Forced Listening
This was done first on a guitar forum.
The first person will post a song, any song they like from any genre and as a gesture of good will I will download and listen to ALL of it. Then I get to say what I liked or didnt like about it. Then I get to post a song, and the next person to post has to download, and listen, to ALL of it. Then it keeps going. So if you have ever wanted to make someone open up to a new style of music, or think a band you like doesnt get enough attention, here is your chance. Alright, Whats my song? |
Cool idea for a thread.
try out "New Orleans is Sinking" by the Tragically Hip. Ya just might like it.;) If you like it I'd recommend checking out a live version like "double suicide" or "killerwhaletank". cool stuff |
New Orleans Is Sinking
I like the guitar tone, but it seemed a little flat, especially on the solo. When I first heard the singer his voice threw me off, but I got used to it quickly, and it went well with the guitar. The song sounds like Aerosmith or Deep Purple riffin' meets indie music. I've heard of Tragically Hip before, but I didn't like their name... This song will stay on my playlist though, thanks. I'll also download the other two you reccomended. :) My song: Condition Critical by Quiet Riot. The song, not the album of which this is the title track! Oh, and I should set a limit for song length; nothing over 10 minutes please. So no Beethoven's 9th. :) |
condition critical... I liked it. It was 5+ minutes long, but they kept it fresh enough through the whole song for it to not get boring. I like the way his voice jumps from one speaker to the other towards the end of the song. It seems like a good song to play on my good stereo and blast. The neighbors will be too surprised to be mad.
I suggest someone find the song "The Other Side" by Morphine. I'd be interested to read what someone else thinks of it. I hope this thread takes off, this is a good idea. |
Forgotten Tears by Hocico
I just recently rediscovered it and I really like the synth.. check it |
ok. as far as 'the other side'. I am not a big fan of that style of music, and I really don't like it when I have to make an effort to hear the singer under the music, but, the longer I listen, the more it grows on me. It was pretty decent, and it will be staying in my playlist for a while, at least.
Forgotten Tears (suicide commando remix, not sure if that was the one you were talking about) Good song, I've been listening to a little more techno lately, and this was a particularly enjoyable one. The voice effect did get a little tiresome near the end, but otherwise, it was nice. It had a really infectious beat, too. Alright, I've really gotten into Muse lately and I want to hear what somebody else thinks of their song New Born. |
So to keep the thread moving, I'm going to jump back in and field this one.
New Born by Muse... I've never heard these guys before. At first I was going to compare them to the sound of Coldplay, but then the song really kicks in and they take it up a notch. I like the mix of the different kinds of music. There's some great piano and then they kick in with the heavier sounds. Overall I like it. I'll keep it in the list and give it a few more listens. Thanks. For the next song I'll go with Gomez - In Our Gun. Whattya think? |
In Our Gun is a pretty awesome song. I was enjoying the lush sounds and the vocal harmonies, and was pretty surprised by the freakout at the end. I think I'll listen to this some more, actually.
The muse song is pretty good, also. I'll now suggest someone listen to "Jesus Forgive Me" by Concrete Blonde. Like it? Yes, No? |
bumpy bump...
anyone? I want someone to listen to my song so I can listen to theirs! |
I'm really itching to play this game, anleja, but I've been unable so far to find that song with soulseek. Might there be a website where I can download it?
|
I couldn't find that song to download it but I'm sure it's a really good song.
Try listening to a song called "Destroyer of Senses" by a band called Shadows Fall, if you haven't heard it yet. If you have, tell me what you think of it. |
Quote:
I am now going to look for that Shadows Fall song. |
While we're in limbo, I'll throw out another one for opinions.
