Trump has, rightfully or wrongly, stepped in to help three soldiers accused of crimes.

Donald Trump pardons three soldiers in war crimes cases | Daily Mail Online

Navy officials have decided to review Eddie Gallagher's status as a SEAL, with the seemingly clear intent of removing him from the SEAL unit, and Trump has vowed to block the attempt should it happen. Judging from what I've read, and keeping in mind I've never served in the military (and neither has Trump)*, it's sounds like the military acquitted Gallagher of the serious charges in order to avoid any further embarrassment, rather than him being innocent. Since they can't bounce him permanently, it makes sense they should demote him as far down as possible, something he deserves IMO.

One question for which I haven't been able to find an answer is: How much say does Trump have over what actions the Navy takes? Yes, Trump is the Commander-In-Chief, but does that mean he can counter any and all military decisions?

Donald Trump says he will block military from removing Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher

Trump also went after the military attorneys. This move can only be explained as vindictiveness by Trump.

Trump orders military prosecutors stripped of medals for murder prosecution of NAVY Seal Edward Gallagher

I don't know if Trump is taking his chickenhawk guilt too far, or truly believes the soldiers should have free reign with little accountability, or if he is just being a contrarian. It's probably a combination of all three.

    * Trump claimed bone spurs in his heels to get a medical deferment; my understanding is this claim was accepted with no questions. TBF the draft was a huge bureaucracy, this might have been common as long as 'the paperwork was in order.' Trump was very active in physically demanding sports while in college.
The draft ended three years, and the Vietnam War ended two years, before I turned 17.

A good article explaining the pardons and how Trump was influenced, from The Washington Post.

Is Trump really such a common thinker that a media personality holds that much sway over how he sees events? So impulsive that he can't see the big picture past his knee-jerk reactions? So stubborn he won't change his mind even if he does delay taking action?

I worry more that it is that he thinks that anyone should be able to shoot a Muslim or dark skin person on 5th Ave and not get punished.

Uhh...y’know it’s not good when a TV channel is putting on a show called,
    “All The President’s Lies”

And literally goes through all the lies

AND the sad part, we know it’s not long enough in time

I don't know how the court will rule on this one, even if it were a fair and impartial one, I can see both sides making valid arguments.

I wouldn't have a problem with any Presidential candidate needing to release foreign investments, revenue, and business ties however. The tax return might be seen as being like a medical record and they don't want people to cheat or not report in order to dodge the media questions that might come up.

    Opinion | Impeach Donald Trump

When the New York Times Editorial Board writes an opinion...recommending you should be impeached...
    You're NOT doing well.

IF you haven't figured that out already.
