highthief 09-04-2006 08:39 AM

Ranked Number 1 and gonna stay there all year long!

pan6467 09-04-2006 08:50 AM

Ohio Rules football baby.

OSU in the college ranks and Cincy in the pros....

A good year to live love and watch Ohio football.

ASU2003 09-04-2006 10:27 AM

I'll be at some bar in Columbus next weekend to watch the big game. :) Should we have a TFP tailgate party?

byesman 09-05-2006 06:11 AM

pan6467,

Don't forget Mt Union in Division III. 8 national Championships in the past 13 years. Holders of the longest winning streak in football, regardless of division, and where my nephew plays, as well as a step nephew in law. (the latter starts and has set several NCAA records...)

Yup, sure was. I have a lot of respect for both teams, meeting up yet again so early in the season, knowing that a loss effectively derails title hopes.

I absolutely LOVE that OSU beat Texas, for so many reasons.

Hooray for the Buckeyes!

And Thank You a Bunch, byesman for mentioning good old little Mount Union College Div.III My alma mater! Go Raiders!!!

Very true on Mt. Union..... always a very strong program.

I watched every minute of that game... it sucks that they rarely show NCAA football games here in Canada... but finally Satelite TV kicks in a good one.

Buckeyes are gonna go all the way!

Maybe out west - here in the center of the universe we see most of the big games on CBS, ABC and NBC, let alone the speciality stations. We get to see Ohio, Michigan, Penn, Notre Dame, Florida, most of the big teams on a pretty regular basis.

I cannot wait for the Michigan game... I'm having my step-dad personally tape it for me and send it out for me. I remember the first time I was there... I don't think I have ever screamed louder.

ASU2003 09-12-2006 04:28 PM

I went there last weekend and had a great time watching the game at a bar/hotel parking lot.

I will defiantly be making the trip again for the Michigan game.

streak_56 09-12-2006 07:15 PM

you have no idea how I miss the whole situation there... way better tailgating... way better fans... sorry for Stampeders fans here in Calgary, but OSU was the most insane place I've been to on game day. Also, when I went to a Penn State game... there was a spat between their section and our section and when OSU won... we had all the cards.

highthief 09-16-2006 03:28 PM

OSU rolls on, and "number 2" ND falls to Michigan big time. "Number 3" Auburn beats LSU in another dog of an SEC game.

If Michigan and OSU are both undefeated come Nov 18, I would be making the trip, even from Calgary. It will be the game of the year, and it will be crazy.

I can tell you what, if I see McCoy here on the UT campus I'm kicking him in the nuts. His best pass all night was to the OSU linebacker.

Eh, home you make it to the Championship. Will make next years OSU/UT game even bigger.

Your point? Or can't you come up with anything else?

On a truer note, I'd have to agree with ASU and Streak, if OSU/Michigan are 1 and 2 ........ it would be the game of the decade, it would add fuel to an already tremendous rivalry.

bobw 09-20-2006 08:09 PM

they do look tough... just hope they don't blow up...

byesman 09-21-2006 08:52 AM

Seaver,

OSU and Texas don't play next year, it was a two year home and home contract.

highthief 09-23-2006 05:08 PM

Chalk up another win for the good guys! Penn kept it close for a long time, as they so often do against us,but talent and teamwork wins out in the long run and the Buckeyes busted out in the 4th. Not our best game, but isn't that the mark of a great team, winning when you don't neccessarily have your best stuff?

nein991 09-23-2006 06:21 PM

Solid game by the defense. They made big stops on 4th and one!

Songs of The Ohio State University
Carmen Ohio

Oh come let's sing Ohio's praise
And songs to Alma Mater raise
While our hearts rebounding thrill
With joy which death alone can still
Summer's heat or winter's cold
The seasons pass the years will roll
Time and change will surely (truly) show
How firm thy friendship ... OHIO!

These jolly days of priceless worth
By far the gladdest days on earth
Soon will pass and we not know
How dearly we love Ohio
We should strive to keep thy name
Of fair repute and spotless fame
So in college halls well grow
And love thee better ... OHIO!

