Actually, the deal was that one of the guys in Iron butterfly was three sheets to the wind and trying to get "In the Garden of Eden" across to another guy in the band over the telephone, but the best he could do was Inna Gadda da Vida, so that's what they wrote down, and that's how the song is listed on the album and that's how the lyrics are actually written.
