Official Thread for Amazing Race 7 (Spoilers could ensue)
So it started last night. Although it may be too much to ask for another Victoria and Jon, we do seem to have some couples that could work their way that direction.
I was hoping the southern buddies would have lasted a little longer. They seemed like they were going to be fun. And the "they're all against us" mantra of Rob and Amber is going to get old. |
Amazing Race 7 Discussion Thread
Well, a new season of Amazing Race has begun (already!).
All in all was a good episode and the teams look interesting. Initially I was rooting for the POW guy, but I dunno, by the end of the episode I was actually hoping he would be eliminated instead of the hicks who I found a lot more entertaining. I think the two teams of hot chicks will be entertaining as hell :) I also thought that Rob & Amber rawked and will be great fun this year, I hope they do very well. |
I've never watched this show....I wanted to watch this one since Ron is from here and Im a huge survivor fan and Im interested in the Rob and Amber angle. The producer of the show was on a local radio station yesterday talking about how pissed off everybody was Rob and Amber were on it and how everybody really was against them lol
Unfortunately I wasnt where I could watch last nite darn it....I hate missing the first episode of something |
I merged the two threads we started minutes apart :)

Was a great start I thought. Couple of teams may get annoying but isn't that what we hope for? :) Noone's mentioned the spitting llamas...that was funny! Rob and Amber are definitely hated no doubt...think the line has been drawn. Can't wait til next week!
|
I guess I won't understand the whole Rob and Amber thing since I don't care for Survivor but I was really hoping the POW guy and the two bigguns would have made it through. Those two guys were funny as hell and it would have been funny seeing them running through Europe. Oh well can't have everything. I just hope nobody shows their ass like last time.
|
The two brothers are worth keeping an eye on.
They seem to be a train wreck waiting to happen. Looking good so far. |
I too was disappointed that the good 'ol boys got eliminated, they looked like they would have been fun. :(
I guess they are making up for the absence of a gay team last season with 1&1/2 gay teams this season. :icare: And holy macanoliel!! 20Gs for leg first place! |
the recapper on televisionwithoutpity.com seems to think that "life long friends" is code for "hot lesbian action" -- i'm not sure if i buy it.
In my dream version of this show the POW and beauty queen stop talking about being a POW and a beauty queen, all of the teams get a little less lazy and actually make an effort to get on the faster flight, and the gay couple hook up with the gay son in a massive orgy. a girl can dream. |
I'm actually relieved to see the teams not get so worked up about getting on that earlier flight, considering how often the producers mangle their destinations such that the teams all end up together waiting for the place to open. It's simply a waste of energy and leads to conflict when they freak out about stuff like that. Of course, that's what we like to see, but I for one get a little tired of seeing teams sprint somewhere only to realize they did it for nothing.
I like most of the teams this season, the first episode was pretty good, but where was the road block? As far as Rob and Amber, considering that everyone is against them, I think their mantra is more than justified. My least favorite team is the kid and his mother, simply because he annoys me with his envy of Rob and Amber's prior success. Go Rob and Amber! |
Wow, another great season is headed our way. I loved the first two hours. I too, like most of you was saddened to see the two that left. Those guys cracked me up. And the emotion they showed that they were truly friends, I love that!
I'm a big survivor fan, haven't missed an episode since day 1. I'm huge Rob and Amber fans. So I automatically dislike mom and son team. Was that there house they were walking in front of at the beginning of the show talking about "we aren't the Cleaver's." Not sure if they really need the mil. Gay boys are annoying, but make me laugh like crazy. And what's with the chicks that won. I know chicks kiss and hold hands and stuff. But the way they call each other babe makes me think lesbian. Watch close next time, and chat about it here. My favorite though. The brothers. They didn't do well, but I like them a lot and my wife thinks they are hot. I think the chicks in about last place are hot. Well can't wait for next week. And we'll miss you kris and john (last season). No team has been hotter than you 2. |
Shitty the Southern buddies lost that really sucks. I'm hating the mother-son team, thier whole game seems to be based on getting Rob and Amber out of the game. The POW guy will get annoying quick, I wish he had lost the first show.
