Google "DVD ripper" or "DVD to AVI"

I got a freeware one a while back that I used to extract a small clip from a DVD. I can't remember the exact name for the software right now. If I find it I'll post it. I do remember that the UI was really ugly and not very friendly at all.

I think I had to rip the entire DVD to an AVI and then use a video editor (I use Vegas for that) to extract the clip I wanted.