Claire Voyant - Love The Giver (eskil simonsson mix) It's off the Time Again album. |
Quote:
Next, one of my favorites both lyrically and musically: In Flames - Aritfacts of the Black Rain |
In Flames - Aritfacts of the Black Rain
I was really digging this until the vocals came in, at which point I cringed a bit. I have trouble with these 'death metal vocals', as I refer to them. But the music is very enjoyable, and not technically skilled for the sake of being technically skilled (another of my pet peeves), so they get the pass just like Soilwork's "Millionflame" does. Actually, in listening to it for a third time, I'm warming up to the vocals. Which is to say that they aren't bothering me and seem like they were meant to fit with the music. Next song: Lake Trout - "Bliss" |
this is a fantastic idea for a thread! cuz you know, everyone wants to suggest something, but noone wants to listen (myself, unfortunatelly, included)...
however, slightly less obscure things should be posted, me thinks... I'm on soulseek, but havn't been able to download 3 of the songs I've tried to jump in on =P I'd like to think my music is obscure, but it pulls up fine on soulseek usually (of course, soulseek is all about obscure electronic music=) yup... still trying, I'll join in soon enough! |
There is another alternative...and I'll use it.
I uploaded the Lake Trout song to my angelfire site. http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |
Okay, which ones haven't been finished yet?
lessee... Jesus Forgive Me::Concrete Blonde I like the vocals, and although I really like there to be more music in my music, I thought it was a good song. There was enough there for me to enjoy, and I will be looking at more of their stuff. Love The Giver (eskil simonsson mix)::Claire Voyant Hmm. This one will probably be in my playlist for a bit, just to see if I like it more on repeated listenings, but at this point, I doubt it. I really like my techno to be more techno, or my normal music to be less techno, I guess. I really like the girl's voice tho, if there is one thing that gets me interested in this song, it is her voice. Bliss::Lake Trout This one is my favourite of the three. I like the guitar work, and I think the vocals and instruments ballence each other nicely. It isn't uber creative, but it is solidly enjoyable. Here's mine: War Memorial::Wedding Party and before anyone says it, I am on SlSk, and I have the song shared. |
Wedding Party - War Memorial
Christian goth, eh? Starts out well, with good female and male vocals. And it continues well. Dark, epic sound, dignified lyrics (from my very limited experience, rare in Christian music), good chorus. I admit a small aversion to the overall gothic sound, but it's not overwhelming; this is a good representative for the genre. I like it. Next up: Stew - The Instrument Of Pain I'll upload it later if requested. |
I'd love to have a listen to Stew but I can't find it on soulseek.
|
sherpahigh and anyone else interested, I have uploaded the Stew song. Click below.
http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |
Stew - The Instrument Of Pain
I wasn't too sure what to think of this one. The music itself feels like it's right out of a country and wesern movie campfire scene. At first I wasn't sure about the vocals and the music. But after a couple listens it seems to fit. I do like the mix of the male and female vocals. Overall I do like it. Not something I'd normally listen to though. Next up: Hawksley Workman - "Your Beauty Must Be Rubbing Off" |
Hawksley Workman - "Your Beauty Must Be Rubbing Off"
I like it. Especially the vocals. Wierd, yet melodic and catchy. The upbeat theme of the song is done in a way I tend to like, and there's no exception here. It doesn't hurt that it's got a nice, catchy beat. I'll be hanging on to this one, and sampling the band some more. Next song: Belle & Sebastian - "Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying" And I'll upload it upon request. |
Hawksley Workman - "Your Beauty Must Be Rubbing Off"
well, this is most definitely not my cup of tea, musically speaking. however, for fans of this type of music (irish/celtic folk, I guess youd call it) it is worth a listen. Hawksley has a very expressive voice and theres an urgency to his phrasing that adds something to this expression of love. his lyrics are interesting and carry a certain weight of conviction. theres a tendency to try to pack a couple too many words into each line, but its nothing thats overtly annoying or distracting. I thought the use of the steel drums added a nice island flavor to the tune which blended well with the overall upbeat tempo. this wont be going into my permanent playlist, but its certainly worthy of keeping if you like this sort of music. I dont, but that is not a reflection of the tune, but rather the genre. for whomever decides to go next: Montrose: Space Station #5 |
Heheh...you must've missed my post by a minute. Oh well.