Seems like another great season can't wait till next week. |
Who was the guy doing the cartwheels and flips in the streets? Was that one of the racers? I was flinching watching that waiting for him to fall on his head. Was pretty cool.
|
No, the guy doing flips was just some guy helping one of the teams out.
|
ah, ok, i thought it mighta been a local.
|
This season's teams seem to be more complex than last, much more diversity in the type of teams. I'm happy to see they went to South America for a change, having only watched last season, it seemed that they were completely avoiding the continent.
|
pretty uneventful episode of AR last night. Rob and Amber are the far superior team. I don't know why everyone assumes that Rob is dumb, he's obviously very bright to win survivor and dominate Amazing Race like he has been doing.
|
One thing that is helping most teams out this season is how many of them speak some spanish (some even fluently). I wonder where they are headed next, once they don't have a common language any more some of these teams might be in trouble.
Was sorry to see the hot chicks get kicked out, but them and the hot boys just kind of suck at this game it seems, just can't get ahead. Rob and Amber never cease to amaze if you ask me. I mean c'mon, "I used to work construction so I know how to stack stuff." And he goes and stacks all 180 or whatever books, when everyone else could only do half that much at a time. Actually kind of a boring episode last night though. I mean really, the challenge was moving books or buying groceries... Sounds more like jobs that pay minimum wage than challenge in a race to win a million dollars. |
Was a slow paced episode. And although I didn't think I would ever say this, but I am starting to root for Rob and Amber. Two great moves in one week:almost being succesful at paying off a guy to hide info and stacking the books for one trip. I am sure they will annoy me soon enough, but for now...
|
I can't believe how much people underrate Rob and Amber. The player hating is funny. I think the dating on and off couple will have a meltdown soon
|
Rob and Amber are hilarious. Paying the security guard to not give information (too bad he pointed out Rob) and paying the bus driver (or not paying, more like). It's like they're trying to mess with the whole contest.
|
Funniest part in last night's episode was when Rob said he and a couple of other teams chipped in on the bribe money for the bus driver, but Rob held his back when he paid him. :p
You gotta hand it to him, the boy is a survivor. ;) |
I missed this episode :( I can understand why people would not want Rob and Amber to win, not like they need the money, but them having more money has nothing to do with how well they make it in this race. They work well together obviously. And no matter how much you dislike Rob, the guy is pretty damn smart imo. Not missing next week!!
|
They won 1 million on survivor. Thats not a huge amount of money after taxes. You certianly couldnt retire on it.
|
I didn't say anything about retiring...I was just saying this is why some of the other players may dislike them.
|
Jesus christ, the other hot chicks are now gone! That sucks!
Rob again displayed that he is the master of this game, what a wicked strategy! Although he was a bit wussy about not eating everything he guaranteed himself a decent checkin slot by talking the other teams into quitting the roadblock. I respect that guy! I was so praying for the mother and son to get eliminated, those girls, although they made a fatal mistake, were good competitors and great eye candy. The gay guys who won seriously annoy me with their cattyness. |
in retrospect, once Rob & Amber had ensured that they would be at least 4 hours behind the current racers, I would not have caved to his suggestion to not eat. I would have leasurely spent up to 3 hrs to consume that wonderful meal and be ahead of the game.
honestly, I wanted to smack that kid one good, for the way he was treating his mother. disgraceful. |
Rob is way more intelligent than people give him credit for. I was impressed by their strategy during the eating challenge. Stealing the girls taxi I also thought was funny, not that it really paid off in anyway... it just shows how he's constantly playing the game. The gay guys are really starting to annoy me. I sort of liked them in the beginning, but now it's getting very old quickly. I was really surprised the guy team took the choice of biking.
|
It did say in the description (and the players see the same description as we hear with even more details) it said that a strong team could finish quickly - faster than the boats.
Those two guys are in great shape and I think they made a sound decision and could have leapfrogged forwards in the game. Its just really bad luck that they got a flat tire :( |
As I said I never watched Survivor but that Rob dude impressed me with that little ploy. He manipulated the others like a bunch of puppets. Every guy on there that didn't finish should be ashamed of themselves. That little skinny girl at the end put that 4 lbs of meat away like it was nothing, and then that little skinny prick even though he was drama queening did the same. There was no reason the other groups of people couldn't have gotten that food down.
