Try getting a scratching pad that is just cardboard with catnip - our cats were holy terrors on our furniture till we got them one of them.
Try Bach Rescue Remedy - it's a mild sedative that should diminish any behavior that's caused by anxiety or hyperactivity. Valerian root is another sedative that might help.
