I am a big fan of scrapbooking. I find that purchasing a Slab of paper is a great start. They make paper selection a no-brainer, since every page coordinates with every page. You can also make fun cards out of it.

I also really like to make boxes. I take the cardboard from old cereal boxes and cut them up, making them into handy, decorative boxes to be used for wrapping small gifts or personal pencil holders. It's very easy to glue pretty calendar pages, or newspaper clippings to give them a personal touch. On the inside, I like to line them with gathered tissue paper, to mimic a velvet or silk lining.