I hate though that Utena and his wife got lost from the detour to the pit stop. When I saw what the detour was I was POSITIVE they would come in first because he's a big guy,and there was food involved. After seeing that I really hate again that the biggin's from the first show got eliminated. I would have died laugh at them possibly getting there last one of them wolfing down that barbcoa and jetting out to first 2 hours ahead of everybody else while everybody else was bitching about it being too much to eat. |
First off, I think Rob knew that he wouldn't lose even with the 4 hour loss of time, and on the next stage of the race, they will travel somewhere and probalby have to wait half a day for it to open and they'll all be tied again. That's the one part of the race I am not a fan of. I'd love to see some teams get really far ahead, and then give some cutoff point. Say you are 36 hours behind, you just lose, you don't even get to keep going... That would be a major change in the show, but the whole leaving 4 hours before the next person means nothing when they are always leaving in the middle of the night, and their first stop almost always is closed till morning...
How many of you think you could digest 4 pounds of food in one sitting. That is A LOT! |
I could. It would take me a bit but it wouldn't be a problem. But then again I like to eat and I've polished off a massive porterhouse steak, fries,a salad, and a few glasses of water before. I wasn't feeling too hot for about 16 hours after that but I did it. I figure if such big things were on the line I could put it down. I CERTAINLY could do it after seeing that little waif of a woman do it.

anyone think they could get through the road block from last episode? i couldn't believe they expected all the teams to do that. if it were me, i'd drink a ton of water with each bite so that i'd puke faster.
oh, and i HIGHLY doubt 4 pounds of meat is actually a "traditional Argentine meal". |

yessssssssss... thank god patrick and his mom are gone. i hated watching him talk down to her all the time.
i'm glad rob and amber are doing so well... they're surprisingly one of the least annoying couples to watch. Quote:
|
I actually really like Susan but Patrick is a prick for sure. Who goes into a race expecting to lose. Speaking of expecting to lose, don't expect this team to:
Spoiler: Uchenna and Joyce Agu. Earlier this month, Sportsbook.com announced that it had halted betting on the winner of CBS' "The Amazing Race 7" after detecting a sharp increase in money placed on the two-some. Last year, Bodog.com stopped wagers on "The Amazing Race 6" after someone staked a huge amount on contestants Freddy Holliday and Kendra Bentley so I'd probably consider them to be a fairly safe bet. Spoiler: Guess Amber and Rob get beaten, it wouldn't surprise me if their defeat was a combined effort. |
I read the spoilers above and hope they are wrong, I'd far rather see R&A win, they are awesome. From 5th to first? I love them!
I'm glad that the mother/son are gone, they annoyed the hell outta me, the mom wasnt so bad, but the son was just obnoxious. I thought the part at the beginning where the brothers kept vowing to make no mistakes and immediately missed hte exit and went to far was hillarious. The grandparents are also lucky as hell to be still in the race - they were kinda dumb yesterday with following whatshisface and his wife. That guy (who's name escapes me) is annoying as hell, the way he was ragging on everyone and his wife - I'd love to see the granparents beat him. Too bad though, cause his wife seems nice. Next weeks episode looks pretty good. Blood and car crashes - woot! |
Wow, I didn't realize there was actually betting on these shows for real money. I know they have the whole contract on not telling anyone, but c'mon. Someone knows who won, and somebody probably has spilled the beans.
You think some of the lowliest of production people don't tell someone else for money... |
I liked the fact that in this episode all the teams didn't have a chance to completely bunch up together. Having the second flight four hours after the first one clearly separated the contenders from the pretenders. Hopefully more episodes will be like this, that way teams that win get rewarded for it, while teams that struggle have to really scramble to make up time.
|
Next episode sure looks exciting. A flipped jeep and a massive headwound. That's quality suffering!
|

I posted about that same thing earlier. And my thoughts were with you guys, that they should be able to get big leads. But then I didn't like this ep as much. I think it was because it was a scheduled flight that screwed them up. Because the show said some people would be 5 hours behind, that's what happened.
I'd rather see teams get way behind because they screw up a challenge, or something like that. |
Looking forward to the 2hr episode tomorrow, the preview looked good.