Though age may dim our mem'ry's store
We'll think of happy days of yore
True to friend and frank to foe
As sturdy sons of Ohio
If on seas of care we roll
Neath blackened sky or barren shoal
Thoughts of thee bid darkness go
Dear Alma Mater...OHIO!

Ohio State Buckeyes

"Across the Field"

Fight the team across the field
Show them Ohio's here,
Set the earth reverberating
With a mighty cheer,
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Hit them hard and see how they fall,
Never let that team get the ball,
Hail, hail, the gang's all here,
So let's win that old conference now.

"Buckeye Battle Cry"

In old Ohio there's a team
That's known throughout the land
Eleven warriors brave and bold,
Whose fame will ever stand.
And when the ball goes over,
Our cheers will reach the sky,
Ohio Field will hear again
The Buckeye Battle Cry!

Drive, Drive on down the field,
Men of the scarlet and gray;
Don't let them through that line,
We've got to win this game today,
COME ON OHIO!
Smash through to victory,
We cheer you as we go!
Our honor defend we will fight to the end
for OHIO!

The whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan
We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, we're from Ohio
We're from Ohio...O-H

O, we don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan

We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, we're from Ohio

Quote:

This is one of the songs that exemplifies the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan, as well as, the rivalry between Ohio and Michigan. The rivalry between Ohio and Michigan goes all the way back to statehood. The Northwest Territory, in 1803, was divided up into states (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan (Wisconsin was carved out of Michigan in 1845), and Minnesota). In 1837, when Michigan became a state, there was a border dispute between Ohio and Michigan. Michigan wanted their southern boundary to drawn east to west, at the southernmost point of Lake Erie (south of the Maumee River). Ohio, on the other hand, wanted the southern boundary drawn at the most western point of Lake Erie (north of the Maumee River). This disagreement nearly turned into a shooting war between the two states. Cooler heads prevailed and the boundary was drawn in accordance with Ohio's wishes. For nearly two hundred years, the rivalry between the two states lives on in areas of education, industry, agriculture, tourism, etc.

In addition to the rivalry between Ohio and Michigan, the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan is the most storied in college football history. Though, Michigan leads the series and say that their true rival is Michigan State University, the Ohio State - Michigan series is always hard fought. In many of the games, since 1940, the Game has played a role in determining the Big Ten Champion, Rose Bowl, and the National Championship.

It is no small wonder why We Don't Give a Damn for the Whole State of Michigan came about. Though a very popular song, especially when Ohio State plays Michigan annually in the Big Game, We Don't Give a Damn for the Whole State of Michigan's OSUMB date of arrangement was written in this timeframe. The song appeared in the Broadway show "The Male Animal" (1940), and the subsequent movie in 1942, as We Don't Give a Darn for the Whole State of Michigan. James Thurber, an alumnus of The Ohio State University, and a famous writer and cartoonist, contributed his expertise to the production of the Broadway show. It is unknown if this song was written for the play or was already in use beforehand.

Even though Ohio State is not mentioned in the productions, it is quite obvious that Thurber's Buckeye roots were showing. There is a reference to Hennicks, a former drug store and soda fountain that existed well into the 1950s on High Street; the main commercial center on the eastern boundary of The Ohio State University campus. The characters, in the productions, tune to frequency 1210 AM to listen to the game; 1230 is an AM frequency that is assigned to Columbus, Ohio. During the radio broadcast of the game between Michigan and Midwestern State, the Midwestern State team is referred to as the Scarlet Wave. One can here the melody of Ohio, with different lyrics, being sung by the crowd heading to the game. After the game, the Midwestern State Marching Band is shown marching through the streets and their uniforms looks very similar to those used by The Ohio State University Marching Band. These references confirms that the fictional Midwestern State University is actually Ohio State University playing the big game of the season against: Michigan. Thurber's optimism also shows; the result of the game: Midwestern State 15 - Michigan 14.

The melody of the song is The Old Gray Mare (Ain't What She Used to Be), thus making it easy to sing and remember. The OSUMB sings this song as they enter St. John Arena for the Skull Sessions prior to every home game. At that time, you will find the surrounding crowd joining in!