|
Montrose: Space Station #5
I'll say right off the bat that I'm not predisposed to liking this kind of music (80s rock). I couldn't get into it, and I probably won't listen to it again. The vocals irk me a little, but I also like them a little. I like the dark-sounding parts, but dislike the straight-out rock & roll parts and found them boring. But as a representative of the genre, it seems like it's a good song. I definitely like the intro. Basically, I'm not a good judge of this song's quality. I've a little too much bias here. Here's the next one (what I posted above): Belle & Sebastian - Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying It'll be uploaded in a few minutes to this site: http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/jms/index.html |
Belle & Sebastian - Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying
I'm really liking the simple sound of this song particularly the guitar. Not sure what to think about the vocals just yet. I'm not sure why but it kind of reminds me of "these days" by Nico. Maybe it's the voice. Pretty catchy tune, I like it and I'll give it a few more listens and maybe check out some more of their stuff. Next up: My favorite track from their latest cd - The Tragically Hip "The Dire Wolf" |
Quote:
FTA, it might interest you to know that this song was released in 1973 and featured the major-label debut of Sammy Hagar on vocals. 80's rock? if you are referring to the "hair band" syndrome of that decade (ie Poison, Cinderella, etc), know that this is one of the records that inspired many of those bands. know also that 99% of those posers couldnt touch this song, or the skill of the group, with a ten foot guitar. |

The Tragically Hip - "The Dire Wolf"
I like the pulsing rhythm kept through most of the song it meshes well with the understated melody of the main guitar line. I didn't care for the singer at first, but he grew on me. He has one of those voices that takes a little getting used to. I liked the lyrics though. Paints a nice picture. All in all, I quite enjoyed it. Although it’s a little light for my normal taste, I still liked it. Next up: Mad Season - "Wake Up" <---That's a link. |
Mad Season - "Wake Up"
I felt like I was on heroine wilst listening to this song. I like the floating sound of the tune, and it it get's harder towards the end, which is a nice change, like the bulid up and the let down. Over all, nice song sounds very professional and moody. Next song: Lavacola: Papercut Suicide http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/L.../lyrics-0.html (DL on this page) |
No takers on my song?
|
crakprogram i will as soon as the dl gets done its takeing for ever
ok the music is nice and fast paced the lyrics are interesting a little more cynical then what i am use to but interesting none the less my song white stripes seven nation army |
This is a great song. I've been a White Stripes fan for a long time (insert college radio music snobbery :) ) It's simple, catchy, and rocks. The guitar effect (not bass) on the verse is very cool. And it wouldn't be a White Stripes song without the blues-inspired breakdown/solo. Finally...something I can hear on the radio that doesn't suck!
My song... "Hollywood Squares" Dillinger Escape Plan |
Dillinger Escape Plan - Hollywood Squares
Well, the first 45 seconds or so sounds like a bad System of a Down outtake. After that, it becomes more distinct and enjoyable, but it also seems a little more jumbled and chaotic. It almost seems like a new song is starting around the 2:20 mark. But it's after that point that I like the song most, also. That half of the song is pretty cool. But I don't very much like the first half. Next: The Shins - Turn a Square I'll have it uploaded in a minute or two to the same site as before. |
I really like this song. I've heard the shins on the radio before but I've never really heard this song.
