...or I thought it was, I got all the way to the "Creating Your Account" phase but it seems to have died again.
Yeah, it's done. I'm not even going to bother with it anymore. I just hope my key hasn't disappeared without it creating the account.

and yes you can probably change any account information except maybe the account name.