Major Credit: A huge thank you to John Wozniak for extracting this song from the Skull Session Medley

The following is a piano rendition of We Don't Give A Damn For The Whole State Of Michigan. It uses the orginal music score for The Old Grey Mare by Frank Panella, which was written in 1915.

Remember what happened last time you Buckeyes visited Kinnick Stadium?

33-7, Hawkeyes. You're a better team now, I'll grant you that, but Iowa's gonna be up for this game.

http://cmsimg.press-citizen.com/apps...tem=1&Maxw=465

streak_56 09-27-2006 07:39 PM

definately.... it's actually the game I want to see second to OSU and MU

highthief 10-01-2006 02:44 AM

And OSU rolls on with an easy win over the Hawkeyes. This was the toughest single stretch of the season, IMO, with Texas, Penn and Iowa as problematic opponents. The Buckeyes have to guard against any let down the rest of the way, and remain sharp for Michigan later in the year.

streak_56 10-01-2006 01:22 PM

I creamed my pants... I watched the first half before I had to leave for Hockey and let me say that this win over Iowa pretty much sets the tone for the Michigan/Ohio State game.

highthief 10-07-2006 06:07 PM

Ah, another win, another "number 2" team falls by the wayside!

highthief 10-16-2006 10:04 AM

absorbentishe 10-16-2006 01:11 PM

Can anyone answer this? If that team from the north remains unbeaten, and is ranked number 2 in the polls. Once we beat them, we'll then face the number 2 team in the bowl. Has a team ever played 3 times in a 1-2 match up in one season? That's where it looks like it's heading!!

I think a bunch of other dominoes would have to fall into place, including there being no other undefeated teams - I don't think the BCS would easily facilitate this happening (although it is a mysterious system at times!)

streak_56 10-16-2006 04:19 PM

well... looks like OSU and Michigan are 1-2 and now we just wait for the scarlet and grey to prevail once again. And oh how I love Jim Tressel

Warlock! 10-20-2006 11:46 AM

FYI, the OSU/IU game tomorrow is not quite important enuf to put on any kind of basic satellite package, let alone network TV. It's on ESPN-U (evidently the "U" stands for "Fkin' stoopid channel to put major college sports"), and available for $12/mo on the DirecTV sports package. I just ordered it so I'd have something to watch while drinking beer tomorrow.

That question was in the Plain Dealer not too long ago and the answer is no. There have been like 9 or 10 2 time season 1-2 matchups, but never 3 1-2 matchups.

What would be freaky ass shit is if Michigan somehow loses to OSU and remains #2 for the BCS bowl games. Possible but doubtful, OSU would have to be their only loss, USC would have to lose 2 (UCLA, Notre Dame), WVA (to Louisville, perhaps) and Rutgers would have to lose (to Pitt or WVa perhaps). Louisville would have to lose to Pitt or Syracuse.

Then you have a lot of the others that would have to lose another game, like Texas maybe..... Since ND's loss came from Michigan I don't see how they could get ranked over Michigan.....

A lot of if's and possibly's in there, but the chance does remain.

2 OSU wins over Michigan in one year.............   no Buckeye fan could ask for more.

It might be the game of the decade.

GO BUCKS!

Lady Sage 11-14-2006 08:41 PM

The following is a joke I was sent by a fellow Buckeye fan... It is in no way meant to offend anyone that went to or is going to Michigan...

Go Bucks.