It seems like a cross between early who and the Buzzcocks. The baseline seems like it was borrowed from "There goes your man" by the Pixies. The vocals are very clean -with just a pinch of british accent. Next: The Von Bondies "C'mon C'mon" Which is the song that starts playing if you go to their website http://www.vonbondies.com/ (flash required) |
Just downloaded the Von Bondies "C'mon C'mon"... here are my thoughts:
I took the liberty of visiting the website before listening to the song, just so that I could locate the band, geographically and temporally. Great intro... it gathers interest, then strikes HARD with the vocals. Definitely a strong vocal presence, and the band seems tight, with involved backup singing by the group. The tune makes you wonder how close their produced sound is to their on-stage sound. I would hazard that the sound is pretty authentic. I like. Unfortunately, the song I downloaded (all that were available, it seems) was only 2:13 in length, which I'm guessing is not the full version of the song. Regardless, I think I'll check out some more of their stuff. next stop: Buck 65 - "Wicked and Weird" |
Buck 65 - "Wicked and Weird"
Distortion-packed beats with energetic vocals. If they did not go nuts with the distortion as much as they did, I would have liked it alot more. The rhythm of the vocals (minus the overdone distortion) in the first half reminded me of some parts of Red Hot Chili Peppers' vocals from "If You Have To Ask", which appeals to me alot more :) Next: Glideascope - Devushka (Beautiful) (there's a full download for this song on the page, and while you're there, check out the 2-minute sample of What Kinda Madness, just for fun) |
Glideascope - Devushka (Beautiful)
A little too repetitive for my tastes. Coupled with not being predisposed toward this kind of music, I don't think this is a song I'll be keeping for long. But as for the positives, it has a very nice sound for creating an atmosphere of sorts. This isn't a great complement, but I consider it very good background music. Another plus, derived from that, is that it's a good song for playing while reading or doing homework; it's not distracting. But mostly, I stick to songs I can enjoy actively listening to, and this isn't one of them. Next: Cursive - Art is Hard Right here. |
Cursive - Art is Hard
i like the song, but it seems to me to need a good bassline, might have just been my speaker though. the end is really good too, sort of a 'the who - teenage wasteland' ending, abrubt. next is driftwood - outcast can be found here |
ahh stealing from MusiciansForums.com huh?
Well so I end up with some Driftwood huh? Well...it starts out with some Van Halen-Eruption style hammer ons...easy, but it sounds cool...then moves onto some decent riffs, bass part is kinda repeditive, back to some more of the same guitar work...the lyrics are lame, the vocals are very tepid, bordering on sucking major ass... The more i listen the more I think this singer shouldnt sing. All in all, a very lukewarm, mainstreamitised effort, with lousy unorigional guitar work. Next: Dream Theater- A Change of Seasons. I hope you have some time on your hands :) EDIT: DAMN! Quote:
Opeth- The Amen Corner, the song Madrigal is the intro to The Amen Corner, so download it too if you have time... |
Opeth - The Amen Corner
Usually, these kind of vocals really drag a song down in my eyes, but something's different here. I can say that I thoroughly enjoy the song from start to finish. Nice mixture of metal and acoustic. Opeth's a band I've definitely gotten into, and one of their albums may be my second-ever metal purchase (not including nu-metal). Good stuff. Next: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - "Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone" Here. edit: looks like bandwidth's exceeded. If you can't get it off a p2p, just check back with the site periodically. |
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - "Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone"
Interesting, sort of a college band sound with a heavy shot of Bob Dylan thrown in there. The music, although rather repetitive, isn't bad. Sort of upbeat, but the guitar solo in the middle sounds something like what happens when I touch a guitar. Something about the vocalist's voice just irritates me, though. Here's one to find: Stuart Hamm- "Who Do You Want Me to Be Today?" |
I tried all my sources and I couldn't find that song. Any suggestions?
|
Stuart Hamm - Who Do You Want Me to Be Today?
