I would think it is more likely to have escaped due to an accident, or just a mistake during decontamination.

I do wonder about the incubation period. Although I wonder why they already moved the stay at home date back to April 30th if it was a 14 day incubation period. And who knows how long you are still infectious after you recover from the virus. People in China are still testing positive after they tested negative. (It seems like this might be where the 37 day number came from)
Coronavirus Can Live In Patients For Up To 37 Days

I had heard 27 days was the outlier case, but studies have shown the average incubation period is 5 days (or so they say). But it would make sense with the graphs that Ohio is using and they are predicting a spike in April, when we should be out of the woods if everyone has been staying home and events have been canceled. Either the peak of 40,000 new cases should have happened later on in April, or they know something they are telling us about the 5000-6000 cases a day they keep saying during the press conferences as being good in the middle of April. If we are at ~50 new cases a day with the current stay at home orders, why would that number go up by 100x times in the next two weeks? Unless we were all infected before March 12th before things got clamped down, I don't understand where these thousands of infections will come from.

    chart2.jpeg

My prediction, and I bet everyone hopes that I'm right, is that it will be a flat line at this scale for new cases each day. It might go up a little, and even spike if faster and more common testing happens. And then it will go down before going away until they open things back up. The numbers might go up if a grocery store or food worker gets sick and transmits it to lots of people though.

I can confirm from my sources that the incubation period IS 37 days.
I have suspected this for some time...thank you for the link.

And agreed, escape or mistake seems the most logical reason, IF it came from a human facility like the lab.
(again, there's needs to be more transparency from China and scientists having direct studies to find out what really happened)
However, that's not the real issue, it's saving lives.
This is like when it takes months to confirm how a fire started...first get the fire under control, do the investigation later.
For example, they only just got PG&E to admit liability in the big California fires of last year.
(you think it's going to be easier getting the China govt to admit??? No, they're blaming other nations right now)

The key is to put the TRUTH out
    ACT, save lives
    Stay inside
    Play it smart
Sanitize & clean (just like that OCD friend you know)
    Prepare but do NOT hoard.

    Keep calm
    Play nice with each other.
    Have patience with others
    De-stress
Walk away and put down the media sometimes.
Take time to gather your thoughts.

And have those VERY important "talks" with each other...about plans & desires - do NOT wait. (you may not get the time, they may not be capable or available)
    Contingency plans.
Be very rational, calm and cool about these conversations, they may provoke emotion - however, they are VERY necessary.

    Be safe
    Be well

These are strange times...but this doesn't mean we need to add to the strange.
    We're human
    And we can succeed.

Had to go into work today. The firewall decided to crap its pants. Had to use the ol' paperclip jammed into the hard reset port to finally get it to work.

The only good thing was seeing one of the fuck crushes and no traffic.

Guess I'll have to reset my 14/37 day clock again.

We don't understand why the Detroit area is such a COVID19 hot spot. Michigan is ranked 4th among states in number of cases.

None of the explanations offered in the media make any sense. Yeah, Detroit has poverty, but so does every other city. Yeah, we have an international airport, but that is hardly unusual.

I did notice a "heat map" of the locations of cell phones that were on the Florida coast for spring break: a whole lot of them were in Michigan. Maybe that's the reason.

I had really awful viral gastroenteritis in February. While I was sick, I ordered a forehead thermometer from Amazon. By the time it arrived, I was better, but it turned out to be fortunate timing. Thermometers aren't readily available any more.

So I started checking my temperature daily. In mid-March, though I felt fine, I had a low-grade fever for a couple days. No other symptoms. By this Friday (4/3), it will be 14 days of normal body temperature.

My office is running on a skeleton crew, essentially one person at a time per division (total of three people), on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I have become very, very familiar with Zoom video conferencing.

I have made progress on some long-deferred projects, but energy and motivation are limited.

Those of you who have partners to share your quarantine, count your blessings!

China Concealed Extent of Virus Outbreak, U.S. Intelligence Says — Bloomberg

Damn, right again. Those SOBs, no wonder we underestimated it.
Now find out about that damn lab.

No excuse for our own incompetence and negligence
But it certainly would have helped.

Transparency and honesty is the only way to deal with this.
No denial, no spinning, no rationalizations
    Brutal truth

    Then friggin’ ACT.

Gawd forbid we piss off China and risk US business interests. Can't have US companies losing those low manufacturing costs and high profits. No, no, can't have that.

Sarcasm aside, we need to play nice JIC the Chinese develop a vaccine and/or cure first, that we hope they'll share.

If this covid19 does massively change how the world does business, making many companies restart nearly from scratch, that would be a good time for everyone to tell China to fuck off. Of course that will never happen.

I'm glad to see the politicians taking action to help businesses and working folks during this crisis.

But I'm getting really tired of seeing & hearing Shyster Trump and the Republican Puppets patting themselves on the back.