1. Guy in an Ohio bar leans over to the guy next to him and says, "Wanna hear a Michigan joke?" The guy replies, "Well, before you tell that joke, you should know something. I am 6' tall, 200 lbs. and I am a Michigan Graduate. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2", 225 lbs. and he is a Michigan Graduate. The guy right next to him is 6'5", 250 lbs. and he is also a Michigan Graduate. Now, you still wanna tell me that joke?" The first guy says, "No, not if I'm going to have to explain it three times"
2. It was reported that the Michigan Football Coach Lloyd Carr will only be dressing 20 players for the Ohio State game .the rest of the players will have to dress themselves!
3. Did you hear that the University of Michigan library burned to the ground? All five books in the library were completely destroyed... the football team is really upset by the fire; they hadn't colored in two of the books yet!
4. What's the only sign of intelligent life in Ann Arbor ? Columbus : 187 Miles
5. What does the average University of Michigan student get on his SAT? Drool
6. How do you get a Michigan Graduate off your front porch? Pay him for the pizza
7. Four college Alumni were climbing a mountain one day: An OSU grad, a Michigan grad, a Penn State grad, and a Notre Dame grad. Each proclaimed to be the most loyal fan of their alma mater. As they climbed higher, they argued as to which of them was the most loyal of all. They continued to argue all the way to the top when the Notre Dame grad hurled himself off the mountainside shouting, "This is for the fighting Irish!" Not wanting to be out done, the Penn State grad threw himself off the mountain proclaiming, "This is for the Nittany Lions!" Seeing this, the OSU grad walked over and shouted, "This is for the Buckeyes!" and pushed the Michigan grad off the mountain .
8. What did the Michigan grad say to the OSU grad? "Welcome to McDonalds. May I take your order please?"
9. A young man hired by a supermarket reported for his first day of work. The manager greeted him with a warm handshake and a smile, gave him a broom and said, "Your first job will be to sweep the store." "But, I'm a Michigan graduate," the young man replied indignantly, "I even played football there!" "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that," said the manager. "Here, give me the broom, I better show you how."
10. Two Michigan football players were hootin' and hollerin' while partying on campus when a bartender asked them why they were celebrating. The smart one said proudly that they had just finished a jigsaw puzzle and it only took them two months. "Two months?!" exclaimed the bartender. The Wolverine proudly replied, "Yeah, the box said 4 - 6 years!"
11. A Wolverine football player was almost killed today in a tragic horseback riding accident. He fell from the horse and was nearly trampled to death. Luckily, the manager of the Wal-Mart came out and unplugged the horse just in time.
12. A little boy and his mother were walking through a Michigan cemetery, when they came upon a headstone that read: "Here lies a Michigan graduate and a good man." The little boy asked his mother, "Mommy, why did they bury two people in there?"
13. Coaches Jim Tressel and Lloyd Carr are walking down the beach talking about the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan . As they are walking, Lloyd trips over something in the sand. Upon closer inspection it turns out to be a genie's lamp. "Who disturbs me?" asked the genie. Jim and Lloyd both say they did. "You will each get one wish," said the genie. Lloyd offers to go first. "I want an impenetrable wall built around the entire state of Michigan so that none of those stupid Ohioans can ever get in. I want it as far down into the ground as it is high, and I want it to be completely sealed in so that we can finally have our peace!" The genie grants the wish to Lloyd and his is instantly whisked away to his new paradise. The genie now tells Jim he'll grant him one wish. Jim says, "Fill it up with water."
14. Why is ice no longer available at Michigan football games? Because the senior who knew the recipe finally graduated.
15. What are the three longest years of a Michigan football player's life? His freshman year.

G O B U C K S !!!!!

Could still meet the Wolverines in January, but I hope not. Not that they are not worthy, but you know, been there, done that, let's see who else wants to dance!

pan6467 11-19-2006 07:03 PM

Wow, from about 3PM - 9 this state was pretty much closed (except for the bars). My son and I stopped at BW3's to pick up 2 dozen blazin, 2 dozen parm garlic and the sea of red in tha place was unbelievable. They had to have a line where no one could enter until someone left. So given their dining area max occ. is 150, they had to have had 200+ people there (outside, by the counter waiting for carry out).

Get to the party and watch Michigan drive it down with no problems.... thought "ok this game is going to suck".......

Yeah right, this was by far the most exciting football game I have watched.... welll.... since OSU took the Championship from Miami in Jan of '03.

I don't care who they play in Jan. in Phx. it can't possibly be more exciting.

(PS..... OCT 21 I talked about how OSU and Michigan could play twice..... this week everyone was talking about it..... lol.... and people thought I was nuts when I talked about it in Oct. People said it would never, could never happen.... It can..... probably not, USC has to lose and I don't see that happening.

ASU2003 11-19-2006 08:03 PM

That game was great, and I have the pictures from down on the field to prove it. :)
It was a huge sea of red inside the stadium and outside before and after the game. I've never seen anything like it with my own eyes.

