I found the Eifel Tower. I hope the pic loads right. It's the first time I've tried to post a pic.

Yeah, when you see it close up it's really big. You get quite the view of paris from the top. The elevator ride to the top level is a little weird because the elevator has floor to ceiling window and it's a pretty good height up to the top.

Jeez, that's kinda creepy how close the shot is. Pic was taken in March of 2002.

It's the Versailles palace! That place is huge! This pic isn't even zoomed in to the street level.

It's Nice that those are in color, but the freakin GlobeXplorer pisses me off..

*I was gonna say try www.terraserver.com but it's GlobeXplorer too... wtf
it used to be a nice free USGS site. LAME*

Edit 2: Turns out TerraServer doesn't have the GlobeXplorer plastered
everywhere, but you can't zoom in very far.

Paradise Lost 09-14-2004 09:21 PM

Anyway, found a nice pic of the Statue of Liberty.

Just in time for the big showdown this weekend!

Yankee Stadium:

Fenway Park:

And, here's the carrier piers at Naval Station Norfolk. From top to bottom:
USS Theodore Roosevelt, USS Enterprise, and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. At the very bottom are an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer, and USS Blue Ridge, an amphibious command ship. My ship, USS George Washington, was deployed at the time of the picture, 01 Dec 2000. Not suprisingly, you don't have access to the three highest zoom levels over this part of Norfolk.

haha nice work! i wasn't sure if they would even have data for that area. I wonder if you can look down at the CIA headquarters in Langly.

09-25-2004 05:56 PM

feelgood, u found them! i also wrote about finding those green circle things in my post for the hoover damn. what the hell r those things...

Pip 09-28-2004 01:00 PM

Irrigated fields more than likely, they're set up with a rotating water sprinkler in the centre so the crop grows in a circle. It's optimal use of water in areas with very little water, like deserts.
(Not sure "irrigated" is the right word here, "artificially watered" maybe?)
