I've inadvertently gone forth in the past however seveal months to create my own interim-displaced bloggings, separated by content and theme and expositions, into about 50 or so factions (perhaps even more). No one can me; All I do to better myself is become more efficient, more sincere, candid, and hopefully, in time, be more fully-recognized for expanding awareness. If only I could get forth on those general intuitive discussions, but as you know me, I'm a perfectionist, and I always need a way to open the discourse, and exhibit the particular piece to which I currently have come to feature. Life is hard. Giving it meaning is immensely more difficult. http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l0...8sono1_500.jpg (I get carried away... score: free new blog post by accident. (I'm ranting in my head now why my interests doesn't interest any others.) |
All righty.. guess I better finish of this story... Longest short story ever!
.... ...I don't see feathers or anything in the mirrors, and don't have a great view out the left hand mirror, to see if he's off to the side, so I'm thinking all is cool, and get back into it... So there I am, tootlin' along, and I start coming up behind another road train, and as there is a bend coming up, I have to lift off the gas a bit until I get to a long enough passing straight..... The right foot comes off, but I don't slow down... That’s weird.... Give the pedal a couple of stabs, and still nothing.... Crap, I'm thinking, the accelerator is stuck. Never happened before. (on this truck, anyways) Whilst I'm deciding on a course of action, the gas suddenly comes off on it's own, then back on, off again, on, and then off again. Now this is really weird. I decide not to pass the road train yet, whilst I sort out my own little drama. I let the speed come down a bit, then plant the pedal again, and off, to see what happens. Normal. Then it's on again all of its own accord. Then on and off again a couple of more times... Fine. Time to stop and lift the cab and have a bit of a look at the linkages, and sort a solution.... I'm letting the truck slow down under normal engine braking, as I see a nice wide floodway ahead, good for getting off the road, and yet still be on the bitumen. Something catches my eye, in the reflection on the chrome housing of one of the spotlights. As the light is so round, its hard to tell, but I reckon I just found that bloody Eagle. He must be jamming the linkage. Makes perfect sense. For some weird sun stroked moment, I decide that I'm gonna catch me an eagle. Hell I had a kangaroo, an emu and a dingo as pets over the years, why not an eagle. FYI. Kangaroos make great pets, if you get them young enough. Emu's are turd factories on long legs. So I pulls up, jumps out and head to the front. Sure enough, the Eagle has landed. He has his head between his feet, and his body is pushed back into the "grill" of the truck, right where the accelerator linkage runs. He doesn't look very happy. Mega pissed off, really. But they always look like that, right? I grab the spanner to undo the 2 bolts that keep the bull bar upright. Once these 2 bolts are removed, the bar can swing down, to allow the cab to be raised. I don't need to raise the cab, but I'm going to have to lower the bar, to get a hold of this fine specimen of roast dinner. I've got no gloves, rags, blankets, or anything. Barely even a plan. I'm thinking I'll just lower the bar, grab him, and chuck him in the cab.... how hard can it be, right? That's what we do with calves, at branding time, and they are heaps bigger. I lower the bar, and we talk to each other for a bit. Well I talk, he just listens, with this strange "I'll rip your throat out" kinda look in his eye. I'm starting to get nervous. What if he does'nt want to come for a ride in the cab? Bravado deserts me, and I stand back to re-assess. Sudenly, he shuffles around, and he's free! He extricates himself, and struggles to his feet, and perches on the bull bar, glaring at me. I step back a little more. He looks unhappy. Fuck knows why. I just saved his life, didn't I? He stares a bit more, then leaps off the bar, and slowly flies off and perches in a nearby tree. I decide I've done my good deed, and tighten up the bar, and set off again. Probably make a lousy pet anyways... . http://www.birdway.com.au/accipitrid...agle_89922.jpg |
What great recounting,
with such numerous sidebars, I'm hungry for more! 2+3-3-1=1 |
I agree with that assessment! though the "hungry for more" reminds me that eagles probably don't taste too good. Do they?
Great story, Zook. Do you have any stories about raising a baby 'roo? |

//!// You can't take it back is a really good reason to watch what you say. //?// |
Maybe I get lost easily, but a question: Is what I'm hearing to mean that you ran over an eagle, had it stuck under the cab of your truck for some time, checked to see what was the matter with your gas and brakes, and found this bird to be the culprit? And he was alive, none (too) worse for the wear? That's right incredible! (Though I do have an inclination to believe it more if it was a high-enough carriage like a Suzuki is known to sport.)
|
I can assure you that every word is true.
Although, I didn't run over it... I "rear ended" him, as he was flying away. I do not know if he had any injuries, but he did survive to fly off. We never met again, so I don't know if he lived to a ripe old age or not... Suzuki? as in Sierra/Samurai? Nope.. Nissan UD, COE, (cab over) . |
I also thought by the middle part of the story that you were going to eat the bird, so there is something to my (in)ability to follow closely.

