Are you a Trusty Shellback?

Curious to know, with all the current and former military around, how many of us have been initiated into the order of the trusty shellbacks, and how many are slimy wogs.

Myself, I'm a Golden Shellback, duly initiated aboard USS Kitty Hawk in March '97.

I to am a glorius Golden Shellback inducted in the mid 70's aboard the USS Proteus.

i have no idea what the fuck you're talking about :)

You're a wog. If you're a shellback, you KNOW.

-Mikey

This ex-wingnut is gonna assume that this a "squid" thing?

USS Conseatation C V 64 Westpac 72

Correct!

O.K...I just asked one of my squid friends in another department...suffice to say, it's times like this that I'm glad that I was Air Force. [shakes head]

Golden Shellback and Dragon too!
For crossing both at the same time!

i'm a wog and i dont give a fuck!

I'll cross the equator when I damn well feel like it.

Shellback on U.S.S. Carl Vinson WestPac 96

been there, done that, wore out the t-shirt, but af, not navy...

Slimey wog, though here in Aust that means my parents come from Italy and my last name ends in a vowel...

Isn't that a wogga? I seem to remember hearing that down there...

-Mikey

I crossed both at the same time but was under the impression that is what made a Golden Shellback. Never heard of the Dragon part.

Sailors that have only crossed one are usually just referred to as Shellbacks.

Golden Dragon is crossing the dateline. Shellback is the Equator, so if you cross at 0 and 180, you are a Golden Shellback.

Much more rare is the Emerald Shellback, who crosses at 0 and 0 (Prime Meridian).

-Mikey

Arrrrgggghhhhh, then I be a Golden Shellback fer sure.

We'll try not to lord our exalted status over the rest of you too often.

Ya bunch of polliwogs.

Proud Shellback on USS Kearsarge (LHD3) June 92!!!

Shellback, USS TRIPOLI LPH-10 Westpac '71 on the way to Singapore. What a place.

Been there and done that- several times. Two VP Squadrons and one VW.

I always knew that you were on the side of Liberty and Justice.

Same here. I've done it four times. It's different now. They make it way easy on everyone now. It was pure hell when I first went through (firehoses soaked in salt water for weeks and two month old garbage uhhh...). Of course maybe it was beacuse of the Wog's Rebellion, the night before. Fun times.
