    Keeping the underperforming sharpener for parts might've been a good idea.

    OTOH...IME old school (;)) sharpeners last forever. And I'm a hoarder :confused: :eek:.

    Who cares, really?
    Sometimes I hold on to things for decades until they finally get used. This is one of those "other" times where it just isn't necessary. One more thing to take up space that doesn't work properly but might be useful? Nah, lately I've been throwing things out and it feels cathartic.

    I figure guys my age tend to keel over and die and then the family needs to go through all their stuff and toss it in the trash. I'm saving them the trouble by getting a head start on eliminating all this excess baggage.

    Also like you said, old sharpeners last forever. The one I've got will probably outlast me. :)
