What about the subaru wrx, none STI model. They started adding luxaries like leather and moon roofs recently. Unlike the STI it has a stereo. It has awd which is nice in all weather, but especially wet conditions. Plenty of power and it doesnt have the ridiculous wing the STI does.
I also recomend the rx-8 because I just got one, but it doesnt have the space your looking for. But its a looker, fun to drive, smooth feeling, light, handles well and did I mention smooth.
Whatever you get I recommend against front wheel drive. Go all wheel or rear wheel drive. You will not regret it.
