The word "Fucking" officially has no meaning

According to the FCC, you can say "fucking" on the air now; see the article No FCC Action Vs. Bono Over Naughty Word. The short version, if you don't want to click,
Quote:

"The word 'f---ing' my be crude and offensive, but, in the context presented here, did not describe sexual or excretory organs or activities," the bureau wrote. "Rather, the performer used the word 'f---ing' as an adjective or expletive to emphasize an exclamation. Indeed, in similar circumstances, we have found that offensive language used as an insult rather than as a description of sexual or excretory activities or organs is not within the scope of the commission's prohibition of indecent program content."

legolas 10-07-2003 10:29 AM

wow, so you can say 'fucking' on tv as long as you don't actually refer to two people fucking? Sweet!

World's King 10-07-2003 10:36 AM

That's fuckin' cool.

dylanmarsh 10-07-2003 10:44 AM

I'm really fucking amazed that fucking, in the non-verb sense, is fucking acceptable. So I could say that girl is fucking amazing so long as I make sure that people know that I'm talking about her looks and not her sexual functions. Fucking awesome!

Halx 10-07-2003 10:53 AM

VICTORY!

Yes!

Fuckin' rad, man!

Finally, I cant wait for the first sports broadcaster to use it. "That was some fucking sweet play!"

Averett 10-07-2003 10:58 AM

I wonder if it will ever really be used though.

I agree, it would be fuckin sweet to see Stu Scott or whoever say "What a fucking amazing catch!"

phukraut 10-07-2003 11:15 AM

the fcc is walking a pretty fine line here.. i mean.. a fuckin' fine line! why not allow it for sexual references also?

iamjero 10-07-2003 11:17 AM

FUCKIN A MAN

Redlemon 10-07-2003 11:21 AM

I searched the FCC page, but couldn't find the relevant quote. I was wondering if they actually used the word "fucking" in their writeup, or if it was "f---ing" as shown in the news quotes. I'll try again tomorrow.

Fuckin rad.

spived2 10-07-2003 12:34 PM

wow I was just having a conversation with a friends today about the very word fuck and all it's different meanings. It really is a great word because you can use it in places you normally wouldnt even put a fucking word and it would sound fuckin fine.

Midnight_Son 10-07-2003 12:44 PM

it's about time......it's nice to see this whole freedom of speech thing is working again.

Reminds me of Malcom X. "A man curses when he doesn't have the words at hand that he wants to use." That's not verbatim, but it's the jist of it.

CSflim 10-07-2003 02:07 PM

Yeay! We've been saying fuck on t.v. for years!

The_Dude 10-07-2003 02:24 PM

anleja 10-07-2003 02:28 PM

Pepsi's new slogan: "Fuck Yeah!"

Xiangsu 10-07-2003 03:41 PM

I could say, "Wow, thats fucking awesome." but that would be a little (insert fucking here) redundant.:)

K-Wise 10-07-2003 04:19 PM

Ya just knew this thread was gonna be littered with fuck.

sixate 10-07-2003 06:08 PM

It's about fucking time! :p
Now I can't wait for people to actually start saying it on a daily basis.

Sledge 10-07-2003 06:13 PM

The Onion has a parody of that this week.

Flesh 10-07-2003 06:27 PM

fuck you

RippedSock1 10-07-2003 06:33 PM

What about "fuck"... without the -'ing'?

laconic1 10-07-2003 07:05 PM

That's fucking sweet! Fuck yea I can't wait for all these fuckers to start saying fuck on tv

tekaweni 10-07-2003 11:26 PM

So, "fucking" is ok, but "fuck" isnt? Fine by me...

bundy 10-07-2003 11:56 PM

we can say FUCK on television after 9.30pm i believe.

i fairly certain that other swearwords like Shit, DIckhead and such are allowed anytime.

and the C word, well, that ones never allowed.

i think that swearing should be allowed on air, so its up to the individual to decide whether they should use such language.

Sleepyjack 10-08-2003 12:00 AM

@bundy
and the C word, well, that ones never allowed.

you mean Collingwood? ;)

anyway, i don't know why describing a sexual act as fucking is so offensive then?

phukraut 10-08-2003 12:38 AM

now it's starting to make sense! up here in canada i have many times seen the following censorship: censor the mother, not the fucker part. i thought that was loony, but the no-sex rule explains it i think.

Fly 10-08-2003 01:56 AM

fuck the fuckin' fuckers

PulpMind 10-08-2003 03:14 AM

I'm going to have to the one dissenting voice here and say: FUCK NO!
Leave Fuck the fuck alone!

remmeber when they decided that "shit" was okay" and remember when SouthPark had the episode dedicated to saying shit as many times as they could? do you remember the moral of the story?

I remember being a young child, and the POWER that cuss words had... my lips trembled and my body quivered if I should try and sputter out a "fuck you" or even "asshole"... the reaction to these words by other people was just as dramatic.. ... now these words fly out of my mouth as quickly as any other noun/verb/pronoun/adjective, and hardly create a stir... even "cunt" is becoming quite blah as it's use changes from harsh degredation to humerous satire of the female flower...

on a side note... you can always say ANYTHING on television if it's in the right context.. ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, WB, UPN, etc will NEVER be in that context though because they're utter shit. PBS on the other hand... if anyone's been watching the special on the history/culture of Blues, then your ears are probably bleeding ;)

/end ramble

dnd 10-08-2003 04:46 AM

this has got to be the record post for the number of times "fucking" or "fuck" has been said....we're breaking a new fucking record dude! fucking awesome!

Darkblack 10-08-2003 05:23 AM

I can see none of you have any fucking kids.

I don't want my fucking kids hearing this fucking shit on the fucking TV.

Thanks for fucking caring, assholes.

(the post was totaly in jest :) )

I've gotta agree with you. I very rarely swear, and when I do, people take notice. When profanity is used too much, it looses power; just like building up a tolerance.

Kush 10-08-2003 08:01 AM

Verbs fucking rock.

IckUber 10-08-2003 10:39 AM

Fuck is an awesome word, so i will say it again.

FUCK.