Have you guys heard that next season is going to be "Family" Amazing Race, where the teams have 4 members? Personally I don't know why they'd mess with a good thing.. Could be entertaining though. |
I heard that same thing. Doing the AR with kids? Hell, I can't do the 1 hour drive to the cottage without a 'are we there yet?' before we get to the end of our street,.
I just see it being really annoying :P |

I'm with this AR, all I'll be with the next AR, kids and all.
I'm putting my money on this week being a non-elimination week. Plus I am leaning towards this being the bunching back up week. They tried to do it last week, but I think they knew it would be too obvious. Time for another, leave at 1am but not be able to do task until 10am. |
I agree Bones. I thought it would be last week, but this week will probably be non-elim. Plus today's episode is 2 hours with a bunch of drama, and probably bunching, so they made it all suspenseful only to probably hear at the end "Fortunately, this is a non-elimination leg."
|
Thank god Ray and Deana are out, it wasn't getting hard for me to not say "fuck you" every time Ray opened his damned mouth. Seriously, I hope Deana watches this and then leaves him.
|
Quote:
Otherwise I am so glad the brothers made it, I like those two, they are funny as hell. Nasty looking cut on gretchens forehead, kudo's to them for coming through in a fairly high spot the following day - I hope they are gone soon though! Rob and Amber I am still rooting for! They didnt dominate like they did in previous legs of the race, but they are still going strong. |
Quote:
I'm rooting for the brothers. What was that line? "Spelunking. I just like saying it." They're hilarious. |
Well, by the time R&A wnet by there was two cars there already and a bunch of milling around - noone seemed to be panicking, I guess they could have slowed down but at that point things looked to be under control.
Once i saw another team was at the fast forward I woulda left immediately and not stuck around, I think they made a mistake there. |
Rob is such an ass but I still think he's the best. I also really like the old couple. They have such a great attitude and so much competitive spirit.
I'm sick of the gay guys and I'm also sick of the other teams bitching about R&A. I also really like Uchena and his wife. I was really happy to see Ray and Deena gone. I hope he watched that and saw how poorly he treated and spoke of her. |

Uchenna and Joyce Rob and Amber Brian and Greg Meredith and Gretchen Kelly annoys the hell out of me and Lynn I just want to kick. I've been pulling for Rob and Amber from the beginning, so I hope they continue to do well. |
Quote:
Meredith is OK, Gretchen is just to damn chipper for me, annoys the hell outta me. |
{Rob to Amber, talking about a vehicle they just passed}
"There goes Merideth and whats-his-name..." The boy's smarter than he comes across. ;) [edited for dumbassitude!] |
Quote:
|
i'm not all about the "i hate R&A" thing, but i am pulling for about any other team to win. R&A already have their $1 million.
|
Quote:
Agreed, this is what he said. In defence of them though, Meredith is a seriously odd name for a guy, a couple of teams commented on the name this episode saying meredith is the guy. |
Quote:
Again, I liked Rob & Amber before the last episode. They could have at least slowed, rolled down their window, and asked "Is everything ok?" as the other teams did. To me, the game stopped for a moment and they should have recognized this. Whether or not there is creative editing against R&A doesn't make a difference to me. I try to view the people in shows like "The Amazing Race" as characters, not "real" people. (Mostly because I think that there is heavy, creative editing). So, whether or not they slowed or stopped in reality makes no difference to me, but the characters created by the show did not stop, and I don't approve of that. All of that said, it would be a boring show if I was rooting for every team to win. I enjoy the conflict and anger that R&A create. It makes for good TV. |
I rooted for Rob and Amber in Survivor All Star, I'm rooting for them now. They play the game smarter than anyone (in both shows) and know how to get things done. Plus they are playing up their "celebrity", which is smart (if not entirely fair)
|
I'm wondering if Rob will find a way to get teams to fight against each other. He was very good at saying just the right things to people to stir up confrontations. There was a survivor ep where he got 2 men to argue and he just sat there in the water with a smirk. It was one of my favorite survivor moments.
