League of Male Celebrity Sick F**ks

I have this category of male actors that play those “off” parts that seem to have that certain quality about them that places them in the sick f**ck group. These men have that creepy quality that separates them from your standard villains, mentally unstable individuals, and similar groups. They’re not huge and tough bad asses, they just have that creepy way about them that makes you wonder what diabolical thoughts they have going through their heads. The kind of guys you would feel totally uncomfortable walking behind you at night. All seem to have made a name for themselves because of this certain way about them. Taking nothing away from their abilities as actors; because all are. They are the League of Male Celebrity Sick F**ks.

Ones that come to mind are

Rutger Hauer

John Malkovich

Malcolm Mcdowell

Gary Oldman

Christopher Walken

Who’s missing from this picture?

gnort 01-31-2004 08:19 PM

Hell, Christopher Walken didnt even have a head in Sleepy Hollow and he was one intense guy.

mystmarimatt 01-31-2004 08:34 PM

Gary Oldman is such a good actor...(drools in jealousy)

Stare At The Sun 01-31-2004 08:50 PM

Walken is the scarriest guy ever. If he told me he was going to kill me, and then started dancing(and dancing well, as he is damn good at it) I think i would just have a heart attack and die. Hes so riviting its insane. Definatly a favorite actor of mine. :)

SuperMidget 01-31-2004 10:05 PM

Steve Buscemi.

He was very good in Con Air, and his insane part in Armeggedon. Top notch. He can pull off the insane wacko part very well.

KWSN 01-31-2004 10:13 PM

Samuel L. Jackson. Such a great angry-ass sort-of-wacko in so many films. And Woody Harrelson just for Natural Born Killers, that was one of the perfect wacko parts. Kevin Spacey has been given the wacko treatment numerous times as well. Robin Williams lately too.

RedCometChar 02-01-2004 12:04 AM

Jeffrey Jones (can't quite put my finger on it, but...) and Crispin Glover.:D

Mr.Deflok 02-01-2004 12:36 AM

WILLEM DAFOE, I've dubbed him the monkey-boy. Honestly though, who else could play Jesus, the Green Goblin, Nosferatu and a pathetic villain in Speed 2?

I have a lot of respect for this actor, though it saddens me that he appeared in Speed 2.

Jadey 02-01-2004 12:51 AM

I was gonna say Willem DaFoe too. And Crispin Glover is a good call.

QuasiMojo 02-01-2004 01:10 AM

How 'bout Kevin Bacon?

Donald Sutherland?

KEIFER Sutherland....

Bruce Dern(for all you old heads)

....Michael Douglas...

yeah, you know what I'm talking about.

m0rpheus 02-01-2004 02:15 AM

So many of the above but dont forget Dennis Hopper. You know the bad guy in the good Speed :) and about a gazillion other movies. Plus cant forget when his appearance on 24.

ChickenNinja 02-01-2004 07:25 AM

Christian Slater - Very Bad Things, and Other Films

Sion 02-01-2004 10:41 AM

a lot of the name that are being suggested are actors who have done only one or two films that fit the definition. whereas the League of Extraordinary Sick-Fucks is for those who have made a career of playing these types. so, of all the nominees so far, those with a fighting chance of making the LESF are:

Buscemi
Dafoe
Hopper

some of the others Dern, Glover, Spacey, are marginal candidates. the rest of the names are not even close.

for that remaining slot, I think you have to go with Willem Dafoe. Hopper just doesnt seem dangerous enough to me, and Buscemi hasnt got quite enough nutjbobs on his resume yet.

yeah and in some parts he was completely ANTI-nutjob, take the Big Lebowski.

oh man! i totally agree with willem dafoe! but you cant forget the weird gay detective he played in THE BOONDOCK SAINTS! that scene with him dressed as a woman trying to seduce one of the mafia dudes still haunts me.

Mastershredder 02-01-2004 09:12 PM

A friend of mine just reminded me about a character out of one of my favorite movies The Shawshank Redemption. The actor was Bill Bollenger. I dont remember seeing this guy in any of the other movies he's been in because usually the part is small and the characters not very memorable. Shawshank was an exception though; he played one of the creepiest freaks I've seen, so creepy that I felt earned him a place in the league. He played the part of Elmo Blatch. If you dont know who that is; it's worth watching.

personally my choice for the lifetime achievement award goes to vincent price

CinnamonGirl 02-02-2004 07:19 AM

Kevin Spacey was the first one I thought of when I saw the post. No one's mentioned Ving Rhames yet...then again, I haven't seen most of his films, so maybe he's just psycho in the movies I've seen...

ShaniFaye 02-02-2004 07:29 AM

Walken is my all time favorite, but after seeing Butterfly Effect I think Eric Stoltz is well on his way to joining this list

Ripsaw 02-02-2004 10:54 AM

Tim Roth.

