I'm having a GREAT day because...

It's Saturday of a three day weekend! WOOT! WOOT!

 

I rode my bike, and I’m gonna tomorrow, too.

 

I noticed side by side packages of cheese balls and cheese curls today when I went to get lunch... and I couldn't decide in that moment which I liked better.

Right in this very moment, I'm going with curls.

 

Crunchy original Cheetos for me.

 

My three and a half day weekend just began.

 

I took a vacation day, slept until 1:30 P.M. and completed my second week of workouts.

 

i have not slept that late in a long time. my mind or the dogs normally wake me up at 5am ish and i just get up and let my wife sleep.

 

Reason #4,245 to not have a dog.

Also:

 

Finished the work in the back garden and both the wife and I can still walk!

 

Started week 4 of workouts, despite having doubts about my knees after the weekend yard work.

Also got good news on MIL's cancer. It does not appear to be active! Woot! Woot!

 

That in inself is a great day

 

This might be premature, but I may have reversed a co-worker's attempt to get me into trouble and gotten him ousted from my department.

Not fired, mind you, but simply transferred to where he cannot cause any more stress.

I'm cool with this arrangement.

That problematic co-worker?

He just quit today, right after lunch.

No one knows why he waited until after lunch to do it, as it wasn't as if he was getting paid during that time.

Then again, thinking ahead & careful planning was not in his wheelhouse.

As far as I'm concerned though, when they told me he was gone I was like, "Take that news, condense it into a liquid, put it in a syringe and shoot it STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS, BABY!"

 

All things considered, it's been a great summer because my daughter's been doing small jobs around the house that have aided me immensely. She came home from college and made attempts to find summer work, but without much success- but she's been making herself useful by spending time with Grandma and learning minor home maintenance skills.

She's surpassed both of her uncles in this department, and given some time she could potentially be my equal (or better) if I get ample opportunities to show her a few plumbing tricks.

 

The TFP now seems to be accessible anywhere I go now. A bit slow, but I'll take that over "the page failed to load" any day.

 

I'll take the delay in the page loading over no access.

I'll give a shout out to @bobby for posting while this place has tumbleweeds blowing around.

 

My twin daughters are in marching band, third year and juniors. Marching band is actually a competition and a pretty big deal. The state championship is held at the Air Force Academy each year. I just got back from helping get the props set up and taken down today for a regional competition and every time I go to a show I am so impressed with how incredible all these kids are. Probably a thousand kids competing. Some small schools with 50-60 kids. Our school with 157 kids. And they do a new show each year. This year they have around 60 freshmen, which means new music, new steps, and getting all these new kids uo to speed. First show of the season is always "there's a lot of room for improvement". But a month later, everyone sounds awesome. They all improve so quickly. And you know these are good kids across the state. You don't work that hard for this and not have carryover and discipline to other aspects of life. Every time I go, it's emotional. You can watch the performances, watch behind the scenes, and say to yourself "the kids are alright". Our leadership sucks, but these kids are alright. When you are a parent helping with props, it's a different perspective than being in the stands. Stands give you a big overall sound and the ability to see the whole show. To catch the group choreography. When you are on the other side of the track, right on the edge, you can see the kids, see individuals, see them lining up off each other and being in their positions. Makes me teary-eyed just writing this, because I'm so proud of my girls and proud of all the kids out there competing. It really feels good. One last thing. Since our band is so big, when they march out onto the field, all in step, all with their game faces on, in matching uniforms, a four wide column that stretches the width of the field, it's really impressive.
