The point of being compassionate towards animals specifically avoids the price you've paid for one. A 10 cent goldfish's life and well-being is worth no more than a ten thousand dollar horse's. If you are going to get a pet, you should invest the time and effort in seeing that it lives as healthy and good a life as you can provide.
