Who is today's Wonder Woman?
***Updated with a list of nominees***
I recently saw some episodes of Wonder Woman, Season One on dvd. That really conjured up some childhood memories, not to mention some boyhood fantasies as well! So, that got me thinking. In my opinion, Lynda Carter was perfectly cast as Wonder Woman for the TV series. She's absolutely beautiful! Her blue eyes are mesmerizing! She has a great smile and just gives off this look of sophistication. And talk about a killer body! She's got curves in all the right places! (Though it was accentuated somewhat by her costume). Her beauty is just timeless. Here's my question (or challenge). Which actress would make a good Wonder Woman today? If possible, give some reasons to back up your case. I'll start. I honestly don't think there's anybody today that can replace Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. But, I would give Catherine Zeta Jones honorable mention. She also possesses a timeless beauty and sophistication sans the mesmerizing blue eyes. But to me, she lacks the body to be able to pull off the Wonder Woman costume. What do you think? Btw, Wonder Woman the movie has been announced for 2006. Casting is currently taking place. Many actresses are rumored to be in the running for the lead role of Wonder Woman. http://www.wonderland-site.com/pix/p...nth/pm0006.jpg http://www.wonderland-site.com/pix/p...nth/pm0001.jpg ============================================== Here is the list so far (votes): Catherine Zeta Jones (2) Angelina Jolie (3) Lucy Lawless (1) Charisma Carpenter (1) Jennifer Garner (1) Hilary Swank (1) Charisma Carpenter (1) Courtney Cox (1) Shannon Elizabeth (1) Selma Blair (1) Eliza Dushku (1) Jessica Alba (1) Gabrielle Union (1) Erika Christensen (1) Aria Giovanni (1) Famke Janssen (1) Liv Tyler (1) Anna Paquin (1) Kim Smith (2) Catherine Bell (2) Terry Farrell (1) Carla Gugino (1) |
Some names that might not be too bad in the role though most are too old as Wedon has said he wants a 20 something for the role:
Angelina Jolie Lucy Lawless (too xena, too old) Charisma Carpenter Jennifer Garner Hilary Swank |
I would like to see Angelina in it, but thats just me. ;)
Plus, since she did Tomb Raider, I don't know if they would use her. |
I can see Charisma Carpenter, but not Hilary Swank
|
Hmmm...Charisma Carpenter, you might be on to something there.
I can't see either Garner or Swank playing the part. The bodies are just not there. |
|
some no name person...
just like Debrah Winger was found on WW.... |
This is how it will most likely play out *but* it is fun to speculate on known quantities.
|
What about Courtney Cox? She looks similar to WW. I wouldn't know about her fitness...
|
Ah, Linda Carter. She was my first ever crush
I'd like to see a no-name actress fill her boots but not likely. Angelina Jolie might be a good fit. *pictures it in head* If Shannon Elizabeth were a better actress, she could pull it off. |
Good choices so far. Keep them coming!
The point of this thread is NOT to have a guessing game as to who will land the role in the movie. There are many factors that go into landing the lead role for a movie, like actress' availability, having the right connections, director preferences, etc. So I could care less about who the casting directors will choose for the movie. Let's concentrate more on the original tv series. I want to hear opinions about who YOU think could/should replace Lynda Carter if the tv show was made today. |
None of these would really fill Lynda Carter's shoes, but I was thinking of:
Selma Blair http://www.selma-blair.net/images/wa.../800x600-2.gif http://www.blitzgal.com/scans/Blitz553_SelmaBlair.JPG Eliza Dushku http://www.maximonline.com/girls/eliza_dushku/gm_l3.jpg http://freespace.virgin.net/clive.wa...ke_330x493.jpg Jessica Alba http://www.jojo.id.au/journal/images...ible-woman.jpg They all have the right look, in my book. The personality/acting is another story. |

I'd go with an unknown... I think any actress brought in, would have too much history associated with them... you need someone fresh... |
Gabrielle Union
http://ffmedia.ign.com/filmforce/ima...2thegrave1.jpg I totally accepted her kicking ass in the otherwise crappy "Cradle 2 the Grave." EDIT: or Erika Christensen in 5 years. http://www.erikachristensen.com/proj...core/ps_09.jpg |

Elisha Dushku was on my list but I took her off... She's just a little too butch for the role. |

Heres a site that ads visuals to some of the ladies suggested already.