|
Quote:
|
Well, I guess I'm obligated to root for the "home team", the gay guys from West Hollywood who were described by my roommate as "SO flaming" while first watching the show. ;) But they are definitely annoyingly catty and have an unnatural obsession with beating Rob and Amber. I was most disappointed to see Debbie and Bianca go. I had to respect them after chowing down that 4 pounds of meat, and it HAD to be a blow to Rob's ego for the girls and the gay guys to finish while he didn't even though he "survived" anyway. So I think even though they already got one million on Survivor, I have to say Rob and Amber are my favorite team too for their sheer ability. Ron and Kelly and Uchenna and Joyce have no personality and the other teams are walking stereotypes (not to mention the hillbillies, Barbie girls, and gay son and mother ;)). Anyway I really watch the show for the travel/adventure aspect, not because I think this makes too great of a competition.
|
your post made me think of the pairings. They sure got just about every cliche into the cast:
the super gay couple the macho brothers the amiguously gay hot chicks the other hot chicks the old people that never quit the token black couple the rednecks the dysfunctional couple not bad |
I thought last nights episode was decent. Again R&A kicked ass, they are by far the best team in my opinion. I thought the balance on the head detour was kinda funny, noone could do it except for uchenna and joyce and they kicked ass.
The gay dudes comments that 'they were born to do this challenge' or something was a bit funny. The animals they all saw were just freaking amazing, my god. I'd love to go there. The brothers unfortunately are gone, but they quite frankly deserved to be. Oh well. Cleavage was happening too in a big way with the POW's dudes girlfreind. That was a good thing. |
I liked her cleavage. Nice bonus to the ep. As much as I liked the brothers they deserved to be eliminated last night. Too many big mistakes. I loved their attitudes though and it was great to see one of them almost all the way up the water tower.
|
it was on last night??? damn. I did manage to tape Dr. Who before I went out tho.
So who came in last on the Amazing Race? |
I thought that last night's episode was a bit boring. I did like Joyce & Uchenna kicking ass on the balancing task. They work well together. The gay couple was very supportive of one another as well. The POW couple is melting down. Hopefully, there will be more conflict there.
I also liked the brothers showing up at the end in swimsuits, winter hats, and scarves. It would have been great if they continued to the next leg. (Though someone would have probably given them clothes). |
So long to the Brothers Dim. http://www.forumforfree.com/forums/h...cons/blink.gif I so wanted it to be a non-elimination round, and then have the next destination be Antarctica. http://www.forumforfree.com/forums/h...s/1cc7ea5b.gif
|
Just waiting for Army dude and beauty queen to be kicked.. Least likeable team left IMO.
|
Ya I can't stand those two. At least the psycho guy and his girl were entertaining.
|
*sniff* I was hoping the brothers would last longer, but as said before they did deserve to go.
Hopefully Army dude and Princess have to go. |
Last night was a decent episode again, a real race, teams are nose to nose basically. The army dude and princess aren't annoying me as much as previous weeks, and I like how they are giving rob and amber a good challenge.
Gretchen really really needs to be eliminated, she's been annoying the hell outta me! So, i wonder what the deal with the additional clue is? Is this just an extended leg with Phil making the suprise appearance, or is there a twist on the way? I kinda wish Rob and Amber used the yeild, they woulda been yeilded in a heartbeat by the gay couple. Wow, this round I can't remember anyones name :P |
Quote:
I think it would be hilarious if the oldies took the whole thing because no one ever expects the oldies... |
Gretchen has been on my nerves since day 1. her voice ... aaaggh. anyways, I missed the reason that Amber was looking so upset at the end of the show ( as I had cahgned to another channel during a commercial) What's up with that?
|
C'mon guys, cut Gretchen a little slack, she's got a head wound for heaven's sake.
Quote:
What I don't get is why CBS ran a double episode last week with two seperate legs, but split a single leg up into two parts. |
I was sort of dissapointed with last nights episode (and somewhat this season). This is the Amazing Race. What's so Amazing about looking in tin boxes and bringing people tea. Where is the bungee jumping and skydiving and bobsledding and other real challenges. I just have felt so let down lately with challenges...
I think R & A's yield strategy is appropriate. You only get to use it once, and they didn't need it last night. And although they might not get the opportunity next time, if they can and they need it, it will be better used later in the race. |
Quote:
Excellent point, and I do not disagree with you. I'm just petty and wanted to see Lynn and Alex's face when they got eliminated (assuming last night was an elimination and the competition was so close). |
Too bad this extended leg wasn't last week. Not that the brothers are out, the remaining teams are just not entertaining enough. Oh well, I'll still watch. I really don't care who wins.
