Do you "subscribe" to threads?

When TFP first started up, I opted to subscribe (get email notices) to most of the threads I started up/replied to.

Very shortly I discovered that with a site like TFP (as many users/replies), I am getting lots of email (20+ messages). I have since stopped subscribing to threads, but I still get email notices from threads I started on day one. :)

Do you opt to subscribe to threads, or do you just manually check threads throughout the day?

I subscribe to threads, but I don't receive email notices. When I come to the site, I go to the "user cp" section and my subscriptions are listed.

I didn't know that was possible.

I had thought the two were inseperable? Interesting, I will have to check this out, as checking "User CP" for posts I am interested in would seem to work out well.

FYI -- In the user cp under edit options:

Use 'Email Notification' by default? Select no.

I don't subscribe, i stick my two cents in everywhere :)

ARTelevision 04-24-2003 08:38 AM

I don't subscribe to threads. I visit them all daily :)

JumpinJesus 04-24-2003 08:41 AM

I don't subscribe. I try to visit all the boards, but doing that is like trying to look at all the books in the library in one visit.

onodrim 04-24-2003 08:46 AM

I just come in and check the threads throughout the day. :) The only time I think I subscribed to a thread was for me and Secret's exhibition post. Which, by the way, should be back up in the next few days. :)

I tried the subscription thing, it didn't help me at all. I just search for all new posts and start at the top!

BoCo 04-24-2003 09:12 AM

I subscribe to all of them automatically, but it doesn't always work the way it's suppose to. I only end up getting email notices to about a third of the threads I reply in.

Mr. Ash 04-24-2003 09:13 AM

Nope. Odds are they'd get lost in the 40 pieces of spam I get anyways.

kairaan 04-24-2003 09:16 AM

I subscribe to threads I think/know I'll be getting responses to. And I use the e-mail option.

World's King 04-24-2003 11:22 AM

I'm not keen on getting 1200 emails.

Same here. I try to make sure to check all new threads/posts. So there's really no need to subscribe to any.

I do the same.

Subscriptions provide easy shortcuts getting to all those threads you've commented in. The email notification is nice, but if you subscribe to too many threads at once, then all you get is a flood of emails.

The_Dude 04-24-2003 02:05 PM

nope, i dont want this to show up in my inbox.

btw, i have a special mail rule for tfp mail.

i mean, i open my email in front of people somtimes, and i dont want them to see some of the headings!

ratbastid 04-24-2003 02:14 PM

I only every subscribe by accident.

Sometimes that "receive email" box is checked when I get there and sometimes it's not. Anybody know why that is?

Grondar 04-24-2003 02:54 PM

I have email notification disabled now, but it still seems I am getting emails to threads I recently subscribe to... Odd.. I will do some tests to check this out.

BubblegumTeflon 04-24-2003 03:14 PM

Only a few, if I visit I read everything new anyway.