These seem like cute little guys!
But I think they get quite large, don't they, Zook? I can relate to this guy: |
The one I had was a North West Red, and he eventually stood over 6 feet tall, on his tippy toes.
Not much of a story to tell about him, really. I was on the "ranch" (station, or "pastoral Station, as we call them) (ours was 1 million acres...) and was out checking windmills, and while screaming down one of our tracks, a roo charged out from the side, and I clobbered it. It stumbled away, and I saw it eject a Joey from it's pouch. The joey was quite small, and mum was done for, so I chased joey and bundled it into a chaff bag I had on the back, and put him in the cab. When I got home, I handed the wife my chaff bag, and said, "here. I got you a pressy". She was a city girl, and had never seen a roo up close, let alone a cute joey. It takes a few days for them to start feeding from a bottle, but once they get the hang of it, all goes well. As he got older, he spent less and less time in the "pouch", an old pillow case hung of a chair, or a door knob. He had the run of the yard, and came inside to sleep with my German Sheperd at night. He loved peanuts, and eventually used to follow the wife around, up to the main house, and down around the cattle yards. When we moved back to the city, we took him with us, as we were renting a house on a small vineyard, with good fences. We stayed there for nearly 2 years, during which I had to castrate him, as he was getting his seed, as was starting to get aggressive. (Simply use a castrating ring, designed for sheep) He settled down again after that, and was eventually homed at a bird santuary a couple hours north of Perth. We saw him again a few year later, and supringly, we think he recognised us. He was trying to get his head and hands into my pockets, which he used to do, to get a feed of peanuts from me. The santury wouldn't feed him peanuts because they were supposed to be bad for him. They eats nuts and stuff in the wild, so I couldn't see the problem. We was named Casserole. http://image58.webshots.com/758/7/55...5KTlVIZ_ph.jpg . |

I need to post this in the NFL Discussion, as it was a "bet", more or less, I heard installed by my local morning news talkies last season, and I've wanted to try it out.
Picture it as a "winner take all" sort of thing, or maybe for each pick you guess right, you get awarded points. I think I have it down now (I made up the points thing myself). Correctly predict your choices for the 2010-2011 NFL Playoff season. For each division winner correct, you get get 3 points. For each playoff team correctly assumed ("wildcards") - 2 points. Predict the Super Bowl team representatives: 5 points each. Correctly state who will win this year's Championship - 8 points. Maximum number of points for the person who correctly ascertains all 12 playoff teams, division winners, Super Bowl teams, and the winning club - 50 points. (Do you think I should add in something towards the divisional championships?) |

