That's what I was thinking.
The vibrancy of the metaphor has dwindled... the reason Nietzsche said that God was dead is that organized religion did it. I'd agree; and I'd add to it that we're living in very abstract times with the proliferation of all kinds of media, which makes it even harder.
I don't see the difference between this A.I. metaphor and simply having a child... or creating anything. It is all equally Daedalean... though maybe not in a subjective frame of reference.
