It depends. Some companies distinguish between an employee request and an employer request, with only the employer request providing salary adjustment. Read the fine print. You may actually get no adjustment either way, in which case NY is out as far as cost of living, unless you're already making a comfortable living. Can you afford $1500 and up for a one bedroom apartment? $2k on up for a two bedroom apt?
