For the same reason that the Germans I know tend to drive German cars-- liking your country/region of origin. I don't blame them one bit. It's a shame more Americans don't feel the same way, but that wouldn't be politically correct.
A friend of mine is Taiwanese, his family drives nothing but American cars because they hate Japan. So there are some exceptions.
