I totally agree with this selection. Of course, our choices are going to be selective, based upon each person's cringe factor, but Louis Malle's masterwork left an indelible imprint on me. The progression of the film just felt like doom approaching. Add to that the fact that it's based on Malle's personal experiences, and it becomes even more cringe-inducing.
I do not relish watching the first half of "Saving Private Ryan". It actually felt like I was being physically pummeled by the scenes.
