Library: Modern, Newer, Beautiful, Abandoned

EDIT: I meant to include older and historic in the thread title.



Searching for photos for the Derelict Anything thread led to me to images of libraries that are spectacular & beautiful, and sadly abandoned.

None of the photos I'm going to be posting were taken by me. I'll try to include any information, attribution, etc, but many times that info is missing or incomplete, especially when I use Bing on my phone.

I look forward to seeing your selections (that's a hint, JIC you missed it )!

 

In the images I love the contrast between the grand libraries where books are preserved and the abandoned ones where they were left to decay. It appeals to me as an avid reader, and as a pseudo book collector.

They also remind me of the days when of literacy was rare, scribes were greatly respected, and knowledge was controlled by those in power. Much like in Umberto Ecco's The Name of the Rose.