Now that you've mentioned, she does look kinda too short for the role too. Quote:
http://www.tiscali.nl/images/0/1/Famke.jpg What about Famke Janssen? She was a fesity little thing in Goldeneye but she was alright for Xmen as Jean Grey. |

Maybe the porn remake of Wonderful Women she'll star... |

How bout...Anna Paquin? http://www.123people.net/p/paquin-anna/paquin-anna4.jpg On a humour side, how bout Julie Roberts? |
Kim Smith is relatively unknown (as an actress that is) and she has done some small roles in Catwoman and Van Wilder. Now if she can actually act, I think she may make a decent Wonder Woman. I can picture her in that costume!

I think she may be a bit too short and she looks a bit too girlish IMO. Now Famke Janssen on the other hand... |
Here's my choice, although too many seasons on 'Jag' may have her typecast.

And who ever said that Wonder Woman's "purity" in her quest for justice had to consist of her being sexually nuetered? I mean think about it, her entire existence is based on greek mythology,. And the ancient Greeks were a) not ashamed of the human body, and none to fond of clothing in general, and b) right up there with the Romans when it came to sexual debauchery. |

The problem with Aria is that we associate her with porno while with Angelina, most of us associate her with action flick, sexy roles, etc. It would be kinda werid watching a movie starring a pornstar and you'll be thinking that it'll just be another porn spoof of a major motion picture. |

There's been some good choices so far and some interesting ones to say the least. So far, Jolie is the only one with more than one nomination. Keep 'em coming!

Most name brand actresses are going to have the same problem, which is why, they will have to go with an unknown in the lead. |
Oddly enough, Maleficent kind of looks like Wonder Woman... in my head at least. I vote Mal for wonder woman.

QUOTE] I would agree with both of your choices.... especially Catherine Zeta-Jones..... shes one of the best looking 30+ ladies that I have ever seen. |
Catherine Bell and Carla Gugino immediately came to my mind.
Both out of work, both pretty good actresses in their own right and seem to fit the mold, in my opinion. |
Let's look at the qualities she has to have.
First, she needs to be tall with a killer bod. According to the encyclopedia of the DCU, Wonder Woman is 6 feet tall and weighs 165 lbs, and is generally drawn as being very muscular, but in a feminine way. Obviously, this is unrealistic for a live action film. Terry Ferrel has the height, as does Famke Janssen; I don't really see any woman being "too tall" but many mentioned are clearly too short to be an Amazon. Courtney Cox, Eliza Dushku, for example. She needs to be young, able to play in her 20's. Wonder Woman, Pre-Crisis was in her 50's, but she's immortal, so physically she needs to be at about the age of physical maturity, or in her early 20's. She needs to be athletic. She's a warrior. She needs to able to play innocent. The current Wonder Woman is, I believe, still a virgin; Pre-Crisis she got it on with Steve Trevor and eventually married him and became a goddess. It has to be a relative unknown. Any "name" actess brings baggage to the role. Go with a tall, athletic, young actress for whom this will be her first major role. |

...although I have a soft spot for George Reeves Superman... |
I would like to say Charlize Theron, however with her doing Aeon Flux.....
My requirements would be a good dramatic actress that shows humor in her work, a good body but able to be physical. Lucy Lawless fits the bill but she will forever be typecast as Xena. So it would have to be an actress not known for this type of role. That brings my 3 top choices to be: Neve Campbell (maybe too washed up) Halle Barry (maybe too old) Selma Hayek (maybe too ethnic) |
Quote:
Neve Campbell isn't quite right... IMO Halle Barry has been tarred with Catwoman... Selma Hayek is about as tall as a potted plant. |
Geena Davis
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...eena_Davis.jpg When she's done bein' the President, of course. ;) |
She'd be great playing WW's Mom...
/me thinking of her in Transylvanya 65000. http://cinema.gothic.ru/moviestills/...nia65000_2.jpg |
what about Rachel Weisz?
There is a pretty nice photoshopped pic of her at the site below to boot. http://home.iprimus.com.au/rennyr/WEISZ_ww.jpg |
Lucy Lawless would be my first choice, but I could definately live with Famke Janseen or Terri Farrel as well.
