Home depot has kits ( about 20 dollars ) that has all the parts to replace the entire guts to the toilet, if you have to. Good instructions, it's easy, I've done it a few times and I am by no means a plumber. Also, whille you are there, grab one of those how-to books and look through it. They usually have diagnosis charts.