awesome. very funky, sexy sound about it. the bass is simply incredible. i assume that he's the bassist. not a bad vocal track either. i think i'll check out more of his stuff based on this. try this one out, kids: Blood Brothers - American Vultures |
the Blood Brothers "American Vultures"
this song could be described as the nightmare of any kid who was forced to take piano lessons. or "when hardcore kids think they are tom waits/randy newman" or this song is the answer to the question, "i wonder what the blood brothers would sound like if they replaced guitar/bass/drums with a piano?" give this a listen... the Apes "Black Tears" |
The Apes - Black Tears
Interesting... has a nice slow beat so far... I like the heavy synth...lyrics seem a bit repetitive but not a huge problem... song ends very abruptly... I wonder if that's actually part of it... reminiscent of Blood Brothers' "The Shame" if so... I'd have to say it was pretty good. how about we try.... A.R.E. Weapons - Don't Be Scared |
1 hour, 22 mins left KWSN. ..
waiting.. .. 58 minutes. Oh boy! I found one! Good song, not my forte, but good nonetheless. Uplifting-ish lyrics, make me want to sing and dance and stuff. Not really sure what genre you'd classify it as, but check it out. Real hard to find on kazaa tho. Oh, my song.. - Cast From Eden - Backspace - |
more sources, more sources, more sources!
|
Listening to this song, so far kickass... sounds like equal parts Converge and Black Dahlia Murder so far... the sound quality on this cut is a bit subpar... but that's not the band's fault... they need to turn up the bass a bit but that's not a huge problem... ok, this kicked ass... loved the math-ish death metal approach, totally brutal, while at the same time showing great musical skill. great track.
my next: French Toast - Breakfast. http://www.frenchtoastdc.com/Media/A...0Breakfast.mp3 <--- that's a link to the track to spare you the p2p. |
I like this song. It reminds me of some punkish songs from the 90's particularly Sebadoh or Eleventh Dream Day. Upon looking at the bands website I see that they are formed from Fidelity Jones and Nation of Ulysses -which isn't suprising.
They do sound like a funkified punk -with a very creative beat. I like it. Speaking of punk, here is a song from a band that is still around... I was into this band in the 1980's which shows my age Silly Girl by the Descendants http://jenny.boredgeeks.com/sillygirl.mp3 |
This is great so far!! Good, simple, feelgood punkish music, I like it a lot. Love the singer's voice, gives tons of character to the music. Love the drumline too... this is very catchy, I quite enjoy this. Thanks!
next one: Joe Jackson - Look Sharp |
For anyone who doesn't use a downloader here is a link to the classic song
Look Sharp by Joe Jackson http://www.prankster.it/Joe-Jackson-Look-Sharp.mp3 |

Joe Jackson - Look Sharp
Not bad, just not my particular style of music. Simple, almost-funk-but-not-quite music seems to work rather well in this case. And now: The Reverend Horton Heat- Galaxy 500 http://www.artemisrecords.com/mp3/Galaxy500.mp3 |
I really like the Reverend. I've seen him twice and I don't think I've heard this song yet. I like the general retro feel to his music. I think if he was born in the 40's then he would be as big as Gene Vincent or Buddy Holly.
The song is a great rockabilly song about a car. That's one thing that rockabilly songs seem to do -idolize cars. In this case the car is a beautiful old car without air conditioning... I guess it's tragic for this reason. Definitely worth a listen and don' t tell anyone I'm downloading it to my library. Next up is a song from (again) when I was about 16 Husker Du "New Day Rising" http://todd.digiplebes.com/japan/New%20Day%20Rising.mp3 |
Good song, not really sure what the static in the background is. Maybe my shitty speakers.
Nice and upbeat, drums sound like a drum machine or something hah.. kinda monotanous, but a good song. My song. --- A Life Once Lost - Cavil --- Oh, I'm glad ya like that song KWSN, a friend of mine was lead guitar for them until he moved here to Portland. Amazing band. |
I feel too piggy if I take this one so I'll just hotlink the song location
A Life Once Lost - Cavil http://www.deathwishinc.com/download...LOST.cavil.mp3 |
A Life Once Lost "Cavil"
a decent metal-core track...the one thing that stands out is the drummer...working the double bass pedal like a motherfucker...as a whole, the bands sound is along the lines of Converge or Mastodon....somewhere in the middle....brutal my song... Ex Models "Love Japanese Style" |
I'm having some issues findng the Ex Models "Love Japanese Style" -It wasn't on Kazaa or the Web although there were a few other songs available....
