What happened to Lube with Spermicide?

So yeah, it's sort of pointless sinse I use condoms, but I would like that added protection.
Why was it taken off the shelves?
Apperently, it gives some women sores, or is there more to it?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the stuff isn't overly effective:

Quote:

* Although Nonoxynol-9 has been shown to increase the risk of HIV infection when used frequently by women at high risk of infection, it remains a contraceptive option for women at low risk.
* Nonoxynol-9 offers no protection against sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea or chlamydia.
* There is no evidence that condoms lubricated with Nonoxynol-9 are any more effective in preventing pregnancy or infection than condoms lubricated with silicone, and such condoms should no longer be promoted. However, it is better to use an Nonoxynol-9 lubricated condom than no condom at all.
* Nonoxynol-9 should not be used rectally.

Hey, thanks...that was very quick!

I suppose I should just learn to use google more effectively...

there were also women like me who got AWFUL infections from N-9. That stuff caused two of the WORST female problems I ever had.

I'm with ShaniFaye on this one, it was irritating! Plus, they have pretty much figured out that it didn't help at all, and in some cases reduced effectiveness of condoms. Glad someone's on the ball out there!

I was surprised to read that it had been removed. I used condoms with Non-9 all thru my single "loose cannon" years and never had a problem... for me or my partners.

Just goes to show how our perceptions of protection can change over the years as research changes things.

Glad to see it's been removed. I've avoided it's use since I got infections from using it. It's very irritating and hubby and I both have noticed a burning sensation if we use a condom with that on it. Burning...on genitals...BAD.

Hubby and I get non-latex condoms with no added chemicals besides basic lube. KISS

oh that stuff is evil. burning willy is not funny. I'd imagine that it isn't funny for the ladies who react to it either!