But to one of the above poster's, Gretchen has been annoying since even before the head wound. |
Hooray! Hooray! They're gone! I whooped with joy when I saw the old folks come in fourth, not that I want them to win or anything, I hope they are knocked off next, but I'm so glad that lynn and alex are gone.
The competition between Rob & Amber and Ron & Kelly has been fantastic. I'm glad they've managed to stay freinds through this and I hope they continue to seperate business from pleasure as they have been. Kelly's line about not committing to things and the POW line was hillarious, I was having a sip of beer when this came on and it nearly came out my nose. Great stuff. |
Ah, it has to suck to lose a leg of a race because of a shitty cab driver. Lynn and Alex were first out of the road block, and had every reason to not lose the leg, but that's what happens.
I was impressed that they actually went through with the Fast Forward. I've never seen anyone shave their head on the show before (but many chicken out). |
I have to agree with Daval on this...glad Lynn/Alex are history. Gretchen was annoying last night on the elephant. Why the hell did she get on it anyway? I wonder if Joyce realized how close they were to team #2 after shaving her head. That would've sucked going that far and coming in any place other than 1st.
|
Two Castles? who'd have thunk! At least I can find solace in the fact that we wouldn't have that problem here in toronto...
|
I must say, i thought joyce bald looked pretty good. I've never been partial to the look but I thought with those big braids she had her head looked completely massive, she really does have a nice petite head and with her big eyes I think she looked really good.
Kudo's to her for going through with it though. Maybe the rumours are true about those two, and if they are they deserve it in my books. |
I was impressed by Joyce's choice. Because of her choice, they've moved up on my rooting list. And that wasn't much of a fast forward. I doubt they have more than an hour lead. (And I think she looked better after getting rid of the bad weave.)
I'll miss the boys. I enjoyed their ineptitude. And was it me, or did they always seem to have the worst cab driver? Meredith and Gretchen (or so I say Gretchen) get on my nerves. I will be severly disappointed if they make it to the final three. |
The big ol' kick in the nuts was that U&J didn't get a prize for being first, and yet R&A get one every time they coast into first. http://www.forumforfree.com/forums/h...s/th_bitch.gif
|
i was surprised to find myself rooting FOR lynn and alex last episode, but i couldn't help it... gretchen was just so god damn annoying. i'm definitely pulling for R & A and U & J the rest of the way.
i think that the "you got out of the army by being a POW" line has potential to be the "my ox is broken" for this season. i can't wait to hear that entire conversation. hahaha |
Gretchen and Meredith really annoy me. It would be one thing for them to actually be competitive, but they always manage to hang on, usually because the time differences are always wiped out. Arrgh!!
|
Gretchen is about good for nothing. If she isn't wringing her hands and apologizing to Meredith, she's falling down holes.
|
I for one can't believe that they didn't get anything for coming in first. I wonder if they don't always say it, or something like that. Anyways, I actually liked the head after the haircut, that old one needed a makeover, and she got it.
Anyways, thank God the boys are gone. I couldn't handle another word out of them. And like others have said, I think the line that Kelly said about being a quitter and he got out of the military by being a POW, I was so pissed. The guy could have been killed fighting for his country, and his girlfriend calls him a quitter. Think those to might have some issues to work out. I'd send her ass packing right after the show was over. |
Tonight is guaranteed to be a non-elimination. They have one NE leg left and they always go into the final episode with 4 teams (which they have now), so don't expect anyone to be elimintated tonight.
Season Finale next Tuesday? |
I know in the past, the other teams give the bankrupt team some money so they get on their feet but it seems like that's a pretty awful idea in the Final Four. For Ron & Kelly sake, they better hope the other teams don't agree with me.
I think Rob & Amber will finish second in the race. Meredith and & Gretchen always give a vailiant effort but they are in their 60s so I don't expect them to be the runners-up. Ron & Kelly's bickering and lack of dinero will handicap them too much. That means I believe Uchenna and Joyce will win, click here for a spoiler of an explanation why: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showpos...4&postcount=43. |
