Nice! As you can see in the OP of this thread, I have the same model gun. It's a lot of fun.

    Cool!

I notice you have a Ruger 10/22. I rarely make impulse purchases, but I did buy a 10/22 in VG+ condition at a local pawn shop. Loading the one 10 round factory magazine is the only reason I haven't put a serious dent in my .22 ammo stash :p.

Yeah, I bought a bunch of 25 round mags for mine, maybe 5-6? They were super cheap back when I bought them. I can load those whenever I feel like it, then have the ability to shoot for a long while without reloading.

Doesn't seem quite as authentic with that scope. I do have my mom's old ruger 44 carbine, with a tubular magazine. Problem is, it was designed for solid point, at least 240 grain. Even with 240 grain hollowpoints, still hangs up with failure to feed.

Nice older Ruger to have. Jacketed soft point ammo that might feed, and expand in theory at least.

I've yet to find any .44 special to try through the Big Boy. It's no big deal, but I would like to know how the rifle handles it.

A two pack of the 25 rounders is reasonably priced compared to buying a single, but I don't currently do enough rifle shooting to need two.

With the ammo shortage I'm having to limit my range visits and how many guns (hand mostly) I take.

An Academy store about eight miles away (living in a large city has its plusses....and minuses) had two different types of bulk .22 ammo in stock. I scored two 550 round bricks, would've bought a third, but I wasn't exactly low on .22.

Chris, I don't suppose they any 9mm and/or .45 ACP in bulk? If so, do they ship interstate? (Feeding full-auto firearms is EXPENSIVE!) ;)

No bulk, at least not in serious bulk.

9mm, .45acp, & .380 is rare, and usually in 50 round boxes. The closest to bulk I've seen was 7.62x39 steel case in 200 round boxes, and that was two weeks ago. All of the above was Monarch ammo.

Too bad. We (my wife and I) used to buy 9mm/.45 ACP/ .357 Mag./30-06 by the 500 or 1,000 round cases at the gun shop held twice a year by our local club. That was up until about a year ago. Now, I'm lucky if I can grab 1-2 50 round boxes! :(

I wonder about some of the ammo hoarders. My wife and I own four 9mm semi-auto pistols, and it's easy to go through a lot of ammo in one range visit. With some discipline, specific shooting and limited rounds, I manage our ammo supply. We don't need 5K practice rounds and 2K defense rounds (I'm using hyperbole, but those numbers might sound right to someone else).

The problem with hoarding is those people add to an existing overstock which leaves little or nothing for the people who need it.

Think of toilet papers hoarders. Obviously TP is very different from ammo, but having 10x, or 20x, the amount you would realistically need even in a worse case scenario means others are being shorted.

But yes, folks have the right to buy what they want, and stockpile it. What makes sense to Apocalypse Al might not make sense Normal Ned.

I think the Wal-Marts in our area dropped ammo (they used fear of rioting as the excuse). They kept it under lock-and-key. Having to find a Wally employee who would actually put some effort into finding another Wally employee who might actually be able to unlock the display was a PITA.

I hope that Wally ammo shopping is different in your area.

At Academy I used to help myself, but it was wise to make sure the box was full, with the correct ammo. Now most local Academy stores keep ammo behind the counter in customer service, a few will also put some ammo on the shelves in the hunting/firearms section. One employee, who has been into firearms for several decades, said heated arguments lead their store to move the ammo to CS. A couple of days ago I was a bit shocked to find the .22 ammo actually on the ammo shelf.

Our problem is that our guns have "bigger appetites". We have a total of six 9mm firearms, but two of them are submachine guns, so two Berettas, one Glock, one Sig, one HK MP5, and one Lanchester Mk II. We own in excess of 50 firearms, about half of which are handguns/revolvers (I haven't taken a recent inventory.) So, it all adds up as far as ammo consumption goes. Needless to say, we haven't been to the range for a long time, lest our dwindling ammo supply dries up completely!

My wife pointed out to me that we actually have EIGHT firearms chambered in 9mm. I omitted her Uzi and our Ruger PC (breakdown) Carbine from the previous list.
