Your Springfield sounds a lot like my m&p shield. Nice little concealed carry. I like to train on it, but it's not that much fun at the range. I have my beretta 96, but I'm tired of the 40. And range ammo is a lot cheaper in 9mm, and more pleasant to shoot. That cx4 storm looks like fun. I know I'd run a fair amount of ammo through it. Considering I got my pro model 357 just last year and now this, I'm not buying anything soon. Even though this did not come out of pocket. One of the side perks of my job comes from best in us points. Awarded for certain things in the company. They eventually expire, and I didn't want to fritter them away, so I finally spent 60% of them on a cabelas $500 gift card. Got a nice pair of Merrell hiking boots, and the Stoeger. In other news, my state has turned more liberal, which I generally support. More daycare, more school lunch programs, looser drug laws. But I was surprised by the new 3 day waiting period and our magazines are now limited to 15 rounds.

Digression: I'm a firearms enthusiast and a Democrat. I bite my tongue a lot in gun stores, and at the ammo counter in larger sporting goods stores. Texas isn't about to pass anything in the way of stricter gun laws, or anything to help the less fortunate. Our constitutional carry law wasn't supported by even one single LEA, but it was passed easily.

The CX-4 is a blast to shoot, even one 30 round mag could be a financial drain.

My XD-S isn't unpleasant to shoot, my only complaint is the relatively heavy trigger pull. I could track down a trigger kit, just haven't been that bothered.

What I really need to do is get to an outdoors range to shoot some rifles.

The factory case (used) for my CX-4 Storm arrived yesterday. It included early all of the extras -- cleaner, lock, manual, warranty booklet, sight adjustment tool (useful? -- but was missing the mag loading tool. We have two Uplula loaders that work with the mag.

The original sales receipts were in the case. The CX-4 from Sportsman's Warehouse was about $533.00 in April 2005.

I finally sold my Beretta 96 to the Cabelas gun room. Was on perfect condition except for where my tungsten wedding band had scratched the finish on the grip (I'm left handed). So a silver spot was worn through the black finish. Took a little time on a Sunday afternoon, but it was worth it to get it done. I just wasn't shooting 40 anymore, too expensive and too snappy. Though I still have around 90 rounds of Speer gold dot law enforcement ammo that I should have shot through first. Oh well. I also sold 1400 dollars worth of junk silver half dollars earlier in the day. Silver was almost 50 an ounce that day, so was finally time to sell what I had picked up over the years. Between the two, I could get an ar15 with lots of accessories, or an ar10 platform. Do I want cheaper ar15 with cheaper ammo, or more expensive ar10 with ammo that's twice as much, but has a badass factor with more recoil. What is going to be more effective stopping a government Tahoe filled with federal goons in 2028 when a certain pedophile refuses to step down and a civil war breaks out?

It seems I haven't updated in quite a while, or I posted in another weapons thread. The following took place many months back.

My Springfield XD-S 9 has been retired from CC, replaced by a Sig Sauer P365 X Macro. It's a little snappy, & the texturing on the grips is a little rough (tbf I don't have Working Man hands), but 17+1 in a compact 9mm is a plus.

I finally found & bought a Ruger GP100 .357 SS with the 5" barrel. It feels more natural than the 4", & isn't as nose heavy as the 6".

I have some handguns I need to take to a gun show to see what kind of deal I could possibly make.
--Ruger Mark II Target. It's a two tone, SS frame & blued upper, only 2K made for what was then, or now is, Sportsman's (Outdoors) (Warehouse).
--Ruger Single-Six New Model, blue, 4 5/8 barrel. A basic SA .22 revolver.
--Ruger GP100 .357, blue, 4" barrel. This doesn't get taken to the range much any more.
--Springfield XD-S 9. The problems are the single stack design is pretty much obsolete, & these days there are many very affordable double stack compact 9mm pistols on the market. I would prefer to give it to a family member, or a friend in financial need, before taking the wholesale price a gun store would offer.

    Enough babbling from me.

New gun incoming. Made the purchase today, waiting for three day waiting period so I can pick it up on Thursday. All will be revealed then, but I am very excited for show and tell.

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. For show and tell today, I picked up my CMMG Mark 4. I had to wait for the 3 day holding period, but it is now mine. Those model does come with the slightly upgraded hardware of pistol grip and stock that includes a molded in sling quick release. I added the quick release mount up front and the sling. The sight package is the Sig Sauer Romeo and Juliet package. The aft sight is a 3X scope that is on a pivot that allows you to swing it out of the way for close use. The front sight is the red dot. So when you use the scope it incorporates the red dot. Downsides is Colorado's ten round magazine limit for rifles but old magazines are grandfathered in. I could drive 90 miles north to Cheyenne Wyoming and buy a few 30 round magazines. But apparently the sheriff of Weld County (and others in CO) has said he will not enforce certain legislation. So I have been told I can get a magazine kit that requires removing the buttplate, putting in the included spring, and voila! Once I get 3 30 round mags, I should be set. Oh, and tomorrow arrives in the mail the .22 conversion kit. Swap the bolt carrier out, use the included .22 magazine, and save some ammunition budget and downscale for novices and kids. The kit is also made by CMMG, so it should be a good fitment.

I've finally got around to posting my NFA collection. From left to right: HK-21 beltfed, HK G3 battle rifle, Lanchester Mk II, IMI Uzi carbine, HK MP5 w/ Gemtech Raptor suppressor, 2 Spanish Destroyers, both chambered in .45 ACP, and converted to be integrally suppressed by Tom Denall.

Elaborate (for me , my AR is still a barebones AR), but very nice. I'm curious to hear how the .22 conversion works out, because I've seen a lot of mixed results.

I plan to go to the range Sunday. Stuff I have read says copper jacketed do better, also CCI rounds tend to do better. It will foul your barrel, so a few rounds of 223 right after will remove some of the fouling.

    I now have pepper spray.
It seems a substantial step. It is bright pink.

Watch the wind if you ever have to use it. Some people are less affected than others, it is not generally that incapacitating, but it definitely sucks. Be ready to run immediately after using it. In my training, we had to take a faceful with eyes open, then run a gauntlet of kicks, punches, then identify the person holding a blue knife and draw our blue gun on the target.

Omega's advice is spot-on. I had to endure CS gas when I went through USMC basic at MCRD, and then again (high strength, law-enforcement grade pepper spray) when I worked with our local sheriff's department. Both burn like an SOB, but neither is truly incapacitating if you know what to expect. I've heard stories that some career criminals deliberately expose themselves to strong pepper spray to build up a tolerance. I don't know if this is true or not.

I'll include practice using the pepper spray

Using some of it to get used to using it isn't wasting it.

Now if I could get my wife to follow that advice.
