Are gun owners, active owners that is, contrarians by nature?

    The reason I ask...

My wife & I were out buying a gift for one of her dedicated co-workers, and decided to shop for some ammo while out.

There weren't many people in the firearms area at Academy. Which isn't surprising since their ammo selection still sucks (wasn't close to good pre-covid19).

There were maybe 30 people at Carter's Country. My wife & I, and maybe two other customers, were wearing masks. None of the eight or so employees were. And some people clearly don't care about social distancing.

We stopped at the range, & gun store, we go to, and wore our masks. None of the five employees wore masks, and only one of the 15 or so customers.

We did manage to pick up some ammo, but not enough of all of the calibers needed.

    It’s not a contrarian thing
It’s likely us vs them thing
    Tribal

“They” say do this, we’ll do that “because”

So because the opposition say you need to social distance
But our leadership says “freedom” and it’s not needed
They don’t wear masks and don’t social distance as much, etc.

    Yankees vs Red Sox
    Yankees vs South
    Red vs Blue
    Biden vs Trump
    Etc and so on...

Just be happy you’re doing what’s good for you.
    Unfortunately, can’t control other people
Whether they follow advisories or not.

It’s not a “gun owner” thing
There’s many gun owners wearing masks and social distancing, etc
It just that they likely don’t stand out...nor do they want to.

Only those that are challenging the rules they don’t like, stand out and shout out.
There’s always the chance for peer pressure too and if store managers are opposed to it also.

Uh...doesn't the first part of your post define being contrary?

Definitely some Us vs Them attitude. Defiance.

Yeah, but I was sayin it’s not all gun owners.

    And it’s about being rebellious
More about supporting a culture worldview

But I guess, same diff. Semantics.

    Whatever, the virus doesn’t care
    There will be consequences

What they’re not getting, it’s not about people trying to tell them what to do, control them, remove freedoms...
But it’s simply keeping them safe...and others safe.

    I’ve gotten tired of explaining
If they wanna get messed up, let them.

The key is staying away from them
    Keeping yourself safe

Kinda like staying away on the road from the obvious drunk driver swerving all over.

    Defensive driving
That’s what it’s all about now
Putting the odds in your favor.

    Or vice versa
Mam, please remove yourself from your astride position

Do you have your ID? Does he live here?
Do you have mail as proof?

Sir, please cloth yourself and put your weapon away.

Excuse me, these are our handcuffs, miss.

Ma'am, please stop groping my penis. Seriously, I really am a cop, and I'm writing you a citation for violating the copulation regulations.

Your Honor, I would like to remind the court there are no official guidelines for establishing intent of voluntary copulation. My undercover officers had to make judgement calls on how far to go.

Everybody, listen up for a minute. Most of us know each other, but I see a few new faces. I know this is a pain, but before we start mingling and pairing off, I'm going to need to see your STD and Covid-19 test results.

is it just me or does it seem like people (in general) are starting to be lax about the whole thing?

i saw where the folks that had the party at the lake of the ozarks in missouri, the majority ended up testing positive for the virus?

It seems like people feel that it is like STD's, that the risk is worth taking. 0.5% of the country testing positive isn't enough of a problem for them to change their lives. It is different in some communities like mine where it is 0.05% that have tested positive.

Now, I wish there was a real plan and leadership on dealing with eliminating the virus. But, a lot of people wanted to just go for herd immunity and didn't care about the damage or lives lost. They brought up, "well I went to Wal-Mart or the grocery store and didn't get sick", but also the harsh restrictions that turned out to be unnecessary. There was a lack of protective gear for paramedics and medical staff that it turns out the police had, and there was no plan to shutdown everything for X number of days. A lot of the "essential workers" weren't essential and grocery stores should have gone to a drive thru model for basics for the first month.

This is the USA total case trend line. More testing was done later on, but the line didn't change much from different tactics. Some states are improving from the worst of it, but other states are increasing in numbers.

The world number of cases looks pretty similar.

I know 1 person tested positive, and it is going to be a good human test case to see how risky outdoor events and parties are. But I haven't heard if more of them have contracted the virus and if they spread it to others who weren't there.

I also worry about the protests. Now, most of them are wearing masks, but if it can be transmitted outside, the case load will go back up again in the big cities.

our mayor made the comment on Saturday that all the people that were protesting on Friday night should get a covid-19 test.

People will be lax until there’s spikes of death again
Many have to learn the hard way...

I just donated blood yesterday and the information packet said that they had no known transmissions via blood. I'm not even sure they are testing the blood for the virus.

I am kind of disappointed in the global scientific/medical researcher community for being so slow on this. This kind of stuff should have been known months ago. It shouldn't be hard to look at the blood of an infected person under a good microscope and say, yes there is virus there or no there isn't.