|
Ex Models "Love Japanese Style"
Very interesting song here. Not too sure what to think of it after one listen. Starts out really fast and then half way kicks back to almost a totally different song. Dosn't really seem to be any one theme tying it together. I like some of the parts of it but on a whole it's not my style. Next up... Drive-By Truckers - My Sweet Annette |
Quote:
my nomination: neko case, "south tacoma way" |
Cool song...VERY different for a country song. Usually don't like country...like this song alot. Never heard anything like it. Laid back tempo, kinda dream-like, great flow to it. Who knew? "Cool Country". Very nice song.
next one: zero7, salt water sound link |
Zero7 - Salt Water Sound
I love this! Are all their music like the track above? This would do great for a chillout mix. Things that stood out for me were the interesting bass line, the ethereal guitar, and the calming ambiance. I am definitely checking out more of their work. Next: Moonraker - Courageous World (link) |
Moonraker - Courageous World
I like it. Catchy guitar work and cool ambiant sounds. At some points I felt her vocals didn't match with what I would expect to hear with this kind of music but overall I enjoyed it. Also, it's interesting you said zero 7 would be great for a chillout mix. I have a 2 disc cd called "The Chillout" and one of their tracks is on that. Next: Supersuckers - Roadworn and Weary |
Supersuckers - Roadworn and Weary
That was a good song. It would be really good for driving. Lots of guitar, which I like. It's worthy to be in my small collection of music. If anyone can find it, Paul McCartney - Mamunia |
Mamunia:
Wow... I wasn't sure what to expect from this song, since I don't find much of Paul's stuff to my liking. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked the Beatles and all, but his solo stuff wasn't always 100% "on", if you know what I mean. Anyway, to the topic at hand. What a FANTASTIC song! I was impresed at the simplistic poignancy of the lyrics, and the almost lullabye-esque melody. A good, optimistic song about knowing the world around you and re-evaluating your surroundings; seeing the bigger picture. Great song, thanks for the lead. Next song... The Whitlams - You Sound Like Louis Burdett |
*bump*
Someone should do this one, so that I don't have to - I already know the song. |
The Whitlams - You Sound Like Louis Burdett
Interesting, creative, and upbeat song. I've heard elements of Jazz, some 60's rock, and something else I can't quite place a finger on. I like the "retro" feel alot, and this song has got it! Next: Pope Factory - High Wire Nerves |
Quote:
next: The magnetic fields, "fear of trains" |
The Magnetic Fields - "Fear of Trains"
I immediately thought of the Pixies/Frank Black after hearing a few lines from the singer. Instrumentally, it's a pleasant mix of pop and folk with some electronic instruments that aren't overbearing. The lyrics seem to tell the woes of a black woman but they aren't pretentious (and the chorus is catchy). Next: Amon Tobin - "Slowly" |
Quote:
Next up: Ween - Buckingham Green (try to find the studio version, not the live version of this) |
Quote:
This song is a roller coaster of like and not-so-hot-about-it. Musically, it's entertaining. Nothing horribly groundbreaking, but it's not cookie cutter pop either. Nice melody that's elevated by a strong, dramatic elec. guitar build. This is probably the best part of the song, and what would make me want to listen to it more times. Reminds me a bit of Queen. I realy don't like the effect used on the voice.. the raspyness is fine, but it cuts in so harshly it drags down the rest of the song. Lyrics are nice... fits the mood of the song very well =) though I don't get anything worthwhile from them, in which case, I'm mostly of the mindset that if you can't teach me somthing, then dont' say anything (in lyrics). It ends far too quickly... one of those songs where I think I would really like it if they kept going with it, but as it is, it's alot of building tension that lets off abruptly. I'll probably listen to it a few times more.. it does make me want to listen to more Ween, for sure =) Next: Mr Projectile - Less Math, More Music (off the compilation " Mas Confusion " .. so if you don't find it under Mr Projectile, search for Mas Confusion) |
this thread cannot die!