I'll get around to posting the pictures sometime this week.

grumpyolddude 11-19-2006 08:29 PM

Congrats to OSU. Hell of a game.
The national championship should feature either USC, or the winner of Florida/Arkansas... not Michigan or Notre Dame. (my humble opinion)

highthief 11-20-2006 04:40 AM

I'd like USC.

You'd like roi see OSU give Michigan a thumping every year, but this year, I think the game was perfect, many have stated this was the National Championship right there, and it was played as such.

Had either team blown out the other it wouldn't have lived up to the hype, as it was played..... the game was every bit as tense and great as an OSU/Mich. game should be.

As for who to play...... I'd prefer Notre Dame, then Fla and finally USC if we can't get Michigan again. I think only Michigan will offer a close game. OSU will blow everyone else away.

Glory's Sun 11-20-2006 11:14 AM

This is why the BCS sucks. Michigan is clearly the number 2 team in the nation but they won't get to fight OSU for the title. The OSU/Michigan game was a classic. OSU would kill USC or FLA. I haven't looked at the latest BCS standings yet but I know that USC was a whole point behind Michigan going into the Cal game. I'm sorry, but OSU and Michigan 2 would be the best offering for a title game.

The only drawback to a rematch would be that the game would lose some of it's luster just because it's a rematch.

I'd still like a playoff system set up with the top 6 teams and any undefeated.

goddfather40 11-22-2006 07:22 PM

It's unfortunate that Michigan's "title" game was against OSU during the season, but tough. They had their chance against the Buckeyes, it's someone else's turn in the National Title Game. USC will get their chance if they win out and deservedly so. Wins over BCS ranked Arkansas, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Cal would be better quality wins than Michigan over Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and 25th ranked Penn State.

Either way, OSU is the overwhelming favorite. Who knows though, everyone was giving USC the title last year before the Rose Bowl (including me) and you saw what happened.

goddfather40 12-02-2006 05:16 PM

Yeah....like I said....Michigan belongs in the title game :)

ASU2003 12-03-2006 08:36 AM

Another OSU vs. U of M game would be good, but if U of M wins this time, you still don't get a clear winner since both would have won one game.

Here are two pictures from the game:

Any clue who is gonna play OSU for the big game yet?

pan6467 12-03-2006 04:12 PM

Thanks for the pics man...... just looking at the sea of Scarlet and how close you were makes me jealous.

Did you stop by High St. that night? I know they tore down a lot of the bars that made it famous but I'm sure it still has a few left and they were jammed.

shoegirl 12-03-2006 04:39 PM

Looks like it may be Florida, after all. I prefer it that way, let's beat someone we haven't already played this year! :) Guess we'll know for sure in about 20 minutes...

DDDDave 12-03-2006 08:05 PM

OK, Buckeye fans.... I just got back from the SEC Championship in the ATL and am here to report that you guys are going to have your hands full. I am picking the Gators.... but that's mainly because I've been a fan for 30 years.

I'll add some pics from my seats later. No need in too much smack talk yet cause we've got another month until the game.

highthief 12-04-2006 07:13 AM

I'm glad it's Florida rather than Michigan - for the simple reason that no No 1 team has had to beat 3 No 2 teams in a season to win it all. That will be a great achievement which would not be possible if we had to play Michigan again.

Glory's Sun 12-04-2006 09:44 AM

I wish they'd put in a playoff system. I'm so sick of the BCS. I'm not a Michigan fan by any means but they are IMO the 2nd best team in the nation. Sure I understand the point how they lost the Big Ten title yada yada yada...

Florida will put up a decent fight but I don't think it would be as big and fun game to watch as a rematch of OSU and Michigan.

pan6467 12-04-2006 06:30 PM

I'm sorry but as a true Buckeye fan, I personally feel that watching OSU beat Michigan 2 times in 1 year would be a sports wet dream come true.

That would be like the Browns and Bengals sweeping Pittsburgh, the Indians sweeping a season against the Chisux or the Yankees, the Reds crushing the Cubs or Cards all season.

Those are all things that are possible in another reality but you'll never live to see them...... OSU spanking Michigan twice and once for the National Championship......

