1. We've had very few donations over the year. I'm going to be short soon as some personal things are keeping me from putting up the money. If you have something small to contribute it's greatly appreciated. Please put your screen name as well so that I can give you credit. Click here: Donations

Someone strapped an Osmo Action 6 camera (like a GoPro) to a rocket:

I understand the rocket only went so high, and the speed coming down didn't result in temperatures as nearly as hot from friction, but a camera that can withstand that sort of punishment is not to be underestimated.

As much fun as this looks, I could easily see myself splatting against the side of a mountain if I tried this.

They would find my frozen? dehydrated? body near the launch site, or on the trail leading down from the launch site.

My buddy Andrew (you've seen and been amazed at his stuff I've shared here before) just finished a highlight reel from his trip to Switzerland last year:

A slit-scan video (this is the same technique Kubrick used for the "Star-gate" sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

(But don't ask me to explain any further; this video just blew my mind.):cool:

EDIT: This video is 13 years old!

Fairly easy; the cameraman has set up the shot on a tripod, and the dancers do their performance most likely on a mark on the floor (probably an "X" made with tape) - each shot has the individual dancer twirling, and the editor cuts to each one in mid-twirl.

It's not perfect; you can see the background shift occasionally, but don't let that sound like I'm bashing the technique. I personally love to see edits that match the energy of the performers onscreen.

This clip brought back memories. My parents loved the movie and played the soundtrack constantly. When I saw the movie on my own years later, I adopted a quote from Roy Scheider's character: "It's showtime, folks."

When I worked at a postproduction facility and had to meet clients for editing sessions, I would use the quote for myself moments before meeting the clients for the first time. Basically, I was putting on my happy face since the introvert in me loved nothing more than working alone and uninterrupted.
