Michigan's policy was to give Hispanic and African Americans a points advantage because they contribute to the diversity and well-being of the group. This meant one of two things:
1.) Other minorities (Asian Americans, Arab Americans) do not contribute to diversity and well-being.
or
2.) Michigan assumes that Hispanics and African Americans cannot meet the standards of their institution, while other minorities can.
It's as simple as that. Both options are troubling.
