I was under the impression that Skagens are marked Denmark but aren't actually made in Denmark - I may have gotten incorrect information.
Your comment on the leather wearing out brings me to another point - watches with standard strap lugs are much more flexible in that you can change straps according to your taste or simply to bring a tired-looking watch back to life. Also worth looking at if you buy a watch with a bracelet - if it has standard lugs you could swap it out for a strap later. Looking at your Fossil, it looks like that might be possible actually.