and it's a good song, I swear! go listen =) ..very easy to find on the soulseek =P |
I'd take this one, but I can't locate it, PulpMind.... can you upload it somewhere?
|
Mr Projectile - Less Math, More Music
Managed to find it on Soulseek, I like it :) I found it really soothing after a hard day's work, it's got a really gentle and relaxing tone, a really impressive electronica song. It's not really the kind of stuff I usually listen to, I generally prefer music with lyrics, although now that I know there's some good stuff out there I'll probably search for some to add to my playlist. Thanks for the suggestion. Next: Shocore - Bonecracker |
Shocore - Bonecracker
That was cool, like a techno start and then some awesome metal. I'll have to learn that intro guitar part. Thanks dude Julian Lennon - Valotte |
since this thread can not die, I'll hop in a little earlier than I intended to...
bigbad: glad you enjoyed it! if you want any suggestions, feel free to PM me! =) mini review of Bonecracker... starts off with a rather standard technoish 4/4 into, then RIPS with some great heavy elec guitars, that Slice right through... great! then the guy starts.. geh... I'm not a fan of those sorts of vocals.. at all... sounds like someone is squeezing his nuts.. which probably pissed him off enough to start screaming in flow with the song at the end (which I liked then). Great song (aside from the guy;-) .. *** Julian Lennon - Valotte For those who like the easy going, pop songs of the elder Lennon, or perhaps Elton John.. this is for you. Not too hard at all, in fact quite mild mannered. The lyrics are very sweet. Good, and safe. very safe. love and a river, very sweet. musically it's entertaining, and there are parts in it I really like with the guitar, though it's really just a love song for the radio. And now that we're on the subject of pop love songs... Next, pop love for generation whY, aka, my ex-girlfriend's favorite album after I betrayed her (I'm sorry).. and I'm surprised this hasn't been suggested yet.. : The Postal Service - Nothing Better (or just the whole album: "Give Up".. each track is unique in it's own way=) |
The Postal Service - Nothing Better
Very pleasant, atmospheric yet catchy. The dueling vocals style reminded me of the White Stripes' "Well It's True That We Love One Another", only not as cheesy. I'm really getting into this band, I liked "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" and the few other songs I've heard as well. I may delve into the Death Cab For Cutie collection first, though. Next: The Negro Problem - "Comikbuchland" |
I tried all night to find this song, but nothing. Uh... I found lyrics, but no song..
|
same here, FoolThemAll... any way you could provide it for download?

I must say, I didn't know what to expect from this. I did like it, though. Good vocals, easy to listen to... very "metropolitan", if you know what I mean. Actually, I don't even know what I mean. Sassy lyrics, cute back-up vocals, and fun sounds in the background make this a very listenable selection. I can see this one coming on the stereo at a party, and eventually half the party's stopped talking and starts listening. Can't beat that. Cool. Really neat. Next up: In Out, by Alarmbell edit: you can find the link to the mp3 by clicking this here link |
I just want to point out that this is one of my favorite threads EVER.
thank you all. |
nobody?
anyone? anyone? Bueller? ... Bueller? |
"In Out," Alarmbell: I dont have much to say about this song, as I only listened to it once. Suffice it to say that I really dislike this type of stuff. Now, thats primarily a subjective response, as opposed to objective criticism. By which I mean to say that I dont think its bad music, just completely NOT my style. I found it irritating to listen to and couldnt wait for it to end. At first, I liked the idea of the heavy fuzztone on the bass (you almost never hear that) but by the end, even that had grown wearisome. Perhaps its just me, but it felt like the fuzzy bassline set up an expectation (of something heavier and/or more chaotic to come) that the song never delivered.
