Crappy Food

Talk to me about crappy food.
What are those foods that you feel horribly guilty for eating, for whatever reason (and tell us that reason). Then tell us why you eat them anyway.

So... I have a nut allergy. But back before it hit, I was a sucker for Snickers bars. I would pick them up by the king pack at the grocery store and eat one for a snack almost every day. Sometimes several times a day. Heck, there were days when it was nearly the only thing I ate. And I was silly thin - so it's not like that candy bar did anything to my weight. It just gave me a punch of energy and protein when I needed it.

So, now my guilty pleasure is Dunkin Donuts breakfast bagels. Egg and Cheese on Sesame is my thing. Toasted. (Yes, I'm sure I don't want any meat, thanks). Oh, it is soooo good. It fills me up and keeps me going all day. If I cut it in half it can be both breakfast and lunch. There's something exceptionally sinful about all of that ooey gooey melted American cheese.

    Speaking of melted cheese...

Don't even get me started on Rotel. It's this wacky thing that I was introduced to at a party when I first moved to Texas... some sort of salsa-type thing mixed with Velveta. That dip. Oh. My. Goodness. It is absolutely addicting. I can just sit there eating it forever. Especially if I have lightly blanched broccoli or cauliflower with it. Mmmmmmm. Ro*Tel® Famous Queso Dip

Tell me about your favorite crappy foods. What do you absolutely adore? And why the heck does it seem so delightfully sinful to indulge in these treats?

CHOCOLATE ....... I don't eat it much, maybe once a month or so, it makes me feel fatter. I love it though.

honestly, when I was a kid my mom used to make German chocolate cakes about once a month and I can remember eating most of it every time. I relate that to the start of getting fat. that's kinda on a personal level......

my wife makes this sausage dip. its sausage, rotel and cream cheese. its fucking good. but the issue I have is when she makes it I can eat it for hours and hours, its that good. problem with that is she has a tendency to make it at 8 oclock at night. so you can see where that's going.

I ate 2/3 of a bag of generic Cool Ranch tortilla chips.
Why? Because it looked good, and it was inexpensive. Will I do it again? Probably, not anytime soon. I'm already feeling heartburn.
I do sit here wondering why I did this to myself.

I adore fast food, but as a rule I only partake of it usually two or three times a year. I used to have some friends who had very sensitive stomachs when it came to White Castle burgers, though. The two of them would go get some "sliders", and both of them would be sick the rest of the night.

When something like this happens to me, I generally avoid the scene of the crime to prevent further mishaps; my companions however, never learned their lesson and would repeatedly abuse their digestive systems:

(Not making that up, either. I myself can handle about four "sliders")

    They are!
Isn't that one of the classic definitions of insanity? Keeping on doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

I'm lucky (or is it unlucky) to have a cast iron stomach. There are things I don't like, but the only thing that upsets my stomach is a strong dose of cinnamon. Like cinnamon flavored coffee or cinnamon liquor. A cinnamon roll or piece of apple pie doesn't bother me though.

Slightly off-topic, but whenever you put those two together, you would think insanity was contagious. We're talking loads of convoluted schemes and awful decisions. If they were apart, one was almost class valedictorian material, and the other, while occasionally slow on the uptake, would definitely be solid on a concept provided he had the "Aha!" moment to bring it to light.

Otherwise, this is a typical day hanging out with those two:

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

White Castle .......the original belly bombs from back when I was a kid.
We grew up in the suburbs but still had family in the Bronx. We hit White Castle every trip down there without fail.
And without fail there was a line for the bathrooms at home that night......
I haven’t had White Castle in decades.
    Are they still as good?

Haven't had one in a few years; my family simply isn't in the habit of going there, and I don't go on my own. Chalk it up to McDonald's having a better marketing scheme.

There IS a White Castle less than 5 minutes from my house, but again, there's a McDonald's even closer. (shrugs)

    of course they are!

For me it's Taco Bell and Jack in the Box.

Both of them are favorites of mine since I was a kid. That's for fast food.

    For home made comfort food?

Nothing beats Spam and garlic fried rice. It's a staple for all Filipinos.

Halloween candy was rough last night. My roommate and I both bought about 3 bags of candy.. and had ONE trick-or-treater. One. Soooo I indulged a little. And today I regret that. My poor belly..

I love diner food. My city is fortunate to have about a dozen (that I've tried so far) place that could be called "diners." Most open early and close after lunch, about 2:00-2:30pm. Some have longer hours and at least one open 24hrs. One is also a pie shop with really good pies, about 20 different flavors usually on offer. I don't know if this would be considered "crappy" food . I like to call it comfort food.

Bacon and eggs. Hashbrowns. Grits. Home fries. Omelets. Hot beef sandwiches. Meatloaf.

Reubens and pork tenderloin sandwiches. Hot dogs, brats, footlongs, chilidogs, burgers, chili con carne, frito pie (that's Fritos drenched in chili topped with cheese and onions.)

Pancakes, waffles (Belgian and others) French toast, huuuuuge cinnamon rolls, either sticky w/pecans or with thick white frosting. Biscuits & gravy.

Good coffee, not burnt Starbucks roast.

All I can say is indulge

    Enjoy, there are no rules.
Just don't do it too much...it adds up on the health.

But I do what I want for the most part.
Then again I eat good quality food too with relish. (and too much of that...adds up too)

My crappy food du jour was Cheddar Pringles :D
