Beginner-- Portrait with pencil

1 Attachment(s)
I've just started drawing. This is the fourth one I've finished.

I would appreciate any comments and/or suggestions.

yellowgowild 09-04-2004 07:14 PM

no picture?

Aladdin Sane 09-04-2004 07:14 PM

Sorry Folks, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get the attachment to work. WTF?

powerclown 09-04-2004 07:26 PM

I think attachments only work in photography.
(?)

skier 09-04-2004 10:28 PM

nope attachments work in artwork too.

Perhaps your picture is too large? Maximum size for attachments i think is 100Kb.
If that's the case, stick it in photoshop and reduce size and/or quality until you can attach it.
It could be that you do not know how to post attachments. First go to edit your first post- below the message area there will be a little "attachment manager". Click on add attachments, and click browse. Look for the file location on your computer and then when you found it double click it/open it. click Upload, then wait for confirmation message. That should be it.

I'll try it. Thanks!

powerclown 09-05-2004 07:56 AM

That is astounding for just your fourth drawing.
Is your last name Picasso, by chance?

dobster 09-05-2004 08:53 AM

Hey! Fantastic!

I like that fact the that it seems like you're drawing from what you see, not necessarily what we know about anatomy. Spot on!

Street Veteran 09-05-2004 09:25 AM

thats amazing, i wish i could draw.

I know nothing about anatomy. I'm 46 years old and I never tried to draw anything until this July. I've never had an art lesson, but my wife has arranged one for me whenever I make the appointment.

Wonderful work. You're a natural! Where did you learn to draw?

I never really tried until this summer. I'm self-taught, you could say.

That's the same thing I was thinking!

Fantastic drawing. I really love pencil sketches. Always have. They seem to have so much character.

It's not me, it's my Dutch brother-in-law. He lives in Beverwijk, which is near Amsterdam.

The pencils are labeled "Kimberly." Honestly, I don't know one pencil from another. What kind do you recommend?

All of the really nice shading that I see comes from aqua sketch heres a link http://www.dickblick.com/zz204/27/pr...ram=0&ig_id=24

krwlz 09-08-2004 05:40 AM

Thats very very good. I was always decent at faces, but could never quite nail it to my satisfaction.

You seem to have nailed it. Good job, you should feel proud.

Aladdin Sane 09-09-2004 05:13 PM

Thanks to everyone for the nice words and encouragement. Thank you.

gump 10-02-2004 02:59 PM

Lewis 10-09-2004 06:56 AM

Pretty brilliant, if I may say! Was that done from life or from a photo?

Aladdin Sane 10-09-2004 12:10 PM

Thanks again to all.

amazing drawing for only your 4th.

can't wait to see more.

StickODynomite 10-10-2004 12:01 PM

You're very talented. I see its natural - considering this is your 4th finished drawing.

I love what you did with the wrinkles and the facial expression.

Fohur2 10-10-2004 12:45 PM

Woah,nice!

exizldelfuego 10-11-2004 01:58 PM

Yes, good job. Keep at it! As for types of pencils, 1B through 6B will be softer lead (or whatver the substance is) with the higher number indicating more soft. And then there're H, 1H, 2H for hard lead. And I think there's an F, too. But I've no idea what that's all about.

Have you ever tried charcoal? You might really like it. It feels good and creamy when applying it to paper.

Aladdin Sane 10-11-2004 04:35 PM

I've never tried charcoal. Maybe I will one day. And thanks for the info about pencils. My wife just bought me a set.

Thanks again to everyone for all the nice words of encouragement.

I'll post another attempt as soon as I finish one.

kelly53 11-06-2004 01:00 PM
