Photos in the Carolinian Smokies (and a couple bonus So. Fl.)

Well I'm still up here in North Carolina and have been taking pictures whenever I can. Here are the ones I've been able to edit thus far, plus some I never got around to uploading from a trip to Key West.

As I take more, I will continue to place them in this thread. I had to downsize some photos especially much to make them fit on photobucket, but oh well, I still feel they're presentable. Stick with it, I promise the pictures get better near the end!

OK, Day 1

It was raining right before we got there, so I couldn't resist the urge to take some pictures of the water drops:

Then we went to the nearby golf course to throw the ball for my dog. Here you see my dog and my mother:

Day 2

I woke up and decided to take a walk and take some pictures, nothing spectacular.

Some pretty lighting on a golf cart path:

A patch of ferns I thought was nice and quaint:

Shot of the golf course...not a great photo, but I like the composition:

Day 4

Ah, July 4th. We took a hike up a mountain...it was really shady and I didn't bring the tripod, so there weren't many great photo ops...but here are a couple documentary ones. In it is my brother and my dog:

However, I did get to take some nice glam shots of the dog at the top:

Day 6

I woke up early and went to a local stream that I have gone to since I was a kid.

Not a great photo, but I thought it was cool how you can see the water moving at different speeds further away:

Thought this one was pretty nice:

I liked how the water looked going around the log:

Thought this was pretty, the water flowing under the blooming rhododendrons:

I like this one, makes it look so tropical, and more jungly than it actually is:

Day 8

Wasn't much opportunity for photos, until my aunt's dog, a Bishon, thought he could roll with mine....literally. He had a blast, but he got dirty...and the aunt wasn't exactly thrilled.

Hate using the flash, but I needed to in this case...too much action, not enough light.

Look at those eyes!

Dog's cute, and I think the tap water looks pretty cool too.

This is my favorite.

And ah, the blow drying!

Day 9

Woke up at dawn to go to a waterfall nearby...some pretty nice pictures I thought.

Day 11

That's today, the 11th. I woke up at dawn again and went to an inn nearby with it's own lake. It was absolutely gorgeous. I am not done editing these yet, so will post more later.

A watermill:

View of the lake. I have just fallen absolutely in love with this photo, I don't know why.

There you have it. I will post more later. And as promised, some from my trip to the Keys:

Shpoop, you've come a long ways, IMHO, since you first started posting photos on TFP, especially with your compositions. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Target-rich environment. Lots of interesting shots. You capture the ambience of the surroundings very nicely, I especially like the first shot, Day 11. There are a bunch that stand out, and for comedy, the dog getting water dumped over his head was a great shot, nice shutter speed. Well done.

I love those waterfall photos. Looks like a great place to visit.

mackyroo 07-12-2006 05:35 PM

The picture on the boat (second to last) is my absolute favorite. It has amazing composition and coloring. I'd even pay for a print of that.

Shpoop 07-12-2006 05:43 PM

Some very nice shots in there. Well done. The shot of the lake in the fog is a wonderful shot. Only thing I would do is slight burn tool on the sky as its a bit bright.

avernus 07-13-2006 06:24 AM

Fantastic shots shpoop! I especially like the drop, waterfall10up. watermillup is just georgeous, how old is that millhouse I wonder?

Glory's Sun 07-13-2006 10:01 AM

Where in NC did you take those?? You have some great shots man!

Oh yeah.. what camera are you using? I think out of all your pics, the first watermill one is my favorite. The one you listed as your favorite is another great one. Good Job

Seriously, though, I'll look into prices and stuff. I might be interested.

Where in the smokies were you? I live in Asheville right now, about 30 mins from the Great Smoky Mountains N'tl park. My friend works there, and I'm working at a bank near there for a few weeks.

Just saw your other reply. Where is Cashiers? Never heard of it.

Shpoop 07-13-2006 06:02 PM

Really? It's pretty close to Asheville...same general neck of the woods, about an hour and a half into the mountains. Its at the intersection of state road 107 and I-64.

towns close by include highlands, franklin, and walhalla. It's very close to lake glenville if you've heard of that

mackyroo 07-14-2006 03:53 PM

Oh, yea, I know where Franklin is. How'd you enjoy your trip? Being from New Jersey, I'm getting sick of it down here. I'm a damned yankee.

Shpoop 07-14-2006 05:07 PM

Hah...well im leaving tomorrow, but I haven't gotten sick of it yet. I've been coming since before I can remember, the mountains will always have a little part of me.

Coincidentally, I go to school in New Jersey, and always find myself getting sick of it. What exactly is it you miss about NJ?