Jet, are you being harassed? If so, it must be in one of those sections I don't usually go....but if you don't mind, point me to it so I'm better informed about what's happening around here.
|
No, I don't usually give or get the harassment, but with my keen intuition (and a knack for the coincidental) I can more likely than not discern when someone(s) are hissing about my character, or how they perceive I function.
My paranoia, self-depreciation and "bad-luck timing" also may have played a part in this, but still... I don't know. Who does? What's the meaning of life? It's not a relevant "theme" of mine, but honetsly and to best of my abilities, yeah, I do try to tackle yet another one of life's pertinent questions with each passing day I decide to contribute here (or there) and just wish to converse with another soul about. Is it so wrong that my life has always been in such chaos, that I now seek to compartmentalize nearly anything and everything into terms of relevance and fancies? I'm going into existentalism again, for which I apologize. gosh, now I've lost my point - and my reason for coming back again. What did i want to share here in order to brighten your day? That's one of my only (and foremost) goals in everything (and all that I've come to gather) that I do when at the TFP: if my opinion should matter here, I shall add it; if my life experiences can aid in a facet of another's life, I shall try my best to best represent it; if I come across something of note and interest, I devote a meticulous sort of time and manner in order to best fully portray it to my audience here: you all. Point, point... where is that elusive point? Nick-o: I'm fine. I'm always fine. Sometimes I'm happy, sporadically I'm sad, I'm only mad when I want to be, and lately, I'm just getting tired of having to climb uphill higher and higher to just get one singular 'hello', and maybe, I'm merely a tad envious that I can't seem to ever get any one of my contributions to get the smallest kudos, or questions, or conversations. I'm not going out of my way to post all that I do in order to merely talk to myself; just for reference's point: I'm not all that interesting, and I usually don't get far in a conversation without a starting point. So, with all that I do and try so hard to achieve, I'm finding dozens upon hundreds of small little taling points to meet nearly one TFP members' interests, yet here I usually stand: alone, and tumbling further down. You know guys: those 'Alice in Wonderland' references I once stated came to me in at least one iteration daily; they've slowed down some, but they've become so much far profound. I've probably left this thought open-ended and unfinished, and that's really unlike me, but I'm sure you're tired of seeing the words jumble together just as much as I do, and those reading glasses you picked up are more than likely pinching your nose something awful. I've kept a bazillion of my queued ideas on hold for the longest while now, so little by little, I'm going to unlock the dams, and just let it flow, for better or worse. |
Oh, now I remember for what I was asking: thank you, mind, for being so

it's actually quite funny (if you are me): I was actually chuckling about the coincidence of it. Thanks to your post, BadNick, about some olden calendars once starting their new years in September, I decided this was the tide of the season for me to shift slightly. So, what with the new avatar / signature adoption, we have become halfway there. So, this little one-sided spat (I haven't really acknowledged it all, or even mentioned that I know what's "on the down low", to the person who first mentioned it, save for a little aside here) is factual in just two dimensions, but they have not coalesced as of yet (for as much as I know, which again, is very little.) The point might be slipping away here, so I'll condense my thoughts and "zoom" right for it: while this said person now wishes to, in essence, "compete" with me, after for so long, sniping at me anonymously, and for the most part, being on "silent mode", their best option seems to be to fight fire against me, whatever I am. "Post more!" They cry. "Silence that one guy who has now invaded our space. That might teach him, but we don't need to approach him about it, because that's just illogical." Like when I lost my weekend match, after I took the crown last winter (I'm talking sports now) when my arch-rival from that matchup re-confronted me, (and afterwards, walloped my behind in the endgame) he, too cried, "REVENGE!!! / Vendetta!". So, it's funny / coincidental, also not to mention a wholly contradictory method, (but I just mentioned it, didn't I?) as how they choose to confront my so-called "spamming" and/or "nonsense" is by rallying for others to aid in posting more, a la "spamming" just for the sake of shutting me up / down /sideways / frontways / and waterways. It's really a wonder at how my mind just switches on like this; I can honeslty tell you when I'm doing work, or reading, or watching my nightly hour of TeeVee, or eating, I can tell, without a doubt, there is not a single thoughtform to be found inside these gray walls. All I wanted to state, verily in metaphorical terms, is that I thought this whole "little thing" was amusing because it was sort of reality-based play on my new avatar, the (Aesop's) Fable recounting the tale of The Tortoise and the Hare. For the first time, though, I'm not in the role of the one with the ears. |
I'm all about asides; I'm the TFP-version of Hamlet, maybe?

I also forgot to mention to ask if you any of you fine folks is still watching the tv from time to time; the other night, sometime around twilight (whenever that may be) I decided to turn on the tubular device and happened upon the middle of the story of the once-entralling rivalry between the top women's tennis stars of the time, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. It was a part of the documentray series produced by ESPN: 30 for 30. I forgot the exact titling of the episode. I'll try to find it right now. |

