Hair dye question (want to dye it darker, have thinning hair)

Hi, quick question.

first, a bit of background.

I've never really dyed my hair before, but always thought of the idea of dying it darker. My hair naturally looks like I dye my hair lighter since the roots are much darker than the tips, and I don't really like this. My hair was never really the thickest hair either, but it's not really bad.

So now to the question:
Would dying my hair black make my kind of thin hair more noticable?

probably because your scalp is usually pretty fair skinned, and you'll see a contrast between the dark hair and the light skin on your head.

There are hair professionals out there... make an appointment at a salon (if you are at all shy about it - tell them you are a fella, and that you are a little self conscious about it -- a lot of them are really good about scheduling you in at their least busiest time so you won't feel uncomfortable), and depending on how much thinning is involved - either the right haircut, or even some sublte highlights might make it seem less noticable to you.

Hi Scott, the first thing that I thought of was that black hair would make everything more obvious. It would bring more attention to the top of your head and anything going on up there would be more apparent. Definitely go to a salon and see what they think, they get this sort of thing all the time so they have ways to minimize it.

I dyed my hair black a few years ago on a whim and it looked ok a few weeks later but at first it looked artificial, the color was too black and it stood out more than usual, so I'm thinking dying it black might bring attention to it.

Dying to hide thinning = last, sweet smell of desperation.

Remember when you were younger, with a full head of luscious, wavy hair, and you saw some middle aged dude with a pathetic combover, or some other lame attempt to hide his baldness? And you sat there, nudged your buddy with your elbow, and chuckled?

Just keep that in mind. Sometimes you must embrace your weakness, grasshopper.
