Gauguin/Alcala; my copy of a Gauguin

I did this copy in my high school painting class years ago. This was done with Tempera paints. Tell me what you think?
I like the left side, but the right side is just horrific! hehe

(NOTE: The attached image is my painting, while the embedded image is the actual Gauguin. So you should see the actual Gauguin before you see mine.)

mmmm saturation....

ummm. i don't really have more to say.

I think it's cool. Paint can often be a difficult medium.

hey that's not bad at all! :D I like the warm colors you chose for your reproduction..did you chose them purposely?

how many years have you been painting?

CityOfAngels 10-06-2004 02:14 AM

I haven't painted since high school, truthfully. I had two semesters of paint class; that's about it.

P.S. As for the warm colors, I was just trying to make it as close as possible to the Gauguin. As you can see, I'm not an expert at mixing colors. :p

Really? You've definitely got some potential so you should take up painting again IMO :)

Well thank you, Nancy! :) My dad keeps bugging me about taking up painting again, but truth be told, our apartment is super-small and I don't have much space for anything like paintings and painting supplies. There's not even room to draft an essay, much less paint. I have lots of "when I get out of the apartment" dreams like painting, setting up my drum set, and hooking up with girls who don't have a place to 'hang out' of their own  (I learned long ago not to bring any of my friends, much less my girlfriends, near my dad; but that's a completely different story).

Good to hear that someone urges you to take it up again! I see the problem with your small apartment but can't you just... I dunno put the pictures below your bed or something? :p

Another "when I leave the apartment" dream, as my "bed" is the couch. :suave:
