Yakk, I was playing somewhat of a devil's advocate. I don't need a wide screen tv to make me happy, but if it came down to a choice, I would most defintely take the wide screen over a B/W.
I am happy being with my love, my lady, my better half. That is what matters to me. So does my health and my contentment at my job. Not money.
Sure, I realize that if I had more money I could pay of my debt and eliminate that problem which cause me stress from wondering whether or not a check will bounce. (Coincidentally, the debt is from her ex who screwed her in the divorce and now I am stuck paying it). Or the fact that I had surgery to correct some extremely irritating ear problems, which now are slowly returning. I would be happier if 1) I never had the problem (and this is in no way related to my amount of wealth, 2) had more money to fix it again (as the surgery cost me after insurance around 2 grand and going back again would cost me another two grand I don't have but if I did, that money would solve that problem. SO in essence, the money would not be the deciding factor if I am happy, but could be a catalyst to the ends of solving the problem and thus not be directly related to happiness, rather, not having the problem would be the cause of increased happiness {or less distress})
So I do agree with you. It is how we decide we should feel inside, not what we have on the outside that will ultimately determine our level of happiness, although finding a way to obtain that inner happiness and achieving it is not always an easy task.
