Interesting that you hate bodybuilders. A lot of bodybuilders have actually fallen into the stoic pop psychobabble that most of your posts are. The idea that you are completely independent and a free thinker that is in charge of your own destiny. That you forge your own path where others fear to tread. Unfortunately a lot of people fall into the trap thinking that this is somehow conservative in nature. For example, the first bodybuilder, Mike Mentzer, went down that path. I mentioned he was a bit of a loon. In his case, he was mentored by Arthur Jones, developer of Nautilus equipment. Their training style was brief high intensity training, as opposed to the style of the time, long duration volume training. Mentzer classified himself as an objectivist, and was a big follower of Ayn Rand. So there is a lot of commonality with what you post and what a lot of bodybuilders delude themselves into believing. On the other hand, you have Arnold Schwarzenegger, who many would argue is completely self made. Poor, unknown, weird name. Became the most popular bodybuilder in the world, then conquered movies, then became the Governator of California. But Atnold himself has stated that he succeeded because of his great friend network, the people that helped him along the way. His plane ticket to America was from a sponsor. He slept on new friends couches til he could get his own apartment. Friends gave him plates and silverware. His first Thanksgiving dinner people helped out with. Without others support he states he would not have made it. Going to finish with a quote from the most famous physicist in the world, Isaac Newton. Multiple laws and theories attributed to him. Though there is always debate about who developed Calculus first, him or William Gottfried Leibniz. Newton stated, "if I have seen so far, it's only because I stood on the shoulders of giants".

 

Giants are not bodybuilders ! ! !

Schwarzenegger also identified himself as a Raygun conservative. He wasn't the worst right winger, but he took some hard right stances.

Sometimes you can push through a bit, but ultimately depression needs to be treated. Anthony Bourdain. Chester Bennington. Robin Williams. People no one expected to be depressed. Until it ended their lives. From my own experience, I have been very angry. Having imaginary conflicts in my head with other drivers, idiot conservatives wrecking the country, etc. I could waste so much time and energy being unhappy and angry. I knew I needed to get treatment. Went to a psychologist for a couple sessions and laid it all out. He said we could work on the psych trauma, but ultimately needed to work on the root cause, my adhd. Getting restructured out of my old job in November, then starting my new job in January, and feeling all the stress to succeed and pushing myself because I was finally in the role I wanted, exacerbated my stress. Decided to go back on adderall. Bit my doc wanted a stress test. In the meantime, she put me on wellbutrin, which can help manage adhd. I had used it before, but this time was a fucking miracle. On the second day, I started crying to my wife when telling her how so much anger was gone. I would still react negatively, but it would flow away in seconds. I could feel so much relief. Now I'm on that and a low dose of adderall, trying to figure out where I should be. So my point is, real depression you can push through day to day, but it needs to be treated. And it will make things so much easier if you do.
