Petition to stop NHL sweater redesign

"Those who have taken the time to sign this petition wish to express their concern at rumors of an apparent league-wide jersey redesign that will go beyond making the on ice versions form fitting. At this time we would like to encourage the league and RBK hockey to carefully reconsider implementing these new jerseys without consulting with the fans first and foremost"...

Stop f```ing with our game!

Who knows if this will help....but i can't hurt.

this hockey fan supports your idea. It's out of control

Oh, and while we are at it can we sign a petition to get rid of like 10 teams?

that would be great

Yea, I'd sign that one too! Buttmen has done enough, leave my Indian Head alone! All the Original Six too!

I can't see them changing the design for the Leaf's, the Habs. Fans would burn down the arenas.

that's true... the form fitting jerseys are suppose to make then tighter (obviously) and they are supposed to be tucked in. I know of a few GMs are outright opposed to it. I know in Las Vegas they're going to discuss this as well as new rule changes.

Would be nice if someone pointed me to the "rumor" stating the possible league wide change in uniform and what those uniform would look like after the change

Coppertop 02-05-2006 09:47 AM

The number of teams doesn't need to be dropped, the number of playoff spots does.

And screwing with the jerseys is stupid. What, they're hoping to make players more aerodynamic so that they'll be faster and thus score more? Actually, that might be a good idea for my league...

Though I am repressed about it Coppertop, I am losing speed too. I am at the peak of my hockey career (I hope) and it looks bleak. All I hope is that I can gain an advantage because I'm the young guy with stamina.

I agree that the number of teams doesn't need to be changed but I think with the number of teams in the playoffs is right for the number of teams. If there were less teams, then I think there should be less playoff spots.

In any effect, back to the topic at hand. I think that the jerseys shouldn't be tucked in but if they can get more aerodynamic then go for it. But there will be a lot more skinny guys in the league. Chris Chelios has been using the same shoulder pads since he started in the NHL. And their pretty old, like the old Cooper ones which used only fabric and plastic only at the shoulders. I think players like that will get hurt the most because if you can see where the equipment ends, then you could target certain areas like the back.

feelgood, here ya go.

Bob Mckenzie

...The most striking difference between the old uniform and the new prototype is the form-fitting sweater is tucked into a new-look hockey pant that has extended kidney pads and rides much higher on the torso. We can't show you a picture of what this looks like because the league is keeping the look under wraps for now, although the Las Vegas team in the ECHL will be modeling them for the GMs during an on-ice session next week...

Isn't that what the NBA went through a few years ago? All of the fan were against it and now, nobody's complaining. It turn out fine. It's not so much of a "radical" redesign, but instead just switching the materials of the jersey to form-fitting.

silent_jay 02-06-2006 07:05 AM

form fitting jerseys, pants that ride higher up, is this a fucking game or a fashion show? They've fucked around with the rules to the point where body contact is gone, you ge a penalty for looking at a guy the wrong way and now they want to fuck with the jerseys too. They'll destroy thr game one way or another.

As for getting rid of about 10 teams or so, I'm all for that, at least the the quality of players would be better, wouldn't have people like Aki Berg and Nik Antropov in the league, damn driftwood.

I really don't like the form fitted jerseys, it makes the players look like they are in a videogame... The sweaters give everything so much more flow.

Here's an idea. Instead of giving them free press and advertising on their new product, just boycott it and continue to buy the old stuff.

The owners will go with what sells and if the new stuff doesn't then they'll go back.

Just the way the Indians did with Chief Wahoo and the baseball caps. They had the script I and tried to change the colors but realized people weren't buying the new items so they discontinued them. The fans didn't revolt or make news or try to petition, they just let their money talk and it worked.

Charlatan 02-06-2006 10:29 AM

This reminds me of the Philadelphia Flyers cooperall pants they wore back in 81 and 82:

Hanxter 02-06-2006 10:32 AM

pittsburgh too

it's not broke so don't fix it

fresnelly 02-13-2006 08:05 AM

Lord Tunderin! It sounds like they're going to be wearing Roller Derby outfits. Next thing you know, they'll add some sort of comet tail to the puck on TV. ;)

If it weren't for the "millions" apparently invested by RBK, I'd say this was just a publicity stunt where the owners and GM's get to look like heros for refusing the redesign.