Good part is Fla. doesn't stand a chance.

Bad part is Michigan fans will be crying for years over how they were screwed..... actually, that's a plus...... Michigan Whiners... has a pretty sound to it.

Lady Sage 12-05-2006 02:32 AM

I am for a playoff system as well. Soon as finals are over they should hit the road and play their butts off.

Glory's Sun 12-05-2006 06:53 AM

I'm curious to what the vote would have been if Michigan would have played later in the season. I'm still boggled by the huge vote turnaround but can't help but think it was out of sight, out of mind in the case of Michigan.

I'm also boggled by the fact that the OSU coach didn't vote. Sure his vote may not have been the deciding factor, but he voted every other time and on the one vote that he knew would be seen by the public.. he cops out. I fully believe he would rather not play Michigan again, because Michigan has the best chance of beating OSU. I think if a rematch were played, Michigan would come out on top.

Michigan got screwed. It's not their fault the dumb ass conference they are in doesn't have a championship game. That would be a good place for the conference to start. Set up a championship game.

The BCS is a good concept, but it will never work and never has. Did Florida earn the right to play in the championship? Sure, but so did Michigan. I guess this proves that whining and campaining can put you into the right bowl game. Urban Meyer supposedly hates the BCS system yet there he was whining about how Florida was overlooked and blah blah and voila.. he's in the championship.

God I hate Florida.

BTW, in case any of you wonder where my alliance stands.. it's with FSU. So I'm not biased in what I feel about this outcome.

What exactly was Tressel supposed to do? How was he supposed to vote?

If he had voted for Michigan and they got #2, some Buckeye fans would've hated him and considered him a traitor no matter what the reasoning. Plus, then Fla. has locker room inspiration if they get #2.

If he voted Fla. no matter what they got, people all over the country would have said he was scared to face Michigan again and so he chose the weaker team.... or they would have said that he was giving a former OSU coach the nod and staying loyal to Buckeye Alum.... or they would have said he hated Michigan that much... or a combo of any of those and others. And if Michigan had gotten #2, again it would have been locker room fodder.

Tressel was in a no-win situation, unless he did what he did.... not vote, basically telling everyone, "I don't think it's my place to pick who we play."

VERY SMART MAN.

I like what the players say and you know it comes from Tressel......

We're #1, why do we care who is #2...... We don't have to prove anything, #2 has to beat us.

How true, how very, fucking true.

So you're saying that Tressel was a coward? If he wasn't worried so much as the players repeat his words, then it wouldn't be a problem voting for Michigan. He should have just ponied up his balls and voted for who he thought was really #2. Fans be damned. I would think and hope that OSU fans wouldn't be so fickle as to hate their coach who has done a good job with their program just because he voted for a #2 team in the nation.

Obviously his vote didn't matter, so it's a bit of a moot point; but I still think he should have voted.

Then like I keep saying, all this crap can be avoided with a playoff.

I cannot presume nor will I in which choice HE would have made.

I gave you a good line of reasoning, it wasn't fear it was he was damned either way. And why should he name #2, who cares? I wouldn't have voted either. All my vote would do is give the other coach bulletin board material. I just don't see the necessity.

No matter how he voted, the other coach would have used it to psyche his players up. This way, the other coach can't use anything Tressel says, other than "We're #1, #2 has to beat us."

As Tressel says, "Don't ask me to vote anymore and we won't have this issue."

I mean he could have voted for Rutgers.... he could have voted for anyone other than Michigan or Fla..... and it wouldn't have mattered. What Tressel did was acknowledge 2 other programs as having the talent to be #2 and that he doesn't care who comes and gets beaten by us.

Glory's Sun 12-08-2006 05:01 AM

I understand and applaud your defense of the coach. I can see where you are coming from Pan and understand what you mean 100%. However, I still think he should have voted. He voted the rest of the year except for the one time it would be public. That just reeks of insecurity in my eyes. I know it won't in yours but if he's so confident in his team he wouldn't care what the other coach used to psyche his players up. Hell, I'm betting that crybaby Meyer is telling his players that OSU thinks they're too good to vote; that the other teams aren't worth it. A coach is going to use it anyway. So why not just vote for someone and be done with it?

