December 17th - Toronto

I will be in Toronto on the 17th of next month for a consult. The reason I have to be at the city kind of sucks, but if I'm gonna be there anyway...

I'm thinking we could probably arrange a dinner/drinks type of deal or, failing that, brunch. My appointment is at 4:00 in the afternoon and I can't imagine it taking me past 5:00, so any time before or after that is cool, so long as I can get to St. Mike's with enough time to navigate the labyrinth and find the right doctor.

Who's up for it?

fresnelly 11-20-2007 06:51 PM

Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town then.

Rats.

I might be able to make it if it's for dinner. My last exam is that day and is scheduled from 2-5.

I'm fine with dinner. Actually, given that it's a late appointment dinner may be more convenient, although I'm open to either brunch or dinner (or both, assuming there's anyone who's game).

aberkok 11-27-2007 05:51 AM

I'm in. I can help organize too, once we know who can basically make it.

Right. I'm going to PM you with my current phone number.. I still don't really know Toronto, so I'll leave choice of venue and such up to you.

So far as I know it's currently just you, me and Siege. Your lovely wife, should she choose to grace us with her presence, is more than welcome as well and Lucifer is a maybe.

Any other Torontonians up for dinner and drinks? It really should be a fun time; past get-togethers have been most enjoyable.

Baraka_Guru 12-01-2007 10:39 AM

Hey. I might be able to do this.

m0rpheus 12-05-2007 07:00 AM

Working that day so I'm out.

Martian 12-05-2007 09:41 AM

Okay, so aberkok and I are confirmed, Siege, Baraka_Guru and Lucifer are maybes and m0rpheus and fresnelly are unable to attend.

The 17th is now just a little less than two weeks away. Are we agreed on an evening get-together? I'm thinking probably around 7:00, as that gives me time after my consult and Siege time after his last exam; also, aberkok that ought to give us an hour or so to meet up and go over material before-hand.

It's likely that I'll stay over in Toronto until the 18th; it's too much bother trying to get home late in the evening (never thought I'd miss Oshawa, but living there did make this sort of thing a lot simpler). At any rate, if anyone wants to do coffee/brunch on that day that may be a possibility as well.

Any suggestions on where we should go?

aberkok 12-05-2007 10:06 AM

This whole time I thought it was a Sunday. This throws a wrench into it as I normally teach from 4 - 7:30 in Etobicoke. But, I could see you, Martian for piano and/or brunch, then go teach (for 4p.m.) then do the group meet-up (be downtown by about 8... maybe I can move my lesson).

Will think about where to do the group meet-up (if there is a group!)

7:30 was just a suggestion, if that's going to be a problem I see no reason why we can't push it back to 8 or 9. As for meeting before-hand, I will momentarily send you a private message where we can work out the details for that.

Siege 12-06-2007 07:17 PM

crap, there's a chance that i'm out.

one of my friends is leaving for vancouver and there's talk about having a get together to have some dinner with him before he's off on the night of the 17th. i'll try to keep you posted since the date with my other friend is not set in stone.

aberkok 12-11-2007 07:49 PM

So... Torontonians.... I have drawn a line in the sand. Is this meet-up just going to be me and Martian!? Speak or forever hold your piece.

I will soon decide on a venue, but it'll depend on who's showing up.

Baraka_Guru 12-11-2007 07:52 PM

Hey, evening is fine for me. Are we going to listen to some jazz or what? Blues? Ehn?

aberkok 12-11-2007 08:14 PM

I think it'll be just the three of us (Baraka, me and Martian), so a music venue might be a good idea.

Martian 12-11-2007 08:18 PM

Sounds good to me. Again, I'm pretty clueless about the T-dot, so wherever you guys want to go is fine. I just need to be able to find my way there via TTC.

EDIT - Also, it's looking now like I'll probably be in the city from Sunday night on through to Tuesday afternoon. While I won't be doing much on Sunday, that does leave Monday morning available so aberkok if you want to meet up then that'd be fine with me.

Siege 12-12-2007 09:48 AM

17th should be ok for me. but just in case, you guys can pick something and i'll try my best to show up. a night of music sounds fine to me.

Martian 12-16-2007 03:06 PM

Tomorrow morning I will be heading on my merry way. I'm leaving here at 10:00 to arrive in Toronto at 12:30. Do we have a time and a place for our meet yet? This is information I'd like to have before I depart, if possible.

Charlatan 12-16-2007 04:27 PM

Have fun in the snow!

Charlatan 12-16-2007 05:06 PM

You're probably right... I am wishing I was home for Christmas. Especially with all the snow. I have a hankerin' to go tobogganing.

Siege 12-16-2007 05:17 PM

I won't be able to make it tomorrow night guys, sorry.

aberkok 12-17-2007 08:24 AM

Alright... everything is underway (everything meaning me and Martian and Baraka).

Siege I got your message. You will be missed.

Charlatan, you will be missed too, but I'm sure you'll be reveling in your total Snow Miser victory (and it's only December).

Charlatan 12-20-2007 08:57 PM

So how did it go?

Martian 12-21-2007 05:54 PM

A good time was had by all. Or I assume so, anyway. We went to The Rextaurant and saw a 21 man swing orchestra, which was decent. I think it was summed up after we left and I said 'I've heard worse,' followed by aberkok adding 'I've heard better.'

aberkok also met me for lunch and gave me pointers on piano. I walked away with a copy of Hyprovisation, which I haven't actually listened to but am sure I will enjoy as soon as I find the time to devote to sitting down and listening to it properly.

I also now know the super secret tale of the monkey in the space suit. I feel priveleged. If aberkok ever gets famous with this stuff I'll have a little inside tidbit.

A picture, showing me on the left, aberkok in the middle and Baraka_Guru on the right.

Baraka_Guru 12-21-2007 06:43 PM

Yeah, it was fun. It was good to meet you, Martian. Unfortunately, I was a bit tired that night (well, I am in general these days), so I might have seemed a bit aloof. But I understand you were tired as well (for good reason), so maybe you didn't even notice.

Anyway, we should do this again sometime and maybe we can have more time to chat.

aberkok 12-21-2007 07:06 PM

Yeah.... not enough time. Next time.

Until then, Baraka and I will keep the downtown TFP torch going!

dlish 12-22-2007 06:17 AM

bet you guys didnt have pizza like ours though :P

good to see these meet ups come to fruition.

fresnelly 12-22-2007 05:29 PM

I wish I could have made it. Sitting on a beach sipping pina coladas did have its merits though. :D

Charlatan 12-23-2007 04:14 AM

Good to see there is still a torch burning in Toronto.

Leto 12-23-2007 04:43 AM

yes it is good. Sorry I couldn't make it guys, evenings are kind of difficult to excuse myself from family duties though... The torch burns on!

-- Charlatan, big article in the Star yesterday about the "greening" of the new theatre lands .. I'll see if i can get the link and pm it to you.
