I probably don't know how to fix this so don't get your hopes up, but here's a shot. Unless cakewalk simply can't "preview" as you play, there must be some recording setting somewhere. Just browse the options and pulldown menus for something having to do with recording, previewing, playback, or whatever...Or browse google for a Cakewalk forum (which definitely exist) and ask there. You're sure to find an answer for something like that.
