25th hour - check it out

Hey guys,

I recently saw 25th Hour the recent Spike Lee film starring Ed Norton. I'm usually not a Spike Lee fan but I really enjoyed this one. Good story (the author of the book wrote the screenplay), good acting, good direction; overall it was a top grade film.

If anyone is looking for a good movie to check out then definitely give it some consideration. I wish I would have caught it in theaters.

I appreciate the recommendation. I'm always looking to expand my collection. Thanks!

Just received this after a few good reviews. Will give it a watch over the weekend.
Cheers

Fuck me? Fuck you! Fuck you and this whole city and everyone in it. Fuck the panhandlers, grubbing for money, and smiling at me behind my back. Fuck squeegee men dirtying up the clean windshield of my car. Get a fucking job! Fuck the Sikhs and the Pakistanis bombing down the avenues in decrepit cabs, curry steaming out their pores and stinking up my day. Terrorists in fucking training. Slow the fuck down! Fuck the Chelsea boys with their waxed chests and pumped up biceps. Going down on each other in my parks and on my piers, jingling their dicks on my Channel 35. Fuck the Korean grocers with their pyramids of overpriced fruit and their tulips and roses wrapped in plastic. Ten years in the country, still no speaky English? Fuck the Russians in Brighton Beach. Mobster thugs sitting in cafés, sipping tea in little glasses, sugar cubes between their teeth. Wheelin' and dealin' and schemin'. Go back where you fucking came from! Fuck the black-hatted Chassidim, strolling up and down 47th street in their dirty gabardine with their dandruff. Selling South African apartheid diamonds! Fuck the Wall Street brokers. Self-styled masters of the universe. Michael Douglas, Gordon Gecko wannabe mother fuckers, figuring out new ways to rob hard working people blind. Send those Enron assholes to jail for fucking life! You think Bush and Cheney didn't know about that shit? Give me a fucking break! Tyco! Inclone! Adelphia! Worldcom! Fuck the Puerto Ricans. 20 to a car, swelling up the welfare rolls, worst fuckin' parade in the city. And don't even get me started on the Dom-in-i-cans, because they make the Puerto Ricans look good. Fuck the Bensonhurst Italians with their palmaded hair, their nylon warm-up suits, and their St. Anthony medallions. Swinging their, Jason Giambi, Louisville slugger, baseball bats, trying to audition for the Sopranos. Fuck the Upper East Side wives with their Armani scarves and their fifty-dollar Balducci artichokes. Overfed faces getting pulled and lifted and stretched, all taut and shiny. You're not fooling anybody, sweetheart! Fuck the uptown brothers. They never pass the ball, they don't want to play defense, they take fives steps on every lay-up to the hoop. And then they want to turn around and blame everything on the white man. Slavery ended one hundred and thirty seven years ago. Move the fuck on! Fuck the corrupt cops with their anus violating plungers and their 41 shots, standing behind a blue wall of silence. You betray our trust! Fuck the priests who put their hands down some innocent child's pants. Fuck the church that protects them, delivering us into evil. And while you're at it, fuck JC! He got off easy! A day on the cross, a weekend in hell, and all the hallelujahs of the legioned angels for eternity! Try seven years in fuckin' Otisville, Jay! Fuck Osama Bin Laden, Alqueda, and backward-ass, cave-dwelling, fundamentalist assholes everywhere. On the names of innocent thousands murdered, I pray you spend the rest of eternity with your seventy-two whores roasting in a jet-fueled fire in hell. You towel headed camel jockeys can kiss my royal, Irish ass!

Ugh, the mirror scene was the only part of the movie I didn't like. It just seemed goofy. The rest of the movie was great though.

Yes, I realize I'm probably the only one who thinks this.

hawkeye 02-01-2004 05:30 PM

I saw this last year at a friends house and liked it, but had forgotten 'bout it, thanks for the reminder.

Kostya 02-01-2004 05:32 PM

I thought it was a brilliant film.

Thank you Spike Lee for having the balls to make a movie which didn't patronise the audience or compromise to get a more marketable rating.

Evil Milkman 02-01-2004 07:25 PM

I loved 25th Hour. It was a close-to-life type of film with an amazing capicity for entertainment. Thumbs up!

Vespertine 02-01-2004 09:22 PM

It seems anything Edward Norton does is near golden.

One of my fav. actors for sure.

Jizzosh 02-03-2004 04:16 PM

Big fan of the movie.

Big fan of Edward Norton.

The F*** You speech was incredible.

EbolaVirus 02-03-2004 04:19 PM

That speech in front of the mirror is one of the best scenes in movie history.

thephuse 02-03-2004 04:27 PM

Any Ed Norton movie is worth watching...

Fremen 02-03-2004 09:44 PM

At the end, when he flashes through his possible future, it's one of the saddest scenes in a film in recent times that I can remember.

tommyboy 02-04-2004 08:17 AM

I liked this movie alot. reminds me i think I'll go rent it again.

actionoreos 02-04-2004 10:32 AM

This is definitely one of my fave Ed Norton movies.. a little long but definitely worth it.

miko 02-06-2004 09:39 AM

This movie was incredible.
The first thing i said when walking out of the theater was that this movie should be a required film in High School. It was the hardest hitting most realistic "going to jail" movie ever! Even watching OZ and other movies that show how bad it is once IN jail don't seem to compare to the empty pit in your stomach feel that this movie had. REALLY makes you feel for the guy and thank god that you are not in HIS shoes. Amazing. Seems like it would be a great deterent for kids...give them something to think about.

Vales419 02-06-2004 12:35 PM

I thought it was a fantastic film. Great story and great acting by Ed Norton. The shots that Spike Lee shot of the World Trade Center is a powerful reminder what happened that awful day.

V.

docbungle 02-06-2004 10:17 PM

Shame this movie didn't do better in theaters. There's a reason we're subjected to mindless crap for entertainment: when something real comes out, no one sees it!

This movie was phenomenal. It seemed absolutely real. I walked out of the theater stunned.

MexicanOnABike 02-08-2004 07:25 PM

WHAT THE FUCK'S WRONG WITH YOU PPL? THIS WAS THE CRAPPIEST MOVIE I SAW IN THE LAST 10 YEARS! I COULDNT EVEN WATCH IT TO THE END... now that i got that out, i realy love good movies but this was just terrible... rent it before you buy it or you;ll kick yourself for wasting so much money on crap!
