I used to be a member of an Indiana Jones message board (big surprise, eh?) about a quart of a century ago. The staff loved to punish the herd for the actions of individuals. 5 people out of 700 can't manage their signature profiles properly? Fine, EVERYBODY loses their signature. Ha, ha!

Some members got special treatment (getting promoted to moderator) or were allowed to bend the rules whenever they liked.

One especially sinister aspect is that one member (who was not a staff member) claimed to be friends with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford and also claimed to be an expert in the jacket Ford wore was given an elevated status. Eventually his lies caught up to him and he was exposed as a fraud- the staff worked overtime to "sweep it all under the rug" and delete anything that reflected poorly on the site. The member in question was banned, but it's clear that the staff threw him to the wolves to save their own asses. (If his write-ups on the jacket were forged, then what ELSE is suspect over there?)

I had already left when this brouhaha occurred. The place just stopped being fun.

On a side note, the staff also locked threads which went off topic. Not too worried about that here, though. :D

It's amazing how some "special" former members will (re)join a discussion forum after it has undergone a total restart where everyone supposedly starts at zero & has to completely re-earn any special membership privelages they previously had.

Those "special" member are suddenly granted full privelages after say 15 posts, while most former members have to be active & contribute real content for say 500+ posts before they receive any privelages they used to have.

    Interesting.

I was a moderator for a board some time ago- the only moderator, in fact- and I kept the board clear of spammers on a weekly basis. The admin was seldom there, but the handful of members were usually grateful. Then the admin decided to upgrade the board, and when the new board was unveiled, it turned out I was no longer a mod there. This didn't bother me, but what did get to me was that my posts had to be approved, while everyone else's went through without issues.

I don't really need special treatment, but I would appreciate fair treatment. Being shoved to the side without cause made me leave. Last time I checked, the forum was down. (shrug of supreme indifference.)

To be fair, the admin was juggling a lot of things in the background and likely figured the new forum would be spam-free and take care of itself. I don't think it was malicious; he just forgot.

    Today is the day.

ET polls opened about 20 minutes ago. PT polls will close 9:00pm CT (my time zone).

Locally we should know how the voting went by late tonight, early am tomorrow. Will Harris County remain blue enough to continue to bother the red bloods in Austin?

Can Tallarico upset Ken "Convicted Criminal" Paxton? I hope so.

Two years ago I followed many news reports that predicted a Blue Wave. It never happened. My disappointment was deep, I was in shock for two months.

This time around my optimism is extremely limited, nearly non-existent.

We should have reasonably clear picture by say late Wednesday afternoon (except Alaska, but you can damn near count Alaska as solidly red). IF IF IF we do have a blue shift, it'll interesting to see how Verruckterfuhrer Trump & his DOJ react. I'm guessing they have every single thing they can use to overturn certain election results ready to go.

    It's going to be interesting.