And I'm not sure if you can watch the entire viewing online yet (or ever) but I did happen to find, and will provide, the official-unoffical site preface to the Doc: ESPN's '30 for 30' documentary 'Unmatched' focuses on the rivalry and friendship between Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert - ESPN It's great, yet also grating, then great all over again (it's in the way the story is told). - - - + bonus I found this video on youtube as well, but it is like a trailer of sorts, not the entire full-length feature to which I am alluding. |

by the way: I started this entire post at :30 past the hour
After rummaging it around in my head for a while, I came up with my formula(s), and decided to share it (finally); tell me what you think (BadNick).
AFC Division winners (3 pts each correctly assumed) nwe bal sdg ind Wildcards (2 pts) ten hou NFC Division winners (3 pts) was gnb sfo atl Wildcards (2 pts) nyg nor - - - two toss-up wildcards (both conferences; "surprise" contenders; no pts... yet) mia min -- this category is more like a "if one of my wildcard/division winners above didn't pan out, I would have chosen this team instead". It's a 'safety what-if', but the wrinkle in it is, as of right now, it's not worth anything to include it. Would you assign this category a point(s) if the presumer, assumed correctly? - - - Super Bowl Outcome (4 pts for each team correctly assumed; 10 pts for the winning prediction) nwe vs. gnb (winner emboldened) -- 50 total points (this is if I get every single one of my above predictions right, minus the "toss-ups".) - - - + bonus if I were to include the AFC/NFC Championships into the matter as you suggested, I would slightly tweak the scoring points after the initial playoff teams predicted, but before the SB Picks. It would go as follows: (4 pts each team that makes it; 5 points to victor) AFC: nwe vs. bal NFC: nor vs. gnb ...and then follows the SB Picks (- to this point, all correct choices yields a total of 58, before your pick to the year-end NFL Championship Team) Super Bowl (II) nwe vs. gnb (additional 10 points if you predicted it) with this revised scoring, again, assuming this is 100%-probability prediction, there is 68 total points to be had. - - - - - so, offering this up to a pool of participants, based on the end results yielding some sort of incentive ($$$) how do you like my system? It doesn't need points, I'll admit, but with this, it does add value to the various stages of the playoffs, and therefore, adds an element of skill/foresight/mastery , in addition to the ever-present "lucky factor" that follows the NFL game. what do you think? do you like the 50-point or 68-based system? what would be your picks? should I spread the word on this forthwith? (I worked a long time elucidating it to you; did I mention this?) |
Jet,
I finally figured out how to join the/your group and make my picks. So I did that a little while ago before reading your post. So my picks for this week and Monday night are saved. What are the "confidence points" about? On your point formulas above, I like the 68 setup but not because I fully comprehend your system...just reading and trying to think of all those possibilities and odds made me dizzy...but mostly because I like the number "68" more than "50". It seems you really put a lot of thought and time into it so go with your instincts. I would say you have better than even odds at getting it just right. |
simplified (playoff picks)
you try to correctly predict all 12 NFL postseason teams, while also providing insight into which teams you think will win their divisions, advance to the conference championships, and ultimately, which team you think (you "know") will win it all in the end. to help you along your journey I installed points to help make it easier to break ties in a pool where maybe some people got the same number of "guesses" right, but there wasn't a discernable way on how to figure out who predicted "better"; now there is. With a series of point elevators for each stage of the playoff picture the deeper you predict, and correctly, the more handsomely you are rewarded for your insight. Understanding the points at this initial stage doesn't matter as much, but they are there and set for reference, and once the playoffs begins, that's when they'll start accumulating, and thus, making more sense. At this stage (or when I transfer my whole entire post above into the NFL Thread) is when you only need to provide your 6 AFC + 6 NFC playoff teams, and then I'll help you progress from there. - - - simplified (confidence points) I didn't know how these worked either, but I quickly caught on. You assign weighted points to each game based on how well you are "confident" that one team will win over the other. Say you have the utmost confidence that the Eagles will win, no matter what, this Sunday against the Lions. If this is your "stone-cold lock" of the week (as Tony Bruno would you) then you would assign this pick'em a 16 (the highest available choice.) On the other hand, if you are so unsure aabout the Monday Night contest between NO @ SF, and you have no (___) idea as to which team will win or lose, based on a number factors you don't understand, and would rather you lose the least amount of your "wager" percentage, then you would vote this as your pick "most likely to get wrong"; and therefore, you would assign it a value of "1", or a basic vote that you have little to no "confidence" that you picked this matchup correctly. It's not a perfect system, and I much prefer the percentages, but I can't change it now (I'm pretty sure) and I think it adds a level of thinking just a notch above a quarter toss for or against. I'm not sure if you play the spreads, but I will be adding this element to the game next season (assuming this little trial run was even a mild success). As always, I'm the helpful enabler, so please, if you have any further questions, it shall be a hestitant wait not for either of us to exchange formalities, I hope. |

I had to input my confidence points which I now did, so it says I'm complete for this round. Now I have a reason to follow the scores this week.