First Big Ten quarterback to win it, and win it convincingly he did!! How could quinn even be considered, the two best teams they played, he looked horrible...

indebut 12-11-2006 04:16 PM

I was very happy to see that McFadden got second over a much overrated Brady Quinn. McFadden was a beast this year and propelled Arkansas to a level that few thought possible. Don't get me wrong on Quinn, I think he is a very good quarterback, but he's definitely not as good as most ND fans would like to think he is.

Sorry... i thought that they were playing on the first... but I have been corrected... so I'm taking the whole week off instead!!!

good call! Anytime the Buckeyes get to play for (and hopefully win) a National Championship, a week-long celebration is in order!

So, after last night, can we all agree Michigan did not deserve an invite to the big dance?

Glory's Sun 01-02-2007 05:44 AM

Michigan looked like crap yesterday. I still think they deserved a shot at the title however. I wonder if the long layoff hurt Michigan or if Pete Carroll is just that good of a coach. It's hard to say but either way Michigan played poorly. It really doesn't matter at this point. The BCS is crap and always will be.

I do have to agree with you here. Sports continues to destroy the traditions that made them, and the fans trust and people still beg for more.

It just didn't seem like New Year's Day. I remember when it was the Cotton, Rose, Sugar and Orange. All on the 1st, all big and all truly meant something.

Yes, the championship meant something but, the rivalries were everything. Michigan-ND, UCLA-USC, Bama-Georgia, Texas-Oklahoma and of course OSU and Michigan.

It's all about money now........how sad.

But here's a question I love to ask...... OSU makes millions upon millions from the football team, why do they have to raise tuition every year?

byesman 01-04-2007 07:56 AM

pan, the football program, in fact, the entire athletic department at OSU is self supporting. In fact, they give money to the University. The football program pretty much supports the largest athletic department in the country with 275 endowed scholarships, 900 scholarship athletes, and 300 full time and 1600 part time employees.

I know that, but it still doesn't explain why tuitions must increase yearly. In fact with the football team giving the Univ. so much (17 Mill, 10 Mill for aid), it would be an argument for tuition at the least to stay steady and financial aid to be easier to achieve. Neither happens. Tuitions rise every year and aid is not all that easy to get. So where does the money go?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Buckeyes and OSU and all, but I really think not just OSU but ALL major colleges that make big money need to show exactly where that money goes. After all, IT is still college, not the pros and education IS supposed to be the most important reason for these programs.

Lady Sage 01-07-2007 01:14 PM

Tomorrow is the big day!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone have their signs painted and their sweatshirts ready?

Dont forget the pizza and the chips/dip pop and or beer. Toilet paper is a must if you are throwing a party!

DDDDave 01-08-2007 01:03 PM

OK Pan, time for the rooting to begin. :) :)

The GATORS will win this game.

OSU is overconfident and feels like they can just show up. I know, I know the Walnuts say 'We respect them, they are a good team' but they believe they are the chosen ones.

The reason you are currently ranked #1 is because you started the season #1 and didn't lose. You played one of the weaker schedules of all the major schools. The GATORS played THE hardest schedule in all of D-1. They lost to the then third ranked team in the country, on the road, at night, by self-imploding(the punter dropped a snap), and a questionable fumble call. OSU played not just weak teams, but BAD teams. Teams with either no offense, no defense, or both. They only good team they beat they gave up 39 points to and almost lost. And hey, Meeeechigan didn't look so hot a week or so ago. Don't even say Texas, they were not that good and they were starting a freshman QB playing his 2nd game.

I think on paper, the teams are even. Both have great senior athletes. Both with senior QB's(always a big factor in college football). Chris Leak did start for four years and Smith for 2 years but whose counting. Both teams have good offenses, defenses, and special teams. There will be mistakes and bonehead plays by both teams (always happens, they are 18-20 year old kids). The difference will be who can overcome their mistakes to persevere. I think this is where the GATORS will overcome. They are battle tested. They will not panic. Meyer will not let them.

I know it sounds corny, but the team that plays the best and keeps their poise will win this game and that will be the GATORS.

Gooooooo GATORS
