I want to format and reinstall WinXP, as my system has been giving me all kinds of errors lately. Now I'm not sure if I need my CD key to do this or not. So heres some questions for you geeks out there...

1) Is it possible to just do a recovery, booting from the Recovery CD-ROM I got from the place where I bought the computer from, without having the cd key?

2)If so, will this completely format my harddrive, and reinstall winxp?

Just so we are all on the same page, what i want to do is completely wipe the C:/ drive and reinstall XP(basically trying to make my HD look like it was when I first got my computer). I have never done a format before, so if there is something Im missing, let me know....
