It wasn't even real cork! Who the hell decided to not use real cork? Bastards!!

I managed to use the other end and pull the "cork" out anyway :D

Next time you cook shrimp(even though I know you don't like seafood :o ) try sauteing the shrimp with some red wine, garlic salt and pepper. :drool: oh yeah, add some butter as well. This recipe works great for sauteing mushrooms as well.

i cracked lots of corks in my (drunk) day.
i usually ended up just puching it in to the bottle and using a chop stick or something to hold the cork in whilst i pour.

and about the not-cork cork...
i heard that they're trying to save the cork trees. and thus, the synthetic cork.

what the hell? i hadn't heard a thing about cork trees since Ferdinand the Bull sat under one. And that was a looooong time ago.

Exactly. In addition, there are some ultra-high end wines that are being bottled with screw-caps. It is foolish to spend so much time developing a fine wine, then jamming a piece of bark in the top and trusting that it will seal the bottle properly.

Cork isn't bark.

Yeah I once broke a corkscrew in a real cork. I think I screwed it in at an angle, and a little side-to-side wiggle on the corkscrew, and the metal just broke! I couldn't believe it. I felt like such a wino when I had to pry the cork out and filter the cork bits out of the wine with a coffee filter. :P
