A shitty one...but at least its not Old Eng. thank god!

The guy that translated this version lived in a cave with his mother/wife (so says the lady who was in charge of the cash register when I bought it)...so you can understand that his point of view is, a little odd, to say the least.

Now I'm reading Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught (GREAT book...for the ladies) I started it about 2 days ago and I'm almost done, but I don't want it to end. :(

JUst finished Reading
Choke and
Invisable Monster.

I am now reading , The Templar Revelations.

I just started reading The Elder Gods by David Eddings. So far my opinion seems to be a little higher than the average reviews but I can see it's going no where fast. I wouldn't have given it a chance if I hadn't enjoyed Eddings' other books.

high_way 01-05-2004 05:42 AM

I started/finished Da Vinci code last night. Someone said earlier in the thread that it was a cheap thriller, and in a way I agree with them. What kept me going was the attention to detail and all the puzzles that I'd try to figure out before the characters do (I mean, APPLE, come ON people...). Anyway, it was a fun afternoon. =)

That was me. I felt just like you do--it was interesting, but was in no way as good as it is made out to be.

Last Man Standing, David Baldacci.

Merely a fast filler book. Im looking forward to getting back into my Tolkien :)

viper11885 01-07-2004 11:01 PM

My english novels for english class :D

It has a bunch of poetry in it. Not my favorite course, but will give it a shot ;)

Thick book though :D

Kadath 01-08-2004 06:40 AM

Splitting time between Star by Star and the Bible. The Old Testament God is a jerk, but he sure loves the Isrealites. The Yuuzhan Vong are just jerks.

sailor 01-13-2004 01:39 PM

Finally getting back to the Tolkien. Reading The Hobbit right now. I think then I will go through the Lord of the Rings again, and then on to the Silmarillion.

gilada 01-13-2004 03:13 PM

"Skin Tight" - Carl Hiassen

Sparhawk 01-20-2004 03:55 AM

I'm having some serious problems getting into Quicksilver, Stephenson's latest. This is the first book of his that I've been able to put down, which is disappointing. I'll try to read some more today...

Tophat665 01-20-2004 06:41 AM

Norman Cantor - Inventing the Middle Ages. It's a set of biographies of great medievalists and capsule assessments of their ideas.

"A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers. I like it so far.

Sho Nuff 01-23-2004 08:24 AM

Karate-Do: My Way of Life by Gichin Funakoshi

It amazing that Ive devoted so much of my life to Shotokan but Im just now reading the founders autobiography

Bobaphat 01-23-2004 09:15 AM

Refiner's Fire by Mark Helprin. If you get the chance, check out "winter's tale" by the same author. great story

God of Thunder 01-23-2004 09:53 AM

Just finishing up "The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass" so that I can read #5, "The Wolves of Calla"

It had been so long since I've read them, I decided to catch up and re-read the entire series. I can't believe how much I had forgotten about the storyline.

I think this is Stephen King's best work!!

FoolThemAll 01-23-2004 11:15 AM

Wolves was great. I consider it his most compelling DT book yet. Previously, I switched between Wastelands and Drawing Of The Three. If you haven't read Insomnia, I recommend that for its DT connection; it's almost like it creates a Dark Tower religion!

Currently: From A Buick 8 - Stephen King (Christmas present)

Heh, I'm reading the exact same book-what do you think about how it's written? It was a little distracting at first...

It's good, much better than "And You Shall Know Our Velocity," his second book.

For me, I'm between books right now, but I've got a huge list of recommendations from the pile of books I've finished. The standouts:

"Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
"Lamb" by Christopher Moore

vapusforever 01-24-2004 07:10 PM

Im reading two books right now, Grendel, which i absolutely love and a biography on Reagan. Lets just say thats not quite as interesting.

djflish 01-25-2004 10:44 AM

Just started The Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams. It's the funniest book I've read in a long time!

ARTelevision 01-25-2004 10:53 AM

"The Mind of the Horse"

R.H. Smythe

It's a solid epitemological and phenomenological study of our equine friends...

Yes I did, and was quite intrigued by the connection.

Kadath 01-26-2004 05:29 AM

Odd Thomas by Koontz. I'm pleased with this book. He's gotten much better since he started out. Though his ideas from book to book are often similar and his lead character generally shows the same sort of characteristics, there are enough distinctions to keep it enjoyable yet familiar. Next on the list, a couple novels by Phillip Dick.

Jonah Hex 01-26-2004 04:16 PM

E=MC˛

the autobiography of the famous equation.

if you ever thought you were to dumb to understand (i did).
read this cracking book and impress those that dont cant or wont.

its not as dry as you would think.

CinnamonGirl 01-26-2004 04:38 PM

I've been struggling through the Gunslinger...I keep picking it up, then putting it back down. Everyone tells me the series is well worth getting through the first book though, so I'll keep at it.

Also reading The House of Sand and Fog...

Kostya 01-26-2004 06:07 PM

War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy...

God I'm a prat...