next up: Not Now John, from Pink Floyd's The Final Cut |
Not Now John:
I rather liked it. I am a rather big fan of pink floyd, but I hadn't heard this one before. There was something about that seemed odd, for a PF song at least, if just felt different. That being said, kick ass. I liked the vocals especially. That one's sticking around for a while. next brave soul in line gets to try Nightwish::End of All Hope (and seriously, check out a few of their albums, they have some great range, as far a styles go) |
Nightwish. I have heard them before, and they are real good. This song is excellent.. it starts out with a slightly mellow rock beat with what sounds like a choir singing the lyrics, then the instrumentals step up and it sounds like a speedmetal song with amazing female vocals. Nice little guitar solo near the end to boot. Good song.

I think that your reaction to the song is primarily due to the fact that the Final Cut (and thus this song) is more a Roger Waters album with PF as the backup band than it is a true Floyd album. If you listen to the album in its entirety, I think you'll find it is much more like Water's solo work than the rest of the Floyd catalog. in any case, as you said, it definitely does KICK ASS! |

Have heard some other songs by them. Not a bad band, but not something I would regularly listen to. The guitar and drums sound a little to 'heavy metalish" and the lead singer sounds like he's pushing for a Danzig-like sound....7 out of 10 for what it is....

Gah, my post got erased when I clicked another link...
Anyways, Bad vocals, emphasis on instramentals instead of vocals, and rightfully so. Interesting lyrics, interesting sound. Not something I would listen to or reccomend. The Agony Sceen - Habeas Corpus |
hmmmmm, very good drumline, nice guitar riff too. Vocals are very death-metally, remind me of Black Dahlia Murder. something i would listen to again.

Hmm...it's decent and definitely listenable, but I dislike the techno edge it has. I prefer the other few songs I've heard by this band, particularly "Sister Savior", which sounds much less techno-ish to me. Another part of it is that the song doesn't seem to 'build' very much....that's probably the wrong word, but I mean that it doesn't become any more interesting as it progresses. I pick what I view as the only great song off the new Travis album... Travis - Happy to Hang Around |
Travis - Happy to hang around
Uh, intresting song. Pretty mellow, easy-going sounding and decent vocals. The lyrics are kinda emo'ish altho not nearly as bad as others. Not a bad song, just something I wouldn't personally listen to. Chingy - Holidae Inn (specifically the Ludacris part) |

you're supposed to listen to the previous poster's music selection and critique it, then post a selection of your own for the next poster. Chingal0's song is: Chingy - Holiday Inn (specifically the Ludacris part) continue |
Chingy - Holidae Inn (feat Snoop and Ludacris)
I'm not sure how to pay attention to the Ludacris part, because I don't listen to rap. So, this review is going to be a bit one-sided. I do listen to quite a bit of hip hop, though, so take that as you may. So I hate this song. fuck this shit. complete shit. Horrible, redundant, pointless lyrics. Destructive. Degenerate. Look how it's making me talk! I'm an nice boy from Ohio, and now I'm filled with bitch'n'ho. Even as far as booty rap goes, it's not all that amuzing. It's not that funny, it's not even really fun. It's just there. and it stinks. like shit... Oh, let's see how many pointless things we can say as fast as possible to make it sound like we're actually rapping about something. Holiday inn. Booty. big fuckin whoop WHOOP. I like snoop sometimes, but he sounds like a lame ass fucker at the end of this drivel. Production is shotty. Lame beats, nothing even remotely ingenuitive. The engineering is top notch, of course. They can pay for that when this is the million dollar pop. this song gets an F+ That said, I will suggest something that I think qualifies as good hip hop. Immortal Technique - Obnoxious
Weird lyrics, but they flow well. Interesting beat, kinda seems more playful for the song, but whatever. Man I hate rap music. He kinda sounds pissed at an ex or the world or something, not a bad song, just not my cup of tea. The Red Chord - Dreaming in Dog Years |
