Adelaide

My wife and I are going to visit her former host famly next month. It'll be my first time down under and frankly I can't wait. :) I've always wanted to go to Australia. I was just wondering what's to do for fun there? What should a first timer go see? Thanks in advance for any insights.

Adelaide...well, I've only been there a couple of times, but tourist highlights would have to be the winegrowing region of the Barossa Valley and the little German-inspired town of Handorf where they have some seriously spicy sausage.

Here's a site to get you started...

Oh dear, you're going all the way to australia, only to go to adelaide... :(

Try and convince your wife to go to Melbourne for a day or two!

A look at Hahndorf is a nice way to spend a day. The houses are tiny. Like Hobbits had built them. Watch out for your wallet, though! Those retailers will suck every last cent out of you if they can.
Depends how long you're there for.
If you've got a spare couple of days you could head down to Mt. Gambier for a bit of a look. Or up to Coober Pedy.

South Oz tourist maps & stuff

Edit - Hindley street for after dark entertainment. I wonder if "The Venue" is still running? Did a few gigs there over the years. Same place, different name maybe?

Eh, dont knock little old Adelaide!

Some of the best wine regions in the world - Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne creek, Clare Valley etc (you must have heard of Penfolds Grange Hermitage??)
Rundle Street for cafe's
Central market, Gouger street for the best asian food
Haighs chocolates
Awesome beaches
Kangaroo Island
Etc, etc, etc
Plus, people are generally laid back, relaxed and friendly.