~springrain 02-02-2004 11:05 AM

great post
have to agree most with the original list... adding William DaFoe as well...
good to know i'm not the only one who thinks this way... ;)

SuperMidget 02-02-2004 11:09 AM

Anthony Hopkins

C'mon Hannibal Lecter... He makes a very good "sick f***"

It's true one well performed nutjob does not a sick f**k make, but Spacey's John Doe in Se7en is as chilling as they get. Even Hopkin's Lecter is only in the ballpark of that grade of twisted evil (although exquisitely well played).

nah Ving is pretty soft a lot of the time... ever see his Radio Shack ads? He looks like a teddy bear. The complete anti-Marsellus Wallace

Nikilidstrom 02-02-2004 03:54 PM

I have to go with Rutger Hauer as top of the list. Just the way he can play such a "matter of fact" evil is chilling, like there was nothing else in the world that that character could have been. Both Blade Runner and the Hitcher bring that to mind. Unfortunately he got old, fat, and lame far too early. Walken would be a close second. The most recent actor who has this quality, even though he is getting more mainstream now, is Vincent D'Nofrio. I watch him on Law & Order, and I just can't seperate him from Private Pile or the killer from The Cell. Not to mention The Salton Sea, Men in Black, etc..

Great choice! Never thought of that.

However i'd have to say that the MOST recent at the psycho-ish roles would have to be Robin Williams, in his recent parts such as Death to Smoochy, Insomnia, and One Hour Photo. Quite disturbing performances in those (but hilarious at the same time in Death to Smoochy)

moonstrucksoul 02-02-2004 06:49 PM

Gary Oldman is the best, any body who can go from playng Sid Vicious, to Beethoven, to Dracula, and every other character he has played. ' Romeo is Bleeding' is one of his best flicks

mattevil 02-02-2004 07:01 PM

another would be Rod Steiger (even though he's dead now).

djflish 02-06-2004 02:09 PM

I think Philip Seymour Hoffman definitely has the potential to play a sick fuck

synic213 02-06-2004 04:03 PM

I'm gonna have to go with Anthony Hopkins on this one.
I can't believe he's only got one vote so far.

Jack Elam used to play creepy characters.

Anthony Perkins was a total creepout, even before Psycho.

Bud Cort is creepy.

Peter Lorre was a good creepy part actor.

/is creeped-out now

chickentribs 09-21-2004 02:06 AM

I'll tell you what's creepy - how you are all reading my mind! I went through the thread and every time I came up with somebody original it was right there. Some nice obscure references as well.

I think you have to give credit to DeNiro (Taxi Driver) and Hopper (Blue Velvet) for being sort of the fathers of invention with this genre. I don't think I saw Tim Roth for his character in Rob Roy - um, unsettling to say the least. Also props to Malkovich for his Claus Von Bulow and of course Nicholson for The Shining.

Oh yeah, and that dude in the movie "Misery" who kept breaking James Caan's legs. That guy was scary. ;)

Some good ones in here. I'm a huge Walken fan myself. Fist movie I saw of his was The Dead Zone when I was a kid, and I was hooked. Man is creepy. But it surprises me no one has said Keaten yet. He can be really fucking creepy when he wants to.

mystmarimatt 09-25-2004 12:55 PM

Peter Stormare, who played the creepy 'eye doctor' in Minority Report, so freakin' scary.

...

Which reminds me, also in Minority Report, Max Von Sydow, who played the bad guy. He's always been cast in creepy parts.

[QUOTE=mystmarimatt]Peter Stormare, who played the creepy 'eye doctor' in Minority Report, so freakin' scary.QUOTE]

That is a monster pick. This guy has turned playing sick psycopathic f*cks into a science. He has played deranged characters in so many movies, that to see him try and play a normal character, like in Windtalkers, even that character seems a little "off", because you are just waiting for him to flip out and start eating the guy next to him, or something just as sadisitic. His role in 8MM alone should seal the deal for him.

They only other guy I can think of to fit this category is Patrick Kilpatrick. Some of you are saying "who!?!?!", but trust me, I don't think I have ever seen this guy play anything but wackos in his long career. I originally saw him in the VanDamme crapfest Death Warrant, where he played the Sandman. After that performance, he started popping up in bigger films, usually as the #2 bad guy, the one who did all the main antagonist's dirty work, because he is just that sick. These roles were in movies like Under Siege 2, Last Man Standing, Eraser, etc... Even when he plays characters on the right side of the law, like in Minority Report, he is always the guy who would rather mutilate everybody and let god sort them out, than try to distinguish who is right or wrong. Besides, just look at the dude, he even looks like he belongs in a padded cell.

Christian Bale in American Psycho and The Machinist... he's working on his potential despite Batman

Edward Norton deserves an honorable mention. Primal Fear, American History X...

I don’t know why but I always thought that Ed Harris played an incredibly convincing bad guy. He just has that look; you know the kind that appears so outwardly calm and primp which just leads you to believe he must be a sick fucker.

Notable bad guy roles:

Average_Joe 01-17-2008 09:32 AM

Here are 2 others that I don't think anyone mentioned:

Jeremy Irons

Steve Buscemi

Excellent creepy actors.

ironpham 01-17-2008 10:26 AM

No one thinks Johnny Depp should make the list?

Sweeny Todd was a pretty creepy role. His Willy Wonka scared me too for some reason. Secret Window, etc. etc. And to top it all off, he's crazy in real life too.

THGL 01-17-2008 11:50 AM