Our lead's still slipping, so if anybody cares to we should post a bit. |
I think that's the blind guys feeling the elephant, right?
|
Yes, & as each one
perceived it something diff'rent, I thought it like us. |
Ocm?,
Even with my eyes closed I can tell you're clever and witty. |
Though often described
as misunderstandable, I like your words more. |

scene from "The Blind Side" |
Did you just watch it, BadNick?
|
Jet, football on your mind?
No, I saw it last year with my older boy. He's on the school football team and asked me to go see it with him and his team friend. So in the football fantasy game after one week I'm a distant 3rd place, out of four. I suspect the 4th guy never picked since he has zero points. You are quite the selection expert, Jet. |
No, I think The Nihhilists picked, but he didn't adjust for the "confidence", so he received no points at all. I think The Raveners forgot to pick any games for this week. It's the pecentages, though. And both you and the other person who picked went 7-8, while I went 9-6, and we're all just waiting upon the result of the MNF game (go home team!).
And actually, I have hockey more on the mind, which is a rare opprtunity. Any insight you might be able to impart? |
As I said, I'm not much of a sports guy. About hockey, I know ice is slippery. And in the ABC Word Association game, I have several times used the word Zamboni because it sounds neat.
|
I've been jingling this around in my head for a while, though I was wondering all this time, if you partake in motorsports, do you also enjoy watching it televised, (selectively) and if so, to what genre do you more gravitate towards, if any?

2+3+3=8=8
Like watching paint dry as another makes the scene has more sensation. You see the mountain? Does it make you want to climb or enjoy the view? |
Evening entropytes (if this is a real word).
It's a crying shame that this thread is so far down the listing, I thought I'd pop back up again and make it shine. Topics, to-pictures, to-dos: what would you like to talk about, dearies? (Is this an exclusively British term of endearment: dearies?) |
Gravitationals
seem to be elsewhere perturbed & there occupied. http://images2.fanpop.com/image/phot...-1354-1016.jpg |
Hey skipper!

Ahoy in return!
On the first day of autumn, I need a time warp. |

This is probably why I also find Formula 1 racing to be just "OK" for me. While it is technologically the most advanced, with a very high level of driver talent, the stupid high budgets and money involved detract from it as far as I'm concerned. I also wish SCCA sports car racing was more widely covered. The "World Challenge" gets some coverage but NASCAR coverage is still dominant and nudges out the available time for other competition...I have almost no interest in NASCAR though I even watch that occasionally. Of course when there are world class events, such as LeMans or Sebring or Daytona, I try to watch as much of that as possible. I also love vintage car racing but not much of that makes TV. |
(I got nothin': This is re: Something else)
Obvious getting on my nerves is bothersome & spinning my wheels. |

I'd like to have a round front door. |
doorknob placed in the radial center?
|
Round doors swing from bolts inside the upper & lower frame 'bout a third way past
the edge of circle, if I remember correctly. Doorknob in the center would be aesthetically pleasing. The full moon is cloaked tonight where I reside. Perhaps it will find a chink to shine through, later. I'll be watching. |
I just saved a full moon pic somewhere, but I forgot exactly where, and to what (theme).
I'll have to look for it. (both outside, and in my messy cyber-archives.) |
I saw the cool full moon (at least it looked full to me) earlier
this evening quite low in the eastern sky. A thin haze of cloud cover muted it but it was still all visible. http://media.skyandtelescope.com/ima...2ev_341px1.jpg Wednesday, Sept. 22 •This evening Jupiter (and Uranus) are below the full Harvest Moon, as shown above. The Moon is exactly full at 5:17 a.m. Thursday morning EDT. •Autumn begins in the Northern Hemisphere, and spring in the Southern Hemisphere, at 11:09 p.m. EDT. This equinox marks when the Sun crosses the equator heading south for the year. Day and night (if you include twilight as night) are about equally long. |
I define 'twilight' as the marked waning hours in-between the transitions of the sun and the moon's respective rising/falling cycles; or in other words, I don't solely it apply it to waking dawn, but also to the engulfing dusk hours as well.
